@Waveboy You zeroed in on that darn brightness again in that video but you completely ignored those weird download speed results, which is easily the most interesting part.
In the first test where they both started at the same time, the NXL was FIVE TIMES faster than the regular model while in the secons teat where the regular model got a head start, it downloaded about three times faster.
That's easily explained and he did so in the video. The system that started first stole all the bandwidth. So for instance say he has 10 megs of speed (which isn't bad). The system he started first would take a majority of that speed say 8 megs while leaving the other with 2 or so. The only way to properly do that test is on separate routers at the same speed and that's almost impossible as both speeds need to be tested to even see if they're outputting the exact same speed. Long story short, it downloads faster.
Just to add to Waveboy's excitement, the man speaks the truth. After seeing the dull colors on Zen pinball on the XL's highest brightness setting I realized I missed my old 3ds a bit. Of course the bigger screen greatly outweighs that but all the tables look dark and colorless. Of course an obnoxious brightness is no good either and my phone can achieve this and I don't need to see vibrant colors on my phone. Just Jack the brightness up on your current model and you can't tell me the colors don't look 10 times better. I can't see how at least in the day time how anyone would want to play on a brightness less then max.
Oh and @Waveboy, I share your excitement only I can never watch another Van Damme movie ever again. That might not be a bad thing though.
Iwata recently said more 3DS remasters are on the way. Think any of these will be exclusive to New 3DS?
Yes, pretty sure I recall the 3DS being as powerful as the N64 but less powerful than the GC. So I'd expect any GC or Wii game that's not a 2D platformer to be a New 3DS exclusive. Also given the most recent 3D remake is Xenoblade Chronicles (2010), Nintendo are probably planning Twilight Princess and/or Skyward Sword 3D with no motion controls.

Eh I'd say TP will go to Wii U in HD. I do see The Last Story being ported by Xseed. I wouldn't say no to Super Mario Sunshine 3D or a Pikmin 3D Dual Pack.
Less we forget that DKCR was ported to the 3ds. Sure it was only a 2d sidescroller but in some cases looked better then it's Wii counter part.
The Wii version was visually superior and had a better frame rate. Monster Games had to lower it to 30 FPS for 3DS. I'll agree with GrumbleVolcano that any GameCube or wii ports that aren't 2D platforners will be New 3DS exclusive if ported.

And yet it still looks good. Plus it runs at 30fps in 3d so for me that's a plus. Also some levels actually look better on the 3ds imo.
With that said even Xenoblade Chronicles 3d looks bad in comparison and that's supposedly running on better hardware so I don't know why we can't get the game to run on both systems but it just looks and runs a bit better on the New 3ds. Exclusives shouldn't be how the system sells but better visuals, load times, and perhaps sound.

Actually the system is a little more powerful than a Gamecube. With the new 3DS it looks to be the power of a Wii just by comparing raw specs as the Wii and the Gamecube didn't have a multicore processor.
I'm still having trouble imagining skyward sword without motion controls. The entire gameplay was centered around it. For example how would the Ghirahim battle work?
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.
So...how powerful IS the N3DS in comparison to consoles anyway? I'm no tech geek so I don't understand the significance of terms like dual processor and all that jazz.
I get the sense that's it's more powerful than a Gamecube, but slightly less so than the Wii. Am I in the ball park here?

For one thing, it seems like the shading and lighting effects are superior to that of the wii's and make the overall package seem a little more technically advanced with certain games. Yet it's polygon power seems to be lagging a little behind in comparison to the wii. Can you honestly imagine something like super mario galaxy 2 running on the 3DS? I sure can't. I don't even think it could handle the scale of something like super mario sunshine.
Super Mario 3D Land can't compete with galaxies visuals, and that's just one example.
I can't see the galaxy games running on any console which doesn't support Wii Remote + Nunchuk, the motion controls are too heavily built in.
As for @TeeJay's question about Ghirahim, I got distracted by Hyrule Warriors again and hence still haven't beaten the Skyview Temple so I don't know.
Collecting Starbits all over the place was an integral part of Galaxy, I could see it working in a future console in the DS line by using the touch screen to move the cursor on the top screen, but other than that, I can't see it working on a console without the IR pointer. You can't just chuck something like that out, man

Super Mario 3D Land can't compete with galaxies visuals, and that's just one example. For me personally, 3DS games look fantastic, I'm no graphics jerk by any means but I am a sucker for games running in 60 frames per second. And it makes me shed sad little California raisin pixel tears whenever I see a game like SM3D Land get plunked into 30fps....It just aint right! You can blame the power sucking stereoscopic 3D for that.
So is what I said correct? More than GC but less than Wii?

Again, I'm not talking about the controls, just the visuals. I'm saying the 'visuals' for lets say SMG 3DS would not be as good as the two Wii galaxies if they were to be released on the 3DS. Look at 3D Land, does that look as good as Galaxy 1 & 2? Nope. naddah. Still, Nintendo could do some wonderful things with those spiffy shaders & lighting.
I agree, no way the 3ds can do a good Galaxy Game justice. Just the colors alone aren't there. Rendering and shading would suffer as well. I would however like to see a proper Mario 64 done on the 3ds. The DS remake of that didn't do the game any justice whatsoever. Touch screen controls just felt horrible but when the 3ds came out at least it felt a bit better with analog.

I went to the new 3ds xl demo at gamestop. There was like 20 people, and they gave out codename steam demo codes, ORAS demo codes, paper majoras mask masks, and a map of hoenn. I got the mask, all 3 demo codes, amiibo poster, and hoenn map. I of course played majors mask, and the 3d felt very natural. the c stick is very stable and you won't slip your thumb off it. The nintendo rep brought a 3ds xl (old) to compare the 3d. It was a very fun event and i can truly say the hype is real.
So I just got back from Gamestop and tried out the new 3ds XL. Really like what I seen of that and Majora's Mask. At first I didn't like the C-stick nub as it felt like it wasn't even moving till I actually got in-Game. Then it felt perfect. I didn't lose the 3d much at all and I was trying to. I think during normal play you might never lose it. Also glad it works both left and right and up and down.
@Waveboy This last one is for you, I didn't get to test out the brightness as it was locked out but the first thing I noticed was I could hear the game clearly and it was quite noisy in the store today. I'm not even sure if it was turned up all the way but Majora's Mask sounded great and that's already a huge plus. What I did see of the brightness however looked good. Not sure the setting but it didn't look maxed but the picture look clear and colorful.
