@Tyranexx - Ha, that’s funny, I didn’t think PETA had a sense of humor. Everyone knows that they’re wrong though and geese are jerks. It’s okay to take things from geese because they’re always plotting to take things from us. Clearly.

@NintendoByNature - I put limits on myself like that all the time, and then break them when something goes on sale. I think I’m going to hold strong though as I’ve made River City Girls and Fight ‘n Rage my new insta buys when on sale and bumped Mark of the Ninja back a few slots.

@StableInvadeel - Check the menu for a coconut curry if you like coconut. Those curries are loaded with flavor, but typically they don’t carry any spice. Unless a dish is noted as spicy on the menu, you’re typically given a choice of heat level when you order. They typically add the heat to dishes after they’re cooked unless otherwise noted.

@Octane Yes those blocks are about as standard as it gets. Pretty much everyone in Japan uses them. Just drop them in the pot with the veggies, potatoes, meat and cook.

@ThanosReXXX Wasabi is the ONE spicy thing Japanese people like, and I love it too.

@Tyranexx I love spicy food, but mild curry is still delicious. There is no reason to force yourself to eat spicy mixes if it's not your thing. When school lunch serves curry, once a month, it's basically the Japanese version of pizza day in US schools. Even the teachers get excited!

@NotTelevision The bottle I have at home is Tabasco. The stuff at the restaurant was from a different company, but they seem basically the same. Habanero is great though. I even put some in my beef when I make my own hamburgers and tacos.

@NEStalgia Funny you should mention that! I had dinner at a conveyor belt sushi place last night and I put half a packet of wasabi on each individual nigiri! It's delicious! Wasabi is the only spicy food in Japan I've seen that Japanese people like, but even then, most are shocked that I like it and eat so much when I eat it. I'm curious about what you've heard from others about Japan that's so different from what I've talked about? I am in the Kansai region, the Kanto region and other parts of Japan all have their own regional differences. Not unlike the US or even tiny little UK.

@bimmy-lee lol, that sounds like something that might happen. Although I don't know I would trust water that has flavor when it's not supposed to. O.o

@StableInvadeel Enjoy your trip to the restaurant. I went to one years ago as mom had her birthday dinner at one. It actually sparked my interest in Japanese food, to a point of learning to cook some of it.

@NintendoByNature Same here, as mentioned above, eating in a Japanese restaurant sparked my interest.

I had to scoop up Anodyne. At .99, it’s quite hard to say no.

Please tell me how it is.

Interested to hear NotTelevision's opinion as well, but I've played through Anodyne and really enjoyed it. It's got some top-down Zelda vibes, but kind of more mature and trippy. A bit more focused on puzzles over combat, but it has both. Does not really hold your hand, which is both good and bad. The overworld is pretty maze-like, so you'll hit a lot of dead ends and possibly get lost a few times as you trek around, but eventually you'll get your bearings (or you can just use the Internet for help, haha). Definitely not as polished as a Zelda though. I wouldn't call it a must-have or anything, but for a buck, I think it's 100% worth it. I bought it on a previous sale that was not as deep as this one and still felt I got more than my money's worth out of it.

klingki

NintendoByNature

@klingki interesting. There's just so many zelda likes out there, and not to mention, other games to play, that even at a dollar, I sometimes pass games unless they're must haves. If anodyne doesn't really do anything different, or if you have the tendency to get lost, maybe ill hold off. I'm working through quite a few Games atm. The last thing i should do is add another, especially when I just finished playing the real deal Links awakening.

@NintendoByNature Honestly, I played mostly using a guide, and I still got lost a bunch when I strayed to do my own exploring, haha. If you intend to play without a guide, I'm guessing you will have to do quite a bit of wandering. If that's a turn-off for you then yeah, maybe best to hold off for now. I did like exploring the various locations though, but again, I mostly used a guide to help me get through it quicker.

klingki

NintendoByNature

@klingki ehh, I'll prob hold off. I'm doing enough wandering in ori And the blind forest right now lol. Wonder how that shalnor game is? Thats another zelda like on sale.

@NintendoByNature Fair enough, though I did really enjoy the game overall, and I do think it’s worth a shot down the road if you have more time.

Shalnor I haven’t tried, but I read some not-so-great stuff about it online somewhere, can’t remember where.

Stray Pokébabble: Playing Alpha Sapphire and doing a baby run (breed six Pokémon of choice on another file, then raise them from lvl 1 as soon as you unlock trading), reached That One Boss™️ Norman (Petalburg City, fifth badge) expecting him to put up a fight and... completely wiped the floor with him. My Chimecho two-hitted everything and he didn't even get a single hit in. Extra points for the very first turn being both sides using Yawn - talk about contagious.

I still remember my Omega Ruby run where I thought I could be cheap and send out a Ghost Pokémon against him. Boy, did that backfire.

@bimmy-lee Nice comparison that. XD Good question... my first wild guess would be that if it doesn't stick to specific plants for camouflaging it could try to look as if it weren't an animal in the first place though that's a bit of a stretch. It really does stand out; white isn't a typical "don't eat me" colour either. Maybe their spots are for disorienting predators making it look like several smaller bugs instead and thus harder to decide where to strike, especially if it's in motion? White would make for a higher contrast there.

That being said... don't mind if I bookmark this. What a cutie <3 I love its blue spots, they're so pretty!

I don't have a garden of my own but my parents do. They have some fruit trees (apple, pear, sour cherry, sweet cherry), some berry bushes (currant, green and red gooseberry), and a walnut tree. There's a quince tree but I've never been sure if it's ours or public, I only know that my mother always makes quince jelly from its fruit. Other edibles would be strawberries, mangold, courgette, aubergines, broccoli, and tomatoes, sometimes they grow peas, carrots, onions, and potatoes as well though it's been a while. Also some herbs for cooking (mint, chives, parsley, lemon balm iirc, not sure about rosemary, sage and thyme).

Some non-cooking plants I know by name would be roses (baccara as well as some pink + yellow ones), irises, a large summer lilac (attracts butterflies like crazy), sundrops, poppies, red-hot poker, and tulips. There's more but that's what I can definitely name.

... This makes it sound as if they had a huge garden but they don't. XD It's just bits and pieces here and there with a small, designated area for growing vegetables while herbs get to grow in a wheelbarrow save for mint and balm. They also leave one part of the garden alone and let nature grow whatever it likes there which is rather popular with critters. Some keywords being butterfly egg laying spots and "weeds".

What do you grow if you don't mind me asking? I'd grab some popcorn if I could but afaik this emote isn't included over here so this will have to do. I shall declare tea time!

@klingki @NintendoByNature I’ve played enough of Anodyne to say it was well worth the original price of $8-10, so getting it for a cool .99 cents is a real steal. Good design and exploration and a lot of personality. It almost feels like a parody of Zelda/adventure games in the similar way Earthbound/Undertale did with JRPGs. I had a brief encounter with a certain NPC chopping bushes that had me chuckling😄.

Speaking of cheaper games on the e-shop with a retro flair, did either of you play Alwa’s Awakening? I’ve been eyeing that one up for a while and was curious if it is worth a go.

NotTelevision

NintendoByNature

@NotTelevision thanks for the feedback. I played alwas awakening and it was alot of fun. Granted I played it on release last year, but I recall it being pretty tough in some spots. Just a heads up, the movement is rather slow. Combat isn't it's strong suit but more exploration/platforming. I think i played on the easier mode to have hints on where to go. Even with the hints it was still pretty challenging. Sydney Hunter is another one of those retro platformers that I had alot of fun with.

@KarateLuigi - Wow, what a fun variety of fruits and vegetables. You sent me googling with some of those. Some we just don’t/can’t grow around here, and some were plants I know by a different name. Very interesting. For example, I know an aubergine as an eggplant, and in the process of learning that; I learned that an aubergine is not only a fruit, but also a berry by definition! I would have never guessed. I have a patch of wild prickly gooseberry in my yard, but the deer come and eat the leaves before fruit ever grows. I have a small gooseberry bush transplanted indoors under a grow lamp which I prune and hope to get into flower some day.

I don’t have an outdoor garden because my property is heavily wooded. I need to have a bunch of dying ash trees cut down eventually, and I’m hoping to plant a garden in their place some day. I do grow plants and trees indoors though. We have a nice succulent garden, a 4-5” tall red maple in a large planter, and a collection of native baby trees we’re growing for the purpose of bonsai. I have a nice baby black walnut we grew from a nut last spring.

For years now I’ve been trying to get an eastern redbud to grow in the house, but they’re very temperamental and never survive the transition indoors. I found a really nice baby redbud in the park this summer, dug it up, planted it in sand, and gave it a couple months to root outdoors. It’s been inside for a week now and seems to be doing okay. Fingers crossed.

Tea time it is then, I’ll have non caffeinated if possible, it’s still morning here and I have about a pot of coffee in me. Not sure if I should paint the entire house, or get sick.

Edit - Bookmark away! I’d send you the picture if I could, though I can’t decide if sending pictures of moths is the most wholesome use of the internet, or the weirdest possible use? Maybe we should take this conversation to the dark web.

@BruceCM - Haha, we laugh, but there’s probably a moth fetish forum out there somewhere. I imagine one partner is dressed like a lightbulb, the other a moth, and the moth just continuously bumps into the lightbulb. Maybe they have little arguments about who gets to be the moth? At any rate, they can bump away for all I care, whatever flaps people’s wings I say.

Had my first Mario Maker 2 session since they've added online multiplayer with friends now and am thoroughly exhausted. I had to laugh so hard at all those fails that I cried. There's just nothing like co-op platformers. <3

@bimmy-lee The magic of English and its variations being extra educational today. I didn't know aubergines are berries but after seeing some examples of botanical classification versus culinary use nothing surprises me anymore and I've kind of avoided thinking too hard about this. XD It's wild how many "vegetables" are actually berries (or fruit in general) whereas some "berries" aren't - strawberries, for starters, aren't berries but melons are.

Aww, poor gooseberry bush. At least it seems to be delicious. Baby trees just sounds cute, and yeah, have some extra fingers crossed that your redbud will flourish well. Please send it some greetings from me, if it dies shortly after you know whom to blame. :X

... I might have 20+ packs of tea around right now (40+ once I'm done moving house) so caffeine-free won't be an issue. There's several fruit teas, a few herb ones, some mixed, and a few rooibos mixtures. Personal recommendation being rooibos with pineapple, mango, and banana. ... No, I am not a collector. Yes, I am too curious about tea variations. I do enjoy my daily coffee as well but I'm not going as crazy with flavours as I do with tea.

Yay! I'd say it's a good use of the internet. And uh... considering moths are grown it's legal afaik so as long as you aren't posting pictures of caterpillars or cocoons it should be fine. I'd add that cats are overrated but I should probably wait a bit before making an entire community hate me, huh?

Gosh darn, no wonder my internet gets slow after playing Minecraft. The save file is almost 2 GB! Sheesh that's like uploading an entire full hd feature length movie to YouTube!

I'll have to remove that one from the automatic back ups.
