D-Star92

Me and my mom saw Mary Poppins last week. It was the first one to be more precise. This was one of the few live-action Disney films I've seen, and we both really liked it. For a movie that came out in 1964, it has really nice special effects! And in classic Disney fashion, it has some truly memorable songs... I've even had a few songs stuck in my head lately. Great movie.

Oppenheimer (Cinema).

There was a LOT to follow (it regularly jumps between three different perspectives), but this was a darn good movie with some truly great acting (I didn't realize that the admiral trying to get the cabinet position, in the B&W segments, was Robert Downey Jr. until like 1/3rd way through the film).

Some Notes:

  • This was the first time I've been ID'd while going to the cinema (this may be the first R rated film I've seen in theatres). The ticket checker said I didn't look my age, but it's hard to imagine that she really thought I could be under 17 (I'm 32 for goodness sakes, lol). Maybe it's just overall protocol, IDK.
  • This is certainly the first time I've watched a film with nudity on the big screen.
  • Thunderstorms nearly ended the night early. The power in the theatre cut out for like a minute or two. Luckily the screen popped back on quickly and we really didn't miss much. Unfortunately we weren't that lucky back home, as the power was out when we returned and didn't come on until after 3:30 a.m.

PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

I watched Barbie movie just now and.... It was disappointing in my opinion. 🙁
Barbie reboot with political issues conversations ? Not a good idea in my opinion.
I literally confused to digest the storyline structure, it was pretty corny after some thought.
There was a speech that pretty offending for me even didn't literally directed toward audiences, but still...
The good part only when they talked about life lessons.
But overall... It still not a great movie in my opinion.
Will I watch again? No.
How was the score from me? 5 from 10, already got minus 1 point because of horrible Nicki Minaj song.

@WoomyNNYes
I felt regret after watching Barbie 2023 movie.
I literally didn't laugh that much, a lot of dialogues sounds really off for me.
Also, I noticed my body language during watching the movie didn't lie about how was my reaction when I watched something that I didn't even understand where was the fun part.
I pushed my body toward like I want to get closer to listen, indicated I tried hard to digest the storyline structure. And most of my face reaction was really poker face. 😐
It was like watching Glee episodes with pretty sarcastic words and I don't like Glee series.
Maybe some jokes appeal for some peoples especially Western peoples, but I am Asian peoples with different background and life experiences, to see such a situation like that was like clashed culture. I didn't get the joke and even I understood a little bit some innuendo, those innuendo were not really amusing for me. It was very awkward to watch.

@Anti-Matter Ah, shucks. Sorry, Anti. I really tried hard to judge whether you'd enjoy the barbie movie. I thought the battle of the kens musical part was a high point with the dancing and impeccably shot.

Oh well. Sorry about that, my friend.

I watched Oppenheimer—a phenomenal movie with an immersive soundtrack that reminds me at times of Disco Elysium. Three hours passed, and I never felt bored or annoyed at it. I would gladly have watched it if it was 5 hours. The biggest star to me was Cillian Murphy's beautiful blue eyes. Christopher Nolan, you've done it again.

Rented PAW Patrol: The Movie tonight. Holy cow, this movie surprised me, and had no right being this good, especially being based off a young kids show. I've only seen the show from clips on YouTube, and my nephew use to watch it when he was little, genuinely wanted to see this movie.

The lore about Chase (being abandoned, saved and adopted by Ryder, having flashbacks from bad experiences from the city, you could feel his anxiety and it did it well IMO), some of the action sequences (Skye practically ejected from her helicopter, destroying it to save the city), even the animation. It even had me in tears at times (I was rooting for Liberty to be adopted and become a member of the team).

Don't know if I'm going to see the sequel, saving my money for Trolls Band Together, but safe to say, the sequel has my interest a bit now. This movie surprised me.

Probably no one cares about this because PAW Patrol, so I'm gonna tag the one person on here I know likes it. Yeah, here's my thoughts @Anti-Matter, I loved the movie!

@Sunsy
Paw Patrol 2nd movie will be aired at cinema due to 29 September 2023.
So, will you give a try for the 2nd movie of Paw Patrol ?

@Anti-Matter Again, budget reasons, I'm only planning to see Trolls Band Together at the moment. After seeing the movie, I'd like to, but I don't know if I can. Again, I have to be choosy with movies I want to see in theaters, rather save it for my most anticipated movie of the year.

I do want to see the Mighty Pups movie since this first movie surprised me. Just don't know if I'll see it in theaters because of budget reasons. I have nothing against the movie.

I loved that first movie, considering getting it on DVD now.

@Sunsy
Trolls Band Together will be aired on 17 November 2023, so there is a gap by 1.5 month from Paw Patrol 2nd movie to Trolls Band Together.
Also, another movie by Illumination after Mario is Migration, due to 22 December 2023 in USA.

No good deed
Will I do
AGAIN...!!!

Sunsy

@Anti-Matter Yeah, but again, I need to save my money for Trolls Band Together, I want to see it multiple times. I have nothing against the new Paw Patrol movie, it's more of a case of I've been waiting for this movie more than anything, and don't want to risk not seeing it by buying a ticket to another movie.

Again, I have to budget myself, I can't just go see every movie in a theater.

@Rambler Eh, I don't like critic reviews. Often times I don't trust them since I tend to disagree a lot with them or they trash something I like.

Interestingly the two you linked are not even anything like I watched. I watched the theatrical one from 2021. Compared to the bit of the show I've seen, the movie really stepped things up. I'm guessing those were either TV specials or straight to DVD movies.

Now I'm wondering, are there any movies that still use the "G" rating? PAW Patrol: The Movie is the first time I've seen a "G" rated animated movie in a long time. Usually they're rated "PG" nowadays. The last animated movies I can think of that were G was Cars and Ratatouille.

Dogorilla

@Sunsy In the UK the age ratings have definitely got slightly stricter over the years, with most recent Disney/Pixar films getting PG instead of U (the equivalent of G) ratings for example. But oddly the original Toy Story and Cars are both PGs while all the subsequent films in both series got a U.

@EaglyPurahfan Oh wow, the director of Secret Invasion doesn't sound like someone ideal. Didn't know they lost James Gunn to DC. Again, I don't follow Marvel stuff, so I'll take your word for it.

I agree with all of that. Didn't know about DreamWorks having financial issues, which should make more people hope for movies that do make them money so they can keep going. I know of Ruby Gillman and Spirit Untamed not being financial successes, that's about it.

The ironic wholesomeness is when comparisons are fun. I remember the old Doom/Animal Crossing memes. I agree again with all of that.

That's fine. Given the recent DreamWorks stuff ended up on Netflix, I have a good feeling it will show up there too. I'm just waiting for Ruby Gillman to come out on DVD/Blu-Ray, might as well get the digital one in the bundle. Sorry to hear the new Indiana Jones disappointed you. Thanks for reminding me, I need to revisit Guardians 3.

Cool, looks like I'm going to have to give it a watch sometime, maybe mom might want to watch it. She always wants to watch something with me, but she doesn't always want it to be animated (unlike me, lol). Though we still do watch animated movies together and saw PAW Patrol: The Movie (the 2021 one) recently (honest opinion, it ended up being a lot better than we both anticipated, didn't feel like the preschool show at all).

@Dogorilla Interesting. I remember animated movies use to be "G," now most of the are "PG," with PAW Patrol movie being the exception. Even the PAW Patrol sequel that's coming out is rated PG. Didn't know Cars and Toy Story were PG over in the UK, they're G here in the US.

The resident Trolls superfan! Saw Trolls Band Together via early access and absolutely loved it!

Dogorilla

@Sunsy Oh I wouldn't have expected a Paw Patrol movie to be a PG! I think for Cars it's probably because of that bit with the combine harvester which might be scary for young kids, but then Cars 2 has guns and I think a car dies at one point so it's a bit odd that it got a lower rating. I'm not sure what the reasoning is for Toy Story's rating, maybe it's because of Sid's creepy toys.

Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Nintendo Music

Dogorilla

@Rambler Ah, 'dangerous behaviour involving fireworks'! To be fair it makes sense they wouldn't want children copying that. The toys do all kinds of dangerous things in the sequels though so I guess it has to be a human doing something dangerous for it to influence the rating.

Thank you Nintendo for giving us Donkey Kong Jr Math on Nintendo Music

Dogorilla

@Rambler That's interesting - seems a bit silly they'd make a cut due to being worried about under-15s watching a 15-rated film. I mean I'm sure it was watched by under-15s but the age rating is already there as a warning.

Forgot to mention I saw Oppenheimer last week, it’s an absolute masterpiece of course. Brilliantly shot, brilliantly edited, with a mesmerising soundtrack, and a performance from Robert Downey Jr that in my opinion is Oscar worthy. We know Cillian Murphy is fantastic as Oppie but for me RDJ was more of a standout since he was so… malicious.

Also, I hope more filmmakers shoot in IMAX black and white because it is GORGEOUS.

Just came back from seeing Oppenheimer. Like being at the top of a rollercoaster and looking down into the depths of hell. I definitely want to let it sit for a bit before I judge it definitively, it's that sort of movie. But I can see a strong argument for it being Nolan's best movie and one of the best movies of the last decade
