@Araquanid You can just pause and go back to a previous save or checkpoint under System. Or say no when it asks if you wish to continue and reload a save that way.
@otterskateboard You mean a yellow shield door? You need Power Bombs to open those. Find another route if you don't have them.
@BLP_Software
That helps. I saw some red plants too. Does it suck your aeon down or do you just get to pass through for free

@JaxonH Any damage you take while using the armour (and maybe countering stuff with the enhanced melee) uses up aeon. But for the red plants the drain is very slow.
Ahaha... got the Varia Suit. Now we're talkin... and I see that yes, the developers very much do expect you to bomb hop to reach certain places.

Yeah @JaxonH, you missed the Spider Ball upgrade back in Area 1. There's really no section in the game (or at least none that I've encountered, and I'm in Area 6) that requires Double Bomb Jumps. You're supposed to be using the Spider Ball to scale walls.
Oh, sorry I do actually have Spiderball. But there were some sections I had to double jump in during Area 2. One was in this section with vertical walls and honeycomb on it so you couldn't Spiderball, and I couldn't figure a way to climb up without using the hop.
The other wasn't a double jump but required perhaps even more skill to pull off. There was a dead end, and hidden blocks at the top at the end of the wall. There was one of those little creatures that gets blown up in the air, then floats down. Had to use missiles from a very sharp angle to break the blocks away, and time it perfectly so that before they reappear, I could quick freeze the enemy, hop onto it and jump through the hole I blasted open with the missiles.
Took me an insane number of tries- I had almost convinced myself it was impossible to do, but then I somehow pulled it off.

This is a pretty solid game. They even included an ability that allows you to scan the sorrounding area for hidden powerups and secret areas. Now you wouldn't need a walkthrough or a guide to know where each energy, missle, aeon upgrades are placed on the map. This game will not disappoint.
@JaxonH
actually - you just should have waited till you get further upgrades Don't waste time using a technique that is hard to pull off - you really don't need to bomb hop
I've been playing like crazy and this is prolly my GOTY for 2017. My gods they did a spectacular job on this remake.... Going for 100% first play through and taking my sweet time finding everything. Music and sound effects are great and it's just amazing.
I had literally nowhere else to go. It was the only way to go or I was going to be stuck.

@JaxonH Regarding your last post on previous page: I think I know what you mean by vertical walls and honey. If it was the room few rooms before the electric shield powerup, then you were supposed to use Spider Ball and roll under some walls.
In the room where you have to break blocks that are in the top-left corner, you can freeze the enemy first, shoot all the blocks with free aim and then jump. The enemies freeze for longer if you hit them with a Charge Beam.
Also, since we are on the same area, have you found Spring Ball yet? That should help you as well if you really have had places you thought you needed Bomb Jump for.
The game, while being a fabulous experience, is also a bit of an enigma for long time fans. Things that were hard, like the bomb hop and general exploration are now easy, while the combat (according to many) has been ramped up.
@bellow Thing is, 2D Metroids have been more about speed than item collection (which is what Prime games focus on). The latter didn't do anything at all in Super except give bragging rights, and Zero Mission even gave different endings for having LESS items. Since items in this game grant Chozo Memories which remain available on the file even if you start a new game, you're likely expected to spend your first playthrough getting the items, then focusing on speed for the following ones.
The bomb jump timing is roughly the same as it was in Super, you just gain more height per jump making it less tedious. I guess the lack of Speed Booster and the difficult shinespark also contribute to more relaxing exploration, but honestly I'm kind of glad they aren't in as it allows for more creative level design which doesn't call for long, bland hallways just to use them. Phase Shift is a much more elegant solution for still having speed-based obstacles.
@BLP_Software I think there's one instance where you need to bomb jump in order to get a missle upgrade. It's in a tight space in an underwater area with spikes on either side of the walls, only way to get to the power up is jumping via bombs.
