The 3DS finally has a good digital music synthesizer for you to download exclusively on the eShop. Did anyone pick it up?
I convinced my brother to use his idle $25 and I paid for the rest. There's plenty you can you can do to create some high quality digital music files on the go, here. The price is a bit, but you won't find an app for any other device that isn't around the same price, and you get what you pay for in this case. You can send your music files to other 3DS systems via local communications or Wi-Fi if want, and SD card data can be transferred to your PC(or something else) for use on there.
Thought about it...eh, maybe for Christmas or something...got other games to deal with right now. lol (and limited on money too)
Are you able to load your music onto the computer? Or...3DS only?
I'm interested, if nothing else this seems like it'll be a reliable drum machine. For people who have downloaded it, what sound format does it export to?
always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)
EDIT: Sounded alot better on the headphones and my reciever... Never the less, I think you guys get the point. You don't have to download the file if you don't want, but that was the only way I knew how to show an example.
I hate to sound entitled but MIDI synthesizers are available for free, and the stuff they make isn't of too great quality. I checked on the site and there are options for reverb and delay which aren't normally supported in MIDI though... It also says that "song data and MIDI data can be saved" :/

It's not as easy to get into as Rytmik, but one thing I like about it is that you can compose using a piano roll editor á la FL Studio.
As far as I'm aware, it is NOT MIDI (songs can be exported as MIDI into your music editor of choice). It's a synthesiser pure and simple. [EDIT opening up the file SCAR392 provided, this is definitely not the quality you can expect from the KORG M01D. It sounds much better.]
In the day, the model this app is based off of would have had an RRP of £1499 or $2166.
Initially, I was worried that the app would only be suitable for certain types of music like house, but listening to the demos included, it certainly seems versatile.
Again, MIDI it ain't.
I'll be sure to post something here when I get the chance. I've got three long days of work ahead of me, and I haven't really had time to try it out properly.

I'm confused now.
Good ones aren't free on ANY portable device, so perhaps that is the difference. According to the description on the KORG site, this was the synthesizer pros used from the 80's that are still relevant for digital music composition even today.
A similar piece of software may be available on you PC, but not on another device. I've looked for synthesizers on PC before and I wasn't ever able to find one that I liked with this many options. Just my take.
The memory options are what I would expect, too. That's a good thing.

@edhe
What is it then? It says the files are MIDI when you save them and says that on the official site. I would expect that KORG knows what file type they're using...
EDIT Also, like I said, I was just as surprised how my sample sounded when I took the file off of my SD card. It sounded ALOT better directly on the 3DS and my surround sound receiver. I don't know what speakers they expect you to use and have it sound the same on any device. That took me 30 minutes and I was just trying to make something half decent to show what it is. By the time I realized it sounded different, I just uploaded it anyway
I'm sure if you a figure out the software, spend a decent ammount of time, and actually try to make something nice, it will be.
What I assume is happening is that while you compose, the program is compiling your notes into a MIDI, so you can export it onto your SD card. What's being played back in the program is something different entirely. There's probably some issue involved which doesn't allow you to export as something else, perhaps copyright or filesize issues?
Anyway I guess you could hook up an aux cable and record using that into your computer, which is what Rytmik users had to do if I remember correctly. It's good to hear this software is good for all genres of music, too.

You beat me to it. Personally, I think it might be that the app couldn't license a suitable encoder. I read the manual and it suggested importing the MIDI into a "DAW" (Digital Audio Workstation) and purchasing a Korg soundset.
I'm a bit dissapointed I can't export songs as is, but I'm familiar with the process, having used Rytmik. I just hope I can get the sound quality to be as clear as possible.
MIDI is not a sound file format, it is purely notation data (which note plays when etc) that can be used by synthesizers or software instrument plugins to render audio output. MIDI is used to enable the exchange or transmission of note and performance data between compatible devices.

@Mk_II
Ok. So that would mean some of the data is missing, because I'm only using the MIDI by itself, right? Meh, I guess I'll figure it out. I thought it was alot simpler than it is.

Basically, if you play the same MIDI data on another device, it will sound different (unless it uses General Midi sounds but that's another chapter). MIDI data does not contain the actual samples or sounds you hear.

Does anyone know of a good synthesizer for this app? Any help would be appreciated. It doesn't need editing and other options, just making sure the Midi files are read correctly off of the SD card.
