Round Up: All The Games From Nintendo's Indie World Showcase - November 2022

I was completely hooked on Have a Nice Death until I saw the roguelike bit. Beyond tired of needing to die over and over again in games in order to advance the story.

Storyteller looks absolutely incredible and definitely right up my street.

That was one of the best Indie Worlds yet! Looking forward to a good chunk of them.

I wish A Little to the Left would go away. It's like they purposefully put it in the presentation again just to **** me off, knowing how much it annoyed me last time.

Blanc caught my eye in a good way though. I sense it will be a short ride, but hopefully a pleasant one.

What i want to know is what happened to Outer Wilds? That was announced like February of 21 for summer of 21 and nothing over a year nearly two later

@gcunit why did it annoy you so much? Genuinely curious, nothing about it seemed offensive to me?

@somnambulance World of Horror is excellent - there was a little bit of a developer hiatus, but the guy doing it has bounced back & is delivering some awesome updates on the PC version.

ONI is tickling my weeb bone for sure, gonna have to keep an eye on that one. Aka looks super cute and cozy too, all in all a fairly enjoyable presentation.

Maybe it's just because the high-profile indies are big enough to go in Directs and other major presentations now, but I've found these showcases less and less interesting as time goes on. I only want to play one or two picture book style, narrative-driven games about someone overcoming their personal problems a year, and I just finished Sumire, so my quota's filled for a while. Back when they were still calling them nindies, it felt like there were a dozen really cool games per showcase, but less than half of these seem like they're offering any actual challenge, and half of those are roguelikes, which conflate challenge with punishment and content with randomization. It's not like there aren't plenty of great indies coming out on Switch, either, but a lot of them seem to get passed over for some reason.

I am a little disappointed that there isn't a heavily made up John Hurt and a puppet dog in Storyteller.

@KateGray Looks like Nintendo Life has gone back in time to last year’s indie world direct … which is funny because Nintendo are currently advertising on facebook for preorders for the upcoming game Splatoon 3 this coming September.

Usually these indie workshops never yield anything of interest but A Space for the Unbound definitely has my attention. I enjoy games with heavy themes like Needy Girl Overdose, Omori and Doki Doki Literature Club.

@Jackpaza0508 I played the Storyteller demo on Steam a while ago (it's still available) and I thought it was great. I can't wait for it to come out.

I have Inscryption on PC and, while I haven't finished it yet, it is definitely a trip.

Overall, I really enjoyed this presentation. I added eight games to my wish list (we will see how many stick).

I was just talking to my friend about how I want Have a Nice Death on Switch, and now it was announced!

I loved the plentiful variety of art styles seen there, and the music pieces were beautiful

I was hoping when I read about "cats" that Stray was announced for the Switch. That would have been awesome! Instead, a couple of decent games I might check out at some point.

Sports Story has been on my wishlist for some time. StoryTeller looks like it could be interesting, but want some more details.

Apart from World of Horror, there was definitely nothing here for me. Pepper Grinder looked cool, but I haven't played too much of Drill Dozer, so my excitement for it is definitely tempered.

This definitely skewed to the 'cozy' end of the range on first viewing, not my cup of tea, and I'm not really into the 'personal problems' kind of games either. I'm somebody who grew up with games in the 90s and 2000s, and at the risk of sounding old, I like indie experiences that follow a similar path. Stuff like Lunistice and the upcoming Bushiden all have me pretty excited!

I still feel I am well catered to, though. Between Kickstarter, ROM Hacks/mods and new games for older systems, I have got more than enough to play.

Still, in relation to this Indie Direct, for me it was a disappointment. Although I am happy for others if they found something to latch on to.

I'm glad to have a release date for Sports Story, but nothing else caught my eye. I'm really not into those cozy/artsy games, so there wasn't much for me.

Best Indie Showcase in a long time for me, at least 5 games I want to pick up

After the Nintendo Farming Simulator Direct, leave it to the Indie World Direct to save the day! As so often with these, there was so much good stuff in there! Can't wait to play Wobbledogs in a couple days!

Only a couple good looking ones. And 2 that I already knew about. So kind of meh, all around.

This was a very strong Indie Direct. Nothing that I would buy necessarily but the diversity of games and talent was fantastic to see.

Not enough love for Oni! That game blew me away

A very deceptive one for me. Apart World of Horror, Wrestlequest or Pepper Grinder, there was almost nothing. Only a pretty bunch of games with a narrative accent, which seem to be the new trend after rogue like and Metroidvania. How about a narrative / Mvania / Rogue like title for a change huh ?

Bring us back the joys of Arcade !!!

Nothing too interesting except fore Wrestle Quest. Rogue Legacy could be ok. I need to play the original first, and it's only that rerun games can be hit and miss that has stopped me from trying it.

@Anachronism I didn't want to say it: "less and less interesting" but you are right. Nothing caught my eye in this direct .

I also just finished Sumire. I bought it on sale, not expecting much, and I was pleasantly surprised. I was also not expecting it to get that dark, but that made it more interesting. Overall a good story and a good game. What did you think of Sumire?

I wish Have a Nice Death was a metroidvania rather than a rogue lite, but I’m still excited for it. Rogue Legacy 2, Blanc, Pepper Grinder, and a few others look really exciting, but I probably won’t ever get them.

I wish Metal Gear Tactics got some form of info here, but I did at-least like the other announcements, such as Blanc.

@dugan I mainly bought it because of the beautiful art style, and was absolutely not disappointed there. The music was also pretty nice, though a little too repetitive after a while. The gameplay and controls could have been fleshed out more, but were about what I expected from this kind of game, and the card minigame was a nice surprise. I haven't really tried to see how much the story changes with different choices, but I more or less went for what the game seemed to want me to do, and I managed to complete the list and get what I think was the "good" ending. I lost my grandmother, lost touch with my closest friends, and hit a similar depressive period around the same age, so that all hit pretty close to home. The character interactions were mostly pretty solid, though they don't really go into detail on what caused the problems with your parents or the other girls. The "people just drift apart" explanation is a bit dissatisfying, though that also hits pretty close to home, so I guess it wasn't a bad choice even if I don't like it. Overall, I'd say it's one of my favorite "narrative adventure" games, though as I said, I don't play that many of them.

So many announcements, many interesting art styles.
Sadly, none seem to appeal to my palate

Blanc looks like a real chill out game but I know it's going to be short.

A lot of neat stuff, and I mean neat on multiple fronts - a variety of gameplay, themes and visuals that continue to remind that you don't need ray-traced photorealism to make your game an absolute looker. Venba and Desta, Goodbye World and Dordogne, Pepper Grinder and Have a Nice Death, Aka and A Space for the Unbound, Once Upon a Jester (watch out, Rainsdowne Players, you will soon be Switch's only theatre sim no more!😃), already familiar stuff like Curse of the Sea Rats and Blanc, deceptively simple but charming ones like Storyteller (did I just call continuity mosaic puzzles "simple"? Gorogoa had me stumped for months!😅) and A Little to the Left... so many new wishlist items here. Also welcome to finally see Rogue Legacy 2 arrive and finally see Sports Story back on the radar with a release date.

And there might still be something peculiar over in Japan - I haven't checked that IW yet.

@bozz I like roguelites (as long as they live up to the "lite" part and leave you with am amount more towards story or gameplay progress after every run), although Isaac, for all its greatness, has been testing my patience as of late - the tougher goals can have you waste your time (and practice your NSFW vocabulary) with repeated completely fruitless runs where you either done goofed or collected nothing to match the challenge (or both). The frustration isn't enough to make me give up, but it certainly cements my appreciation for the titles where you can steadily procure permanent upgrades rather than unlock a ton of cool stuff and still pray to RNJesus for it.

Not one comment for Curse of the Sea Rats!! Unbelievable! This looks like a cross between Bloodstained and Hollow Knight. I love it. Metroidvanias are awesome.
