@Tyranexx Well it’d be weird to have no explanation as to why I’d disappear for a few weeks or months so it may as well be explained. Everything’s just starting to ramp up now so it’s going to be interesting, if not painful, to see if I can maintain any semblance of my normal life from now. Seems we’ll both have to take time off for life’s calling, enjoy this month whole you can. Mayonnaise is the typical thing that I have absolutely no idea why people like. Luckily I haven’t been stupid enough to try it by itself, but I hope I don’t see, smell or taste that vile substance for a very long time.
I’ve been next to plane wings before and it kinda ruins the whole experience, because you can’t look down at anything anymore. Which is a shame because most times I’d find I enjoy that more than watching a movie, especially if the sky’s cloudless or if we’re flying at low altitude. Though not having the option of movies is boring too. I think now things like sanitiser… surely have to have been allowed because of how dangerous it is to travel without it at the moment.
My thanks for the feedback! At the moment I’m taking a small break, simply because of how much I’ve written over the last few weeks, but it’s been fun so far. I do feel like after Xord, the entire Satorl Marsh plotline was rushed by me, but there isn’t much to change it honestly. Dialogue delivery’s also something that can improve in time; I found I was using a lot of things like; “Shulk said”, or any bank of words in place of it, like “exclaimed,” “spluttered,” or “shouted”.
I think the way I’ve thought it out is that most of the story takes place from Shulk’s perspective, but there’ll be times when Shulk isn’t there, so I switch viewpoints. And all said and done… I don’t remember that scene with Shulk and Fiora standing out to me that much, it felt like a scene I did adequately, giving the right words proper weight and so on. My writing was rusty at the start so… I dunno, I’d like to think it gets better as it goes on. So far I’ve gotten to the first visit to the Bionis’ Interior, so it’ll be time to introduce Melia soon; that’ll be something that’s going to challenge me hard. Thanks for the time as always.
Yeah, photo modes are amazing. Especially on consoles that have the horsepower necessary to take good photos. Ghost of Tsushima… I have absolutely no idea how a game that good looking existed on PS4. Near the end of the generation, for any video game console, really, developers’ll always stretch the limit of what’s possible on it. I had absolutely no idea the Wii U could run a game as technically impressive as Xenoblade Chronicles X, a game with a 400 sq km open world with only one loading zone (into the BLADE Barracks), or even Breath of the Wild, a game with none that’s similar size. Soon we could see some good stuff on Switch but I imagine that time’s yet to come. PS4 on the other had… some incredible stuff come out near the end of its lifespan, or… commercial viability (since who’d get a PS4 over a PS5 if they had the choice?), with GoT, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Death Stranding (with some of the most photorealistic humans I’ve ever seen) and more.
I’ve heard of deerflies but not in as much detail. The flies that love blood are the most annoying since they’ll latch onto your skin. Most flies would react quickly and fly away but these bloodsuckers… they’re awful, latching onto skin and just not… letting… go! It’s like a bee sting, how their sting could kill them in turn because the stinger’s connected to their innards.
I’ve had to delete so many games in the last few months, it’s not funny anymore. Including games I had literally installed only a few days ago too. I’ve had to delete Metal Gear Solid V, and No Man’s Sky… twice each in the last three weeks just so I could download one more game. Which doesn’t suit my “polyamory”regarding video games at all, I like switching between a few of them every now and then. Sony’s taken a fair few missteps when it comes to their PS4-5 leap, and the whole “get a new copy of the game downloaded” feels logical but lazy. They could just release a patch, or an update for the game running on PS5, and add detailed haptic feedback, load times, new textures and whatever instead of wasting the energy of getting the game physically.
Be proud you got those references; it shows you’re a closeted PlayStation fan too. Now I have so many images up I can more or less use them in all kinds of different ways. I don’t think I’ll have the energy or time for a gaming blog; but a scrapbook’s more like it, especially because it’s already been going on. Whether it’s a feudal Japanese island, a steampunk city, outer space, or just plain ‘ol Manhattan I’m sure I’ve seen it all by now.
@TheJGG I want to go ride the paved pumptrack, but I don't want to deal with the 50 minute drive. It's 35 miles away (56 km).
Watched a bit of F1 practice yesterday, saw the banked turn on the netherlands course (I read they have two banked turns). I didn't watch long enough to see anything else interesting.
If I game this weekend, I'll work on my improving my Rocket League skills to get back to diamond rank. Mainly I want to unlock diamond tournament rewards. Every time skills improve, though, it makes the game so fun.
Lost enthusiasm for Skyward Sword after getting the first sword flame and the clawshot (40 hours of playtime). Haven't touched it in a week.
Hadn't played Luigi's Mansion 3 in a year+. Story is maybe 80% complete. Completed floor 11. Floor 12 is next.
@Link-Hero I tried it for the first time in high school and actually liked it. Before that, I'd heard all sorts of stories (as you might expect with that age group) and was expecting to hate it. I might try to track a can down next time I go grocery shopping just for the heck of it.
@MarioLover92 Don't you worry, you have plenty of ground to cover in the game yet.
On Club Nintendo: Ah, I've heard of that figurine! Quite an impressive one to look at. Glad you managed to nab that one! I kind of wished I'd been able to get my hands on some of the playing cards at least. Maybe now that My Nintendo is offering physical rewards, they'll rotate those in...eventually? While I'm glad My Nintendo even has physical rewards now, the few I've been interested in getting tend to sell out almost immediately. That, or I don't want something badly enough to pay shipping costs. XD
@Anti-Matter Ah, so spam alternatives do exist. That mixed with eggs and tomatoes sounds like a good breakfast combo...or fit for any point of the day really.
Good for you on picking up more games you'll like. I really enjoyed Super Mario Galaxy 2, though personally I prefer the first game. In a way it's a rehash of the first game, and I'm not fond of the Yoshi sections at all. I believe it was disclosed in an interview a few years ago that SMG2 was born from left out concepts the team wanted to add to the first game, but they decided to create a sequel with them instead. Nowadays, SMG2 would most likely have been DLC.
I hope you get Megaman Network Transmission! I love the Battle Network series, though I've heard that particular game is more like the main series Mega Man titles.
@Losermagnet I can relate on carpenter bees, though thankfully (at least in my experience) they aren't very aggressive. Just very, very damaging. I grew up in a log cabin and they just loved to chew holes into the beams for their nests. I don't mind most stinging insects generally, though I'll take bees any day over wasps/hornets since the latter don't have to worry about dying when stinging. I've had a couple of foul experiences.
@BruceCM I'm aware that isn't his true name, but the game does a good job of making the player dislike the character. I've been trying to buy games slower than I play them, and that has been working with some success. However, I also seem to have less time for them these days....
@ogo79 I've only ever had it straight out of a can, but I'm morbidly curious enough that I want to try using it in a couple of different ways now lol.
Currently playing: Pokemon Scarlet DLC, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (Switch)
@Link-Hero From what I understand, how affordable spam was during the WWII years made it pretty popular worldwide, though apparently the British became tired of it at one point. Hence the famous Monty Python sketch. Seems as though it has been incorporated in plenty of cuisines.
@TheJGG Believe me, the explanation is appreciated. Speaking of, I'll be on a short trip to an out-of-state wedding next weekend, so I doubt I'll be able to thread long replies in that time frame. I'll announce my own extended leave when the time comes. I'll likely still browse the site for news, but comments (if any) from yours truly will be fleeting. Honestly, it's surprising (well, at least to some) what I can stomach, but copious amounts of mayo? Hard pass.
I'll take natural/environmental visuals any day over what's in photos or on a screen, even on a plane. Sitting by the wing still exposes one to interesting cloud formations (and other passenger planes sharing the sky with you), but the view is much better when you can see the ground. That said, I do agree that in-flight entertainment options are still welcome...especially at night when the craft isn't close to the ground. I usually take along a book or a small handheld, like my DS Lite. I haven't really traveled since I got my Switch, and even then I'm not comfortable taking it through busy thoroughfares right now.
No argument from me if you want to take a break from the Xenoblade piece; we don't want you experiencing burnout after all. I'd focus mostly on hammering out this first draft, then going back through and doing more editing. To be honest, the Satorl Marsh section in the game also dragged a bit for me, though it's a very beautiful area at night. Though not quite as striking as Noctilum in XCX in my humble opinion.
Makes sense to tell the story mostly from Shulk's perspective, then switch points of view when needed; he is the main focus of the whole game, after all. I thought the Shulk/Fiora scene really helps with character building, and to be honest I'd already forgotten the quip about Shulk supposedly having "no taste". XD Practice makes perfect! Truth be told, I think my writing has suffered a little over the years since I don't write nearly as much as I used to in college...though some of that was out of necessity for papers. Almost to the Bionis's Interior then? Looking forward to Melia's introduction.
I admittedly don't take advantage of photo modes as much as I ought to; Dragon Quest VIII on the 3DS, for example, added a way to take photos and get in-game rewards for them. From what I've seen of Ghosts of Tsushima, the game looks visually stunning and is, I'm sure, one I'd enjoy playing. IMO I think it deserved more GotY awards over some other contenders, though I do admit those impressions are secondhand. I didn't download all the performance patches for XCX other than the critical one (because space), but I was blown away with how vast its world was. Breath of the Wild left a similar impression. Speaking of, I still need to revisit it for the DLC.
The worst part about deer flies is that, though you definitely feel the bite, the itchy welt they leave behind is, in my opinion, more itchy than a mosquito bite. At least bees have to be more careful about their stings. As mentioned a few posts ago in the thread, I'll take a bee encounter any day over a wasp or hornet. I should mention I'm not afraid of bugs or insects, but I certainly try to respect their space and avoid getting stung, bit, or stabbed.
My sympathies; I dislike deleting games like that and usually don't have to unless it's a game I've decided I don't care to play again. Most of my collection is still physical, but I've found myself making an exception here and there on the Switch. For example, when I decide to grab it, I want to get Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury digital. It's perfect for pick-up-and-play sessions, plus it isn't a massive space hog. I agree with you on Sony's PS4 to PS5 shenanigans, but I'm sure their accounting department, investors, and execs are all very happy with the approach.
I'm not sure if I'd call myself a closeted Playstation fan, though I've definitely been interested in the machines for awhile. XD I'd settle for a digital gaming scrapbook, partially since you've already started down that path. Who needs to travel the world in Microsoft Flight Simulator when you have access to photo modes that allow for time, space, and dimensional travel?
@Tyranexx Yeah, I wanted to get the My Nintendo gold and silver pins, but I was torn on getting that or the Cat Mario keychain. I ended up getting the latter, since I only had 800 platinum coins and I thought it would be sold out quicker. Turns out the pins sold out first...and their catalog doesn't have the pins anymore. Ah well. lol
Adding to part of your reply to TheJGG, yeah a vast majority of my games are physical, though I have plenty of digital games too. Last year I ended up getting the digital version of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Mainly because I wanted to check up on my island and play with my Nintendo Life friends without swapping games. (My brother visited my island at one time too.)
Have a safe and fun trip in advance - I know it's not right now but I wanted to wish you all the best anyway.
"Give yourself the gift of being joyfully you."
Favorite game: Super Mario 3D World
AKA MarioVillager92. Ask if you want to be Switch friends with me, but I want to get to know you first. Thanks! ❤️

@Tyranexx
I just wonder why don't Megaman Star Force get same popularity as Battle Network in both anime and games ?
I found the NDS games of Star Force were expensive even on Japanese version and the USA / PAL version like nowhere to be founded (if there are, they have insane prices). Tough luck if you still able to find Star Force 2 & 3 English version from Ebay (and with insane prices for 2D games).
But, luckily I found one seller from Tokopedia have 1 Star Force Pegasus NDS Japanese version with affordable price.
I will get that game once I have right time to pick.
Reading Japanese texts for RPG games kinda difficult but I believe I can play the game by following the walkthrough video from YouTube.
BTW, I saw the gameplay of Battle Network (GBA and NDS) looks very similar as Star Force (using 3D scene during Battle).
I still didn't really understand the gameplay rules like which card should I pick and how did I attack the enemies and did I need some timing in execution ?
I saw Capcom tried to be like Pokemon style with their Megaman Battle Network and Star Force by release their games in 2 / 3 different version during GBA until NDS era. I dunno if Capcom's only release those games in limited quantity and made the copies on Ebay get insane price tag for it's rarity. I was very late to consider Megaman Battle Network / Star Force when finally I have some curiosity with those games. And take a note, I didn't even grew up by Megaman franchises, I knew there was a different version of Megaman games but at that time I didn't really pay attention. As I grew up become adult and have a chance to buy original games, it was too late for me to get into those games as retro games getting more expensive by years, so the only one legal way I can do by find either Megaman Battle Network / Star Force Japanese version with affordable price. I have dealt with some Japanese NDS games so I have to able and get into the Japanese version of Megaman NDS games I can pick.
Also, I just wondered why does the Pokemon fans don't want some radical changes in Pokemon games ?
I mean, if the next Pokemon games have different battle style maybe like Yokai Watch 4 or FF X-2 with different ATB bar depend on the speed or like Gambit system FF XII, for me it's nothing wrong with that as 1 vs 1 battle looked tedious and archaic from my opinion than 3 vs 3 that most RPG games adopted this battle system. Also, the next Pokemon games need some completely different storyline structure by removing the gym leader, rival, professor, team villain, etc as for me it was very scripted for an adventure to become Pokemon trainer. Make some drastic changes by make the trainer as amnesiac guy who have no idea about their identity after got struck by accident but have to save Pokemon from real evildoers that made him lost their memories or make a feud between two different country about Pokemon and something and you have to stop the feud or make a young kid from real world suddenly got teleportated to parallel universe (Pokemon world) and have to find a way to return to their place while at the same time they befriended with the Pokemons and stop the evil things happened over there and their real world.
Put some different story line structure without living with Mom, meet the professor, meet the gym leader, meet the team villain, meet the Legendaries and I might get interested more with new Pokemon games. What do you think about my ideas ?
@WoomyNNYes Saw qualifying, plus F3, that track is absolutely nuts. Best part is that there are different lines for turn 1 and turn 3, so that'll help the start tomorrow. Quali was also great, both Williams ruined their chances of a top ten start when both of them crashed within minutes of each other. Shame you've lost enthusiasm for Skyward Sword though; the Clawshot's my favourite item, so at that point I thought to myself: "this is where the fun begins!" And... LM3, more or less the same. Saving that one for a rainy day.
As for me, I bought F1 2021 and in the space of one night, a day and a morning (so two days) I've already put 15 hours into it. I was gobsmacked when I saw that stat, it's almost embarrassing... but it's so fun, with a great "My Team" mode, plus a story for those into it. In racing games I love starting from the back and fighting my way through the field, there's something great about pulling off good moves. Plus the "push-to-pass" ERS overtake button's been so fun to use. Didn't even play anything else the whole weekend.
@MarioLover92 Saw that the other day, is it one of the disciples you're facing? I'm almost an expert on that game (except superbosses lol) but I can't remember any bosses with spike damage... either way have fun with it, that game is, as you likely already know, an absolute masterpiece!
@Losermagnet Wow... that's one hell of a statue. A whole foot you say?! Now that's a proper collecting hobby! Hopefully soon you'll ask @Zuljaras for a... monster statue? Pun aside that's a challenge for ya!
