My first attempt was dropping fast. I was down to around 600th, so I made a second attempt and managed 12k on the first move with a crazy cascading combo. Wound up with a score above 53k, and I'm in 210th. Should be safe.
A person without a sense of humor is like a wagon without springs. It's jolted by every pebble on the road.
I used M-Blaziken, Delphox, Heatran and Ninetails for both competition and Vivillion, as they're my strongest Fire types. If you can get Pyre to activate first, it really boosts your combo. You then just need to keep being lucky with M-Blaziken.
@Spoony_Tech Mega Heracross, Genesect, Salamence, Heatran. All max level. I almost subbed Heatran for Braviary because of it's Sky Blast ability (increases Flying type combos), but I only had Braviary up to level 8 at the time. If I slip too far, I'll try it again with Braviary in there.

Thinking on it, I would like Points to be integrated somehow. Perhaps have a new type of daily event where the more points you get, the better the reward is at the end? Like 100 coins, Moves +5 or Disruption Delay? Even some kinda score sharing feature would be nice... But, the problem with points us that they're not really equal to a player's ability, as lucky skyfalls can go on forever. (I once had a 200+ Combo on Darumaka, which left me with a ridiculous amount of points. Think it was 30,000 or something ridiculous like that?) I'd also like to see a (Just over) Month long event featuring the other 16 forms of Arceus, Each with "Double (Type)". That'd be pretty awesome, and would make Arceus a staple of pretty much any team. I can see the ghost one being extremely useful, with Giratina, and Gengar available to utilize... That probably ain't gonna happen though...
Any tips for accumulating coins in the weekly Meowth stage? Two weeks ago, I decided to switch things up and swap out Mega Lucario with Conkeldurr (with the usual Sawk, Throh and Mienshao), and it seemed that Meowth generated a coin disruption nearly every turn (I also used Moves +5). I ended up with a ridiculous number of coins (approximately 4600), which shocked me as I usually barely break even.
Last week I only made 900 coins. A net profit of 100 coins after using the Moves +5 item. Meowth hardly made any disruptions this time around though.
Am I doing something wrong or is luck to blame here?

It's all about making combos rather than matching coins, and you shouldn't worry about how much damage you inflict on Rich Meowth--it makes no difference in how many coins you get. Rich Meowth will drop more coins disruptions into the field if you get at least a 3 combo with a move. Avoid Pokemon whose ability wipes out disruptions. Very important: never bring a mega whose power erases rows or surrounding Pokemon because then you'll eliminate coins from the field.
I used to use a Ghost team led by Banette and Pokemon with the Quirky ability, but I recently switched to a Psychic team and have had more success. I also used to buy Mega Start, but I skip that now.
Here's what I do: I buy +5 moves. I use Mega Mewtwo, and three Psychics with Mega Boost ability: Meowstic (male and female), and Espeon. Do not drag Mewtwo to make a match, or you may erase a coin. Use the Mega Boost ability to quickly evolve Mewtwo. If possible, the second match in the move should be Mewtwo to hopefully charge the mega bar even faster. Mewtwo's mega ability will lead to big combos. I rarely match coins. I let the falling coins and disruptions make the matches for me. Only on the last move should you drag a coin because combos on the final turn don't trigger more coins.
I went from 1500 coins to almost 20k in 2 days farming Meowth. I never thought doing this could generate so many coins in so little time. I even got the 530 coins 4 times in a row. I often take a risk though and make the 5 match but fall short of beating the stage. I guess it's a risk reward for those extra 200 coins.

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.

Hope this helps.
Avoiding disruption delays is common sense, but now I feel silly that it didn't previously occur to me that combos had any effect on the frequency of Meowth's disruptions. Cheers for that.

I have a question for @Klimbatize or anyone who is good at this strategy. I finally got Snorlax and the Normal Mega guy to max along with Arceus, so I went back to try to S-rank Chesnaught with the Normal strategy. I still couldn't even beat him in 1:40, let alone 45 seconds. So can you move guys and make matches while combos are going and it still counts to keep the combo alive, or do you have to stop and let them fall on their own to make a combo? And I can make combos galore at the end once all the blocks are gone and it is too late to get an S-rank anyway, but up until then I can't get any combos at all. And when I do, Arceus' special never triggers anyway so it doesn't really matter. Are there any tricks to it that I'm not seeing, or am I just not good at it?
Basically, you want to keep matching even as they're dropping, which is harder, but much more effective. You'll want to practise for a bit, to get decent at it, then keep trying until you get a decent arceus match at the start, which triggers the "Double Normal" ability. (It activates more on 4 or 5 matches than on 3 matches.). You then have to keep the combo running as much as possible, as the ability only lasts whilst the combo is on. It's hard on ex stages, as you want DD, but you also want a double normal match, so be prepared for it to get expensive...
@Spoony_Tech: Yep. I usually milk it for about 14,000 coins per day (I take my 3DS to work and play at the bathroom and at lunch time). I'm making about 400 coins per heart in average, playing three times in the morning and 4 times during the afternoon and night. I'm usually getting 3- 530 coins per 5 hearts (3x530+1x330 +30) and sometimes even getting 530 four out of five chances.
I'm in the final run for Darkrai (currently at 124 and going for 150) and then I'll try to squeeze in the top 2,000 for Venasaur, but I already won the mega stone. I'm sitting on a 40k coins chest plus I'm getting a jewel by night (888 streetpasses, several (10) 3DS at home), so I'll have 3 jewels and exchange them for another 10k. Afterwards, is leveling Arceus and other neglected Pokemons.
You absolutely have to continue moving icons around during a combo. Any matches you make while a combo is going also count towards that combo, not just if they fall into the field for a match. In timed levels you should never be waiting for a combo to happen. You should be setting up another combo. The first step with the Normal strategy is getting a 4 or 5 match set up with Arceus and activating Double Normal. This may require you to move an Arceus or two without even making a match. Then, don't let the combo stop! It takes practice, but really the only way for a team of Normals led by Arceus to outperform super effectives, combos must go on for several seconds at a time. If a combo ends, immediately set up another Double Normal activation.
Remember, Gengar can be a great Mega for this strategy because it takes a second to erase the other Gengars, which gives you a "break" and lets you set up other combos. However, I don't think I used him for Chesnaught. 3 Pokemon levels, I went with the Normal mega.
You have to be very fast and focussed for the Normal strategy to be the better option.
@Klimbatize: Hi. Do you happen to know what is in store for tomorrow? I'm a bit worn out from both Darkrai (stopped at level 150) and Venasaur, so I'm not looking forward to milk Meowth for a while.
Arg, the Safari is the old one with Spinda, Cherrim, Sharpedo, Carvanha and Cherubi. I didn't catch Sharpedo the other time around, so I might give it a try.
Lugia is very tough. Might need Mega Start and a full set of maxed Pokemons.
Already caught Carnivine (all the items are available). Sixty point HP. Forgettable.
