@TheJGG Well I have a PC and Steam so I've definitely played more games than just the ones Nintendo made. It's not that I'm totally Nintendo only, lol. I've had my gaming laptop since 2017, the same year I got my Switch. If things go according to plan, I'd have a PS5 by this year's holiday season.

Edit: I will definitely admit this though. Before the Switch came out, I stuck with my 3DS and Wii U, in terms of then-current games.

@TheJGG
Hi.
Sorry if i was upset last week.
Let's forget the crap things last time.
About Cloud FF VII design, i think Tetsuya Nomura have interest with Visual Kei singer looking. Long hair, Emo looking, something that not really appealing for some Western peoples.

Yeesh. I've been VERY busy over the past couple of days, both work-wise and in my personal life. Thankfully I should have more downtime (and gaming time) tomorrow.

@MarioLover92 Wolves > birds any day in my book. Plus, Gregar's appearance reminds me a LOT of Gospel (the bug beast) from MMBN2. It's hard to go wrong with any of the Link Navis in MMBN6, particularly since those fusions alone (ignoring others) don't have a timer.

Metroid Prime Trilogy was probably one of the best digital investments I've ever made. I would've loved a physical copy of the collection, but...more sky-high prices there, at least at the time lol. I played all three games over the course of several months (with some breaks) and enjoyed them immensely. I was really apprehensive at first due to the FPS elements - I'm not into shooters - but it really is the Metroid series I love - just in 3D.

I think the PS5 will be an inevitable future investment. "When" is the question now. XD

@Minako First of all, welcome to Nintendo Life! I see your account is relatively recent.

As others have mentioned, many of us grew up playing video games and still do. I'm a female who will turn 30 later this year. I have a full-time job in IT, own and maintain my own house, have family and friends I like spending time with, and various other responsibilities. I (usually) also find time to shove in my primary hobbies of gaming and reading. Trust me, I've put up with the "girls don't play video games" stigma too, mainly from other ladies. Only stop playing video games if YOU want to.

@TheJGG I've heard that XC2's story isn't as dramatic in some respects and can take a bit to get going. From what I've heard so far, I also prefer XC1's music but definitely appreciate some of the tracks found in XC2. I did notice that the main XC was more fantasy-based, whereas XCX definitely had sci-fi vibes throughout. Especially after a certain plot twist I was blindsided by earlier in the story of the latter.

XCX was my first foray into anything Xeno. I certainly enjoyed it, though it definitely emphasized exploring Mira and getting to know its inhabitants over its plot. This is by no means a negative; at the time, it was the closest thing to a true open-world game I'd ever played. Some of the side quests were really well done and tackled some heavy themes. Not to mention that pummeling giant monsters that used to literally walk all over you while piloting a Gundam giant mech is SO satisfying. There were a few things that bothered me about the game, sure, but by far the worst was the cliffhanger it ended on.

"attack ON titan" certainly radiates Sawano's style! I love how epic the piece feels. All the different instruments and sound bits merging together to create some nice ear candy! With the singer, I'm getting some slight XCX soundtrack vibes.

A "wish lift" huh? XCX is certainly a decent candidate. While I don't think I'd double-dip for it anytime soon, the game's begging for a larger audience. Especially with the increased exposure the series is now getting between XC:DE's release and Pyra/Mythra's recent inclusion in Smash Ultimate. As for Metroid Prime Trilogy, I'm fairly sure that collection will move over. Not only has it been rumored to be waiting in the wings for years, but I could see it used to build up hype for Metroid Prime 4 whenever that finally materializes again. I would double-dip for MPT.

I'll be honest, I wasn't fond of the PS5's design first. It has grown on me, though I'd prefer to wait for the inevitable "slim" version when that shows up. The entertainment center I have isn't really built for something like that in mind. I'd rather not set it on the floor though lol. Backwards compatibility alone would sell it to me, but I'd certainly prefer more system exclusives before I'd swing for it. That's how I operate with pretty much any console, however, including the Switch. Though it surpassed my "Yeah, I'm gonna buy it" threshold some time ago. XD

40 degrees Celsius? Good grief, that's hot. It can reach temps that high here when you factor in the heat index and humidity, but that usually only happens in the dog days of summer and is thankfully rare. I'd kind of like to experience dry heat sometime as I've never really been or lived anywhere where it would be significant. Wet heat, on the other hand...bleh. The worst summer days I can think of involve stepping outside out of an air-conditioned building and feeling like I couldn't breathe due to how hot and humid it was.

Wonderful pictures from the track walk! Very clear, too; that phone camera is certainly pulling its weight! Man, it was still that warm that late in the day?

Well video game sexualisation has taken a fascinating turn. I learned that NieR: Replicant has a new trophy much like the one you get in Automata when looking up 2B's skirt ten times. This time you do it to another character, Kainé, who is intersex, a "male heroine" if you will, as described by... Yoko Taro. If you do so ten times she'll kill you, you'll get a Game Over and you'll get the trophy.

That kind of objectification is questionable at best and just awful at worst. Of course it begs the question why is there controversy about this now and not... back when the original released? Having said that it IS Kotaku we're talking about. But that doesn't change my view; that it's borderline incorrect.

@Tyranexx It's more about my age then the the fact I'm a girl, I'm 16 she thinks that I should of grown out of them by now. It was her who got me into gaming in the first place with a DS many years ago. I'm sure she going to have a rant at my younger brother sometime soon, he's going to be 16 in the winter.

Hmm... fair enough @Minako, that’s as good a reason as any. In response to your response to @Tyranexx, at this point at sixteen you’re still exploring your interests, so shutting out video games is far from an ideal thing. Now I’m managing to explore gaming even more, going beyond just Nintendo games.

Besides with video games, they’re not a fad. They’re a part of culture as a whole, so growing out of it is very much easier said than done!

@TheJGG Shutting down gaming is like shutting down reading books or watching movies.

I treat gaming just like reading and watching movies. The only difference is that gaming is more interactive than the other two.

I can even argue that gaming helped more kids in learning English than any of the modern study books

ThanosReXXX

@Minako @TheJGG What's this nonsense I hear of supposedly being expected to grow out of gaming after your 16th birthday?

I immediately wonder how certain people would look at me, then...

'The console wars are like boobs: Sony and Microsoft fight over which ones look the nicest and Nintendo's are the most fun to play with.'

As someone who's been playing video games since being a kid, I still enjoy playing them. Never understood why someone needs to "outgrow" something they like, then again, I play games and enjoy the things I like because they're things I enjoy.

Outside gaming, I love cartoons and animated movies. If I "outgrew" them, I don't think I would be watching various Disney movies, or enjoying my favorite movie series Trolls.

Hope you can continue enjoying games @Minako, I agree with the response @TheJGG gave.

The resident Trolls superfan! Saw Trolls Band Together via early access and absolutely loved it!

@Minako Ah yes, the "They'll grow out of it" hypothesis. Some people technically do due to shifting interests and/or additional responsibilities, or they just don't have the time; the latter example applies to a coworker of mine now that he's a dad. Others fit it in as a hobby like yours truly. True, there are some tradeoffs; I barely watch any TV, for example, and unfortunately I don't have as much time to game as I used to. But gaming as a hobby is perfectly fine as long as one balances it with other life aspects (School, work, social obligations, personal responsibilities, etc.).

Gaming is just another form of entertainment, one that's more interactive. The average gamer age is 35, which makes both you and I youngsters when compared to the overall population. As @TheJGG mentioned, you're still exploring your interests. Again, only stop gaming if YOU want to.

Hello. 😀
A newbie here.
I am 36 years old man, still single and keep pursuing gaming hobby.
Don't listen to peoples who think gaming hobby is a childish hobby.
They are probably jealous to see other peoples enjoy gaming hobby.
Keep on going with your gaming hobby.

@Minako Wow, at 16 already? If you legit still enjoy video games as entertainment, I'd say keep at it. Nothing wrong with that...I'm 29 years old and I've been into gaming ever since I was like 4 or 5. When I was a kid, my parents didn't like me playing M-rated games (obviously, I can play them now), but that's about it. But yeah, I do agree with Tyranexx on this - like other forms of entertainment (such as movies and television), if you balance it out with responsibilities like school and work, you're golden.

@Tyranexx Yeah it would have been cool to have a physical copy of MPT, but I'm more than okay with having spent $10 on the digital copy from the eShop. I didn't get into Metroid games that much when I first played them, I easily got lost in them, lol. Metroid Prime 1 was no exception, when I rented it years ago. Now, I can totally get into them, and I went on to finish Super Metroid, Metroid: Zero Mission, and Metroid: Samus Returns. I got really far in MP1, and I did beat the original NES Metroid, but with save states on the NES Classic.

So time for a long overdue life update that @ThanosReXXX will no doubt find typically amusing. I meant to get back to this anyway since he likes hearing about my job and how bad it is!

So let's start with the good: my partner and I have been together now for almost 1 year. Woo. Through a pandemic so I have barely seen her. Boo.

Oh, and my store manager has been promoted to area manager for the company I work for! Woo!

Now the bad.

We have a new manager, from another store. He has changed everyone's hours, completely ripped apart our warehouse standards and decided we need to gut it all and basically rebuild the place after finally finding something that works.

He has stripped myself of the trusted autonomy I had with my former boss to order stock as needed and implement ideas. He is now micromanaging every aspect of the store. He doesnt acknowledge his staff existing, unless they are management.

Now my little store layout team is now three strong. Our former deputy manager has joined us. This is good. A strong team to...wait, today I find out the two of us who have been doing this the longest (And who do the most hours) are now just working stock. That's it. The position I have held for 19 months now doesnt exist.

Did I get consulted? No. Do I get a say? No. He wants management to deal with all the regular changes and seasonal things. I and my colleague just work stock, now strictly in designated areas.

Our former deputy manager, who is very part time, now deals with all the small things we would have dealt with, but now on her own.

And to top this all off, my previous boss before he left said I was next in line for an upcoming promotion. Low and behold that position is now available and....the new guy has erased it. It was filled, now it doesnt exist. He doesnt want to train anyone up when another member of management can handle it and their job at the same time.

SO yeah, what an update. From being in line for an imminent promotion to effectively demoted in the span of a week.

@MarioLover92 MPT was one of those cases where I was happy to splash cash on the digital version; my wallet thanked me. XD

I'm a relatively recent Metroid fan; crazily enough, the game that got me into the series was Metroid II: Return of Samus; I obtained it using points from Club Nintendo before it closed and redeemed it off the 3DS VC. I enjoyed it enough that I gave the original Metroid a try too (I did use save states for this one!). The rest is history. To date, I've played and beaten all the main series Metroid releases barring Metroid Prime: Hunters on DS and Metroid Prime: Federation Force on 3DS.

Trust me, Other M is worth it as long as you go in with an open mind. It is flawed and some of the complaints aren't unwarranted, but its negatives are blown way out of proportion IMO.

@Dr_G_Lemaitre @Teksetter Since we were making friendly introductions, I just want to say something that I've heard many times and don't ever forget: I'm not actually a scientist, since I'm without Ph.D., unlike Science Girl (I mean nothing but respect here!). I'm not even actively engaged in acquiring one right now. Nonetheless, no one can deny that I'm a science-type person (LOL, I'm just not getting paid for it); and I feel like that description applies to many curious and perceptive people, including several in these forums. In that sense, Teksetter, I think you and a fair number 'round here belong. (In fact, some people who have the Ph.D., the titles, the official salaries, and all the trappings, are distressingly less curious about the world than many I meet on the "outside"... but that's another story.)

I wonder if I'll live long enough to finally understand the Japanese fascination with mechs and "big dumb objects" (living and otherwise). I mean, I understand that Japan is relatively modest in size, with very big landscape features, and very big geology (with its natural hazards). But I think I'm missing something.

It's interesting that we're talking about Zelda and mechs. (Tiny SPOILERS are OK, right?) I would pay to play that end-game scenario you were talking about, with the mechs merging to take down Ganon. I always thought the Divine Beasts were a literal interpretation of the dungeon maps from the original game. As Zelda Dungeon demonstrates, the dungeon maps form a sort of 8-bit outline of creatures (or the crescent Moon, et cetera, and yes, I know about Level 3), which have simply been animated in BOTW. ... I'm kind afraid of Link's motorbike in this scenario.

So, anyhow, I hope you got my other message, Science Girl. Sorry if I stressed you out!

God, @Haruki_NLI that sounds just awful. Glad for you and your partner but... less than enthused about your work situation. Seems that despite hard work being put in that amounted to nothing and I am sorry. Now you can just set about trying to prove why you deserved that promotion to begin with.

Haruki_NLI

@TheJGG @Snatcher It's fine. Had a friend ask why I was suddenly focused on streaming so much. Yeah this is why. I saw it coming a mile away once I knew who was taking over.

It sucks because we've gone from a very efficient team that had to change a lot to work properly (which was spurred by myself taking it up and it was absolute chaos) to being worse than it initially was.

Don't work in retail folks. It aint worth the minimum wage I'm getting 🤣

It was a lot of hard work. But this is what happens when you get a new manager for a huge store. They want to run it like a small one.

I've been here for over 2.5 years now. Think I'm ready to move on. If my marketing talents are going to be wasted just stacking shelves then I can do better. Already told my previous manager I was either moving up or moving out by the three year mark.

Of course I knew this was coming. He never sticks by what he says, this new guy. Said he would spend a week observing and then working out what to change, and within a day he'd changed most things. Told me to my face that morning it's good me and my team exist. So I knew it was coming, especially when the part time member kept getting huge job lists and the other two of us were left out entirely.

I'd love to say I'm willing to put the effort in and show him I can be promoted, but in removing the available position he has shown he doesn't even want to bother with an external candidate let alone internal.

So that's that. Going to say I want my hours cut down to 32 a week instead of 40, because lord knows I'm only guaranteed 16, and I'm gradually going to transition myself out.

Funny thing is I was offered a 16 hour max job a while ago and refused it due to it paying far less.

Kinda wish I took it anyway.

@Haruki_NLI Ah... @Knuckles-Fajita aka @BLP, long time no see. Rhyme not intended, by the way.

Been meaning to ask how you've been doing, but since you changed your username without me noticing,
I kinda lost sight and I had no idea what your old username was again. Now that you decided to tag me, I was able to do some backtracking and finally put the pieces together.

Good to hear you're still with us. One might never know what with all the crap you had to go through quite a while back, and the current worldwide COVID situation on top of all that probably wasn't a lot of fun either. Anyway, glad you made it through and welcome back to the Chit-Chat thread, mate.

Too bad about the disappearing carrot that used to dangle in front of you, but eh... that's life, I suppose. One door closes, another door or a window will open. Just as long as it's not on an elevated floor, jump through it once it appears...
