Looks like a remake of the 2nd game in the series. Which is huge for me since it's the first Metroid game I played to completion.

It got announced during the treehouse live.

(guess this is why that other fan remake got stopped!)

This is amazing! They knew just showing off a logo would be disappointing so immediately announcing a 2D game that looks pretty complete is a perfect way to assuage fears. if they had done this with Federation Force, I think people would have been less upset. But wow! I'm so hyped

As some people have already said, this is likely the reason for AM2R's takedown by Nintendo.
Why no Switch version though. (Unless they will say that later during E3...)

Metroid II was the only part of Samus' story I never finished; tried but the lack of a map was a real issue for me.
