Glad she did this, cos I have DQ 7, but don't have the DLC. It's in my backlog, but not at the focal point of it. I wish Nintendo would do a better job of preserving their legacy of amazing games and machines so people wouldn't have to do this.

Geez, even as a Dragon Quest fan, i dont care for VII much. Cant imagine going through that grind, good on them.

I haven't gotten around to DQ7 yet, and I was thinking of playing the PlayStation 1 version. .... I wasn't aware the 3DS version had extra content DLC, hmm. I'm not sure how it works, or if I'll need a homebrewed 3DS to access it, but I'm glad that this content isn't going to be lost forever.

This serves as a reminder: as gamers, we should be trying to let gaming companies know that locking DLC content behind server-based walls is a terrible practice, particularly if that content is actually stored in the game's data.

I get the idea of limited-time distributions, but both DQ IX and VII 3DS did this nonsense.

Square could do well to release these on Switch, PC etc. and make sure others get a chance to play these masterpieces. I lost my 3ds a while back and can't afford a new one, and restoring my profile is hard as I have to call Nintendo. So I am emulating these games but I'd gladly buy them again on Switch etc. Bless this woman for her work.

@MJF Oh yeah it’s a mess. There are 56 tablets and you can only hold 24 at a time and they hold exclusive monsters, mini medals and the best game gear. I am glad that Squeenix expanded the game but they didn’t make it easy to complete.

Wait... DQ7 had DLC? I picked up the game before the eShop closure but fell off because I just had so many other games in my backlog. I want to go back to it at some point, though--it's not that I disliked it or anything, like many people apparently did. I enjoyed what little I played. Was this new content that wasn't in the PS2 version? I'm so curious to know more about this. I can't think of many remasters that get additional, post-launch content.

Props to all who were involved with this effort! I played through and finished this version of Dragon Quest VII roughly a year ago but didn't bother with the DLC tablets or most of the post-game. It's a decent game, but the plot can be quite a slow burn/slow paced and easily could've ended earlier than it did. Definitely not the first game I'd recommend someone new to DQ to start with. It's essentially a remake from the PS1 original that's tailored for the 3DS and has a few QoL improvements. Frankly, I think we're lucky this left Japan at all.

In a way, the game lends itself well to portable play. Each island has its own story vignette and can (usually) be played through in 1-5 hours most of the time. So it's easy to play it in chunks and take breaks...though I recommend breaks to be short. Some of the arcs on each island present some unique scenarios I've not encountered elsewhere. There's also a story log in the menus a player can use to bring themselves up to speed if they do go on a longer hiatus too.

Ugh…. Guessing this worked just like FE: Shadows did, where you have to progress to a certain point in order to access even purchasing and downloading the dlc. Annoying. I like many grabbed this and a bunch of other titles before the eshops closure last year, and just now finding out it had dlc locked behind progress and a server connection….. so frickin annoying.

Wondering if it’s possible to access the save file without a modded 3DS….

Managed to beat the game and download the DLC this past Saturday, with less than two days to spare. A very good game, but also a very long one. I'd recommend it to anyone just once because the concept was pretty fun. 85 hours well spent.

A remastered dq 9 would be a great addition to switch with all doc included

Amused by how many others, like me, had DQVII in their backlog without knowing it had DLC. Mildly peeved by how badly signposted it was. Probably wouldn’t have bothered with it anyway - as others have pointed out, it’s a long enough game anyway.

I managed to finish the main story within a month and a half and download the 3 story DLC's on the day of the online shutdown.

@GravyThief true, and I typically prefer that as well. The video creator only had like 500 subs yesterday so maybe they were trying not to take potential viewers away from her.

Like many of you, I own the game, it's in my backlog and I had no clue that it had DLC. If they're is no way to legitimately get it at this point, I am very glad that these save files exist to at least allow us to experience things. Boy do I miss the days of a physical release with the entire offering there at purchase!
