I don't really understand remaking games from 6th gen on, as honestly those games still play fine today. The textures just look a little muddy.
But the PS1 has to have some of the ugliest games ever created. Not by intention, but the number of polygons it could handle was super limited, and without a vibrant color palette like the n64 had, it couldn't compensate for them.
So I genuinely see a point to a remake.
7th generation remakes:
As much as I personally love to see games running on the newest hardware they can? It's basically a cash grab. They do these remakes and you don't get anything really added to it. Most of the time they're basically just selling the PC version of the game again but at full retail. Better texture work is nice and I'm all for it but I don't think that alone is enough to justify a repurchasing
6th generation remakes:
Can be justified. All of those games were developed with standard def in mind even if they were multi-platform and on PC. Pull up some of the more popular games on PC of the generation like Halo or Vice City? They're still playable but they look pretty average. Even a game like Wind Waker which some would argue is graphically timeless... a bit of polish certainly didn't hurt.
5th generation remakes:
Please remake all of the games. Well maybe not all of them, just the good ones. Because they all look pretty average but I don't think we need to punish ourselves with the ones that also played horribly.
4th generation and earlier remakes:
Don't remake, they don't need remaking. It's not an outdated look what those games have is an "artstyle".
I told myself I wouldn't get excited about EA games anymore, but damn if Battlefront doesn't look amazing. My mind hasn't been blown by a Star Wars game since KOTOR. I'll probably check that out.
And here's to hoping that Nintendo brings the bombs tomorrow. It really needs to be hiding a couple Metroids or something up its sleeve to come anywhere near topping Sony's conference.
Square Enix should be great too. We've already seen the new Hitman, so there will probably be more on that. Maybe some gameplay. More details on WoFF/FFVII-R maybe. That should take up about 10 minutes of conference time... hope they blow my mind with the other 50!

Didn't get to see the Sony conference in real time because we went to watch Jurassic World tonight (great movie, BTW), but I watched it when we got back, and man that was absolutely amazing.
Easily the most exciting cobference I've seen so far this year. Sony > Microsoft > Bethesda (haven't watched EA or Ubisoft yet).
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
Yep, clearly the big difference between these two games is art style and has nothing at all to do with console specs.
Could be wrong, but I believe he's referring to the fact that pixel art typically ages better than polygons. SNES era games still look good, even in HD, whereas early 3D games are kind of horrifying to look at.

Calling them "good" is a stretch. True, they haven't aged as poorly, but neither of them really hold up anymore.
@Bolt_Strike
But they could have taken NES/SNES era Mario, rendered it in 16:9 HD and called it a day. The assets wouldn't even need to be redone and people would be ok with that. It's basically what they're doing with Super Mario Maker....
Same reason why games like Shovel Knight can be successful. That era definitely had its limitations but now those limitations are simply a style choice. Those games don't need to be remade. The early 3D era? Different story.
I really hate the debates over who 'wins' E3 every year. I know these guys will compete for sales, but when these press conferences roll around, I just want every single one to be awesome. When I watch that Nintendo event, I'll just see it as adding to the amazing stuff that MS and Sony already showed. I don't think it's possible for them to match the sheer bombshells of TLG, Shenmue III and a FF7 remake, even a new F-Zero and Metroid Dread wouldn't have that impact, but whatever they show, it's just going to add to what is already a great E3.
.... I saw this on the NeoGaf Nintendo Digital Event thread.... Ummm... Make of this what you will.
Some guy claims that.....
STAR FOX (WiiU, EAD)
Animal Crossing (WiiU, EAD)
Paper Mario (WiiU, IntSys)
The Legend of Zelda * (WiiU, EAD)
Diddy Kong Racing (WiiU, Monster Games)
Luigi's Mansion (WiiU, Next Level Games)
METROID (WiiU, Retro Studios)
they said it wouldn't be at E3... but they'll just say, "We meant it won't be playable"*
^A guy on NeoGaf said that. NOT ME. Just sharing what I read.
Revisiting this. I found the quote from "a guy on NeoGAF." It's here. It's literally just some guy posting his predictions in a thread full of people posting their predictions.
In the future, please don't do this. If this was actually NeoGAF, you could possibly be banned for trying to pass off prediction/speculation as insider info. They really hate that there, and it shouldn't be tolerated here either.

I just watched Sony's conference. Pretty good! The Last Guardian and Horizon look amazing. If I can find a decent PS4 bundle, I might get one this year, or whenever The Last Guardian releases.
Microsoft - Good, but I saw little reason as to why Scalebound had to be excluded.
EA - Same as it's always been, but had it's nice moments (Star Wars, Unravel, Mirror's Edge).
Ubisoft - Actually started out pretty strong with South Park (best reveal of E3 so far IMO) and For Honor (which looks like tons of fun), sputtered out a bit towards the end, but outside of the "meme" part it wasn't half bad.
Didn't see Sony's conference (since it was 3 in the morning) but yay Shenmue 3.
Anybody else still not convinced in getting a PS4 or even the XBOX one?
Yes. Both Microsoft and Sony told me flat out that all of their games I'm interested in are coming to PC, so I still have no reason to buy either box. If I want to play them on my TV, all I'll need to buy is a Steam Link ($50) and a wireless adapter for my Xbox 360 controller ($10).
Or use my Wii U Pro Controller. That works, right? @skywake?

Looks like you're going to be WiiU'n & PCing it up this generation.
Bah, I would of loved to of seen a new Tomba sequel on the PS3, a resident evil 7 teaser, Silent Hills resurrected and gee golly, a NEW Jumping Flash Sequel, but as always, sony aims for realism, guts, guns and violence.
To be fair, if I didn't recently build a new PC, I probably would have bought a PS4 by now.

Yup, I got an adapter for it and that works pretty damn well. My PC treats it like a 360 controller and because PC devs have been supporting 360 controllers for a while it works flawlessly. Probably better than a 360 controller given I'm more used to Nintendo's button placement.
And I'll definitely be picking up a Steam Link when that comes out

I need a PS4 to play games that won't never reach the WiiU. We don't even have clones of games like Dark Souls or Fallout and this is very annoying. If XCX gets a Fall release, than I can wait until Holidays to buy me a PS4 but if today they won't announce anything incredible for the next three months than my WiiU may collect a lot of dust after this summer...

Yup, just ordered the adapter. Looks like it works for PS3 too, if ever I was so inclined.
