Oh really? Last night I tried to play online and it just didn't connect. Maybe that's because the update was released today I guess
That could be the case. Or maybe you have to do that system update before it tells you that you need to download the patch, as I downloaded the update, checked Mario Kart and then went to the eShop. I dunno, but oh well.
Weird... I can't join a single race, even if I do find people I get booted... Nintendo, what did you do? D:
That's really weird. You've patched it properly (and it says version 1.1 on the Online Multiplayer button on the main menu) and everything? And you've never had any problems playing online before the patch? I actually used to not be able to play online myself due to my crappy Internet, and now we have crappy but slightly better Internet and it works fine, and it was working perfectly for me tonight after I patched it, so I don't know what it could be. I hope it starts working for you soon.
I suspect the dodgyness of online tonight is because they've just released an update that everyone wants to test out. 5million copies and most of them getting a little blue notification telling them that there's a patch that fixes online..... and a fair chunk of them going online to test it out.

It says Version 1.1 and I've had no problems before the patch. I might redownload the update and see if that fixes it... you can finally play online without glitchers, but now I can't play online at all.
EDIT: Re-downloaded the update and... nothing. It could probably be due to the game getting over filled with people trying out the update. :/
Hopefully it is just because it's overfull then. If that's the case, then it's pretty impressive that I played for hours without lagging or disconnecting or anything, considering my Internet tends to be slow, plus the access point is on the other end of the house.
No, nothing appears on the home menu. The only changes are that in Mario Kart 7 on the Online Multiplayer button it says version 1.1, and it appears in Add-On Content in the Data Management part of the settings, where it can be deleted. Oh, and it takes up 43 blocks on the SD card.

Surprisingly, no one chose Maka Wuhu.
When I first got on after I patched it last night, everyone was picking it just to test it out.
Also helps when your on the other side of the world.
Not really given the closest people in most matches you play online are from Japan which is just about as far away from Australia as the US really. I go into a "regional" community it's even worse because then I'm playing against people from France, Spain and the UK. There is an Australia/New Zealand Nintendo community..... but for some reason most people playing in that are also from Europe.
So that means that in most games I get a minimum of ~300ms latency from the closest player to me.
I keep getting disconnection errors... Must be the patch.. Never had this many drops, ever, if at all. Or, maybe it's just an overload on the servers from everyone getting back online..
