Movies I watched on vacation.

Airplane II: the Sequel (Blu-Ray)

I honestly liked this one about as much as the first.

It does retread some (well, a lot) of the same gags, but I enjoyed the light sci-fi focus introduced (it follows the maiden voyage of the first civilian shuttle flight, and even features William Shatner as the commander of a Moon base). Amongst other things, there are gags referencing Star Wars, E.T., 2001: a Space Odyssey, and of course Star Trek. Also, it's another one of those 80's "PG" rated flicks that manages to get away with a few boobs.

Bohachi Bushido: the Villain (Blu-Ray)

A vagabond Samurai in the Edo era finds himself in the employ of a gang called the "Bohachi" (an outfit involved with trafficking women to brothels), and must use his lethal talents to protect the gangs interests from rival outfits & the law.

Filled with extreme levels of gore & nudity very much intended to push boundaries, it very much won't be for many viewers, but it might be worth a look if you're into the 70's "exploitation" genre.

Lupin the 3rd VS Cat's Eye (Prime Video)

Crossover that sees the Lupin gang facing off against the cast of Cat's Eye (a franchise I'm not familiar with outside of a few City Hunter references/cameos) & a mysterious international crime syndicate who are all after a series of paintings made by the Cats' father, which hold a secret.

It's nothing groundbreaking, but a solid action flick overall (I think my favorite aspect was Zenigata teaming up with the young cop who is the Cats' foil, and who idolizes Zenigata). Didn't watch it in the most ideal of scenarios though (on a tablet in an uncomfortable hotel room chair).

Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama (Prime Video)

In this low budget 80's horror/comedy, a group of sorority sisters & nerdy frat boys find themselves locked in a mall overnight trying to survive after releasing an imp from it's imprisonment and it grants them a series of wishes for their deed... the effects of which start to backfire.

Really needs more of the imp. Most, if not all, of the killing is done by some of the sorority girls transformed into demons by the imp (really low budget costuming, like a bride of Frankenstein costume for one of the transformed girls), but this is assuredly a budget constraint. Otherwise it's just a schlocky budget horror from the era for better or worse, but theres definitely fun to be had in there.

Again I watched it in a not desired scenario (on a tablet, with ads, with a few brief streaming resolution drops, on an uncomfortable hotel room chair), which affected my experience.

Stuck on You! (Prime Video)

Gag/parody comedy that follows a couple going through divorce proceedings as their judge (really an angel trying to get them back together) takes them through the evolution of romance throughout history (plus flashbacks of their life together).

A much raunchier take on the type of comedy Airplane! is, it's pretty low brow, but I can't deny that there were moments that I thought were humorous or outright hilarious. I didn't watch it in the best of scenarios though (on a tablet, with ads, with a few brief streaming resolution dips, on an uncomfortable hotel room chair).

EDIT: Tagging @Dogorilla, as they wanted to know what I thought of Airplane II when I watched it.

I've seen the Barbie movie. It has some impressive stuff in there, which I hadn't anticipated. I went into the movie blind. Some of the scenes, songs, direction are epic. I want to see several parts again. This movie will probably get an award at the Oscars. Actually, I want to see the movie again.

@RR529 Thanks for letting me know, sounds like it's worth a watch then. Interesting that it reuses a lot of jokes - that seems a bit lazy, but I suppose the first movie is funny enough that they can get away with it.

On another note, I'm going to see Barbie today, looking forward to it

@EaglyPurahfan Wow, an 8% is really low. I'll take your word for it on the MCU since all I've seen fully is the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy and the holiday special.

Agreed. It is sad to (and sickening a bit) see some ignoring it just to give a reason to why there shouldn't be a Trolls sequel. The low box office numbers were mostly from early showings outside the US, and maybe the few drive-ins (there was an increase of drive-ins at the time, which works as people can stay isolated in their cars). Often the VOD sales get ignored to push the "Trolls shouldn't get a sequel" narrative some push. I completely agree (FWIW, as a fan, I acknowledge it did well via VOD sales). Again, going by what I've seen from time to time.

Fully agreed with all that too. I also think the Spider-Verse example is ridiculous, but I've seen it a few times already, usually on YouTube and once on Twitter (I haven't used Twitter in years). Especially since they're both different movies, and appeal to two different kinds of people. Though there can be those who are fans of both and will most likely go to both, so I don't really see the competition between the two.

Indeed, and it sometimes hits differently if you already seen said movie at home. There was so much little detail in Trolls World Tour when I finally saw it on the big screen. Even though it's out of theaters, I do hope you see Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken. I thought of you when I saw an easter egg in it. It's no longer in theaters where I live, so I'm glad I saw it when I did.

Wow, that sounds dark too. Will make note of it. Gus, he's the one I recognized from Playing With Fire. I saw the trailer when I logged into Netflix and thought "where did I see this kid before?" Then it hit me when I looked Playing With Fire's cast up and saw it was the same actor.

@WoomyNNYes
I still concerned about Barbie movie 2023 as I knew the storyline became a little bit mature, in my mind I was thinking some rude jokes, sexual innuendo, a little naughty body language, the indifference treatment, etc.
Those things I really worried that possibly make me really uncomfortable to watch (corny) or really offending me for some reason.
I heard Nicki Minaj was involved in OST and I do not like Nicki Minaj songs.
I'm afraid Barbie 2023 movie will waste my money and I will regret after watching it.

@Anti-Matter So, you're wondering if I think you'd like the Barbie movie? I think you will like it.

It's created to appeal to families, even though it's rated PG-13 here in the US (recommended for ages 13+). The first 30+ minutes of the movie may look like a comedy, but it turns into a very impressive movie. Some of the songs/musicals/dancing in the second half of the movie are amazing, extremely stunning, and one in particular is very amusing.😆 I think the barbie movie will end up winning some awards for it's high production & musical parts. This will be an iconic movie.

There's maybe only two moments I can think of where there was inuendo, but I think it was so light hearted in the context of the movie that I think you won't have a problem.

I could tell you more detail, but I don't want to spoil it. The movie is quite surprising. I'm glad I went into it blind. I say see it now while it's new & fresh, rather than later to avoid spoilers.

EDIT: While I was leaving the movie theater, I wanted to see the movie again. It's rare I want to see a movie again like that.

Does anyone else think @Anti-Matter would like the new Barbie movie? I'm trying to use my best judgement, but I also know I'm not wired like Anti<3, and don't see things through the same filter as him.

Serious answers only.

Watched Over The Hedge tonight, I can't remember the last time I saw this movie, so it felt fresh to me. I totally forgot what the movie was all about, I really enjoyed it. Funnily enough, I remember renting the GameCube game based off this one.

Yikes, Nicki Minaj song on this Barbie movie ?!😫
I don't like Nicki Minaj songs.
Her songs and her voice are horrible. 😖
Can you tell me is this song played during the movie or during the staff roll ?

@Professor_Plumber Indeed, had a good time watching it too. If you want to watch it, watch it later today or tomorrow as it's leaving Netflix on August 1st. Unless you have a DVD, then you're good to go no matter what happens.

@Professor_Plumber You're welcome, just make sure to watch it before Tuesday, it's leaving Netflix that day. That's the reason why I wanted to watch it, wanted to catch it before it left.

@Anti-Matter No, that Nikki MInaj video does not reflect the vibe of the barbie movie. That video has a tough, or thug, ganster vibe, with some adult overly sexy clothing. The barbie land in the movie never skews mature like niki minaj does in that video. That song only plays AFTER the movie ends, not during the movie. After the movie ends, they roll the credits and play that song while showcasing obscure and silly lesser know official barbie dolls from history (which actors portrayed in the movie) - like a pregnant barbie😆, or a lame, dorky ken dall called Alan. There's nothing gangster rap or overly sexy like nikki minaj in the barbie land in the movie. The Barbie land in the movie is happy and cheerful like most official toy Barbie commercials which are made for kids. And the ken dolls are quite funny, ryan gossling is one of the kens. They're delightfully ignorant and childish. I want to rewatch the movie again so I can watch what the background ken dolls are doing, they cram a lot of silliness into the movie.

The Barbie movie is rated for 13 years old and up here in the US. It's not like a Mature movie or game for 17 or 18 years old+. I think the movie is quite family friendly like a Disney movie. I think you'll like the movie. If you want to be reassured, see if you can find someone else who's seen the movie, and ask them.

EDIT: Side note, a lot of people I saw at my movie theater wore pink for the Barbie movie.

Oh, gosh.
Thanks for the clarification.
I think if I want to give a chance for watching Barbie 2023 movie, I still have a time to watch during this week.
Btw, I recognized the place when Barbie and Ken walking with roller skate shoes as that place was on Venice Beach, California the same setting for America's Next Top Model cycle 15 house.
About the song, I think Dance The Night by Dua Lipa is way much better to listen than that Nicki Minaj song. It's very Retro 70's Disco vibe with modern twist.
A lot of peoples wore pink outfits at your place ?
Cool ! 🩷
