UK chart data is now in for the week ending 21st November, revealing that Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity has made a dent in the top ten in its debut week.
Nintendo and Koei Tecmo's Warriors-style Zelda spin-off has entered the charts in sixth spot, serving as the best-selling Switch exclusive of the week. Despite this success, the title couldn't manage to dethrone the most popular current titles available on rival platforms.
Fortnite: The Last Laugh Bundle, also entering the chart as a new title, has debuted just above Hyrule Warriors in fifth spot; Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War takes first position, with plenty of last week's best-sellers also sticking around for a second week near the top.
Here's a look at this week's top ten all formats chart:
Last Week | This Week | Title |
---|---|---|
2 | 1 | Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War |
4 | 2 | FIFA 21 |
3 | 3 | Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales |
1 | 4 | Assassin's Creed Valhalla |
- | 5 | Fortnite: The Last Laugh Bundle |
- | 6 | Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity |
10 | 7 | Watch Dogs: Legion |
5 | 8 | Animal Crossing: New Horizons |
8 | 9 | Mario Kart 8 Deluxe |
9 | 10 | Minecraft (Switch Edition) |

That's a lot of tired showgirls in the top ten.
New systems but still mostly just the same old titles as usual.
Not bad for Age of Calamity. Could have been better but up against new consoles I think sixth is respectable for essentially a somewhat niche spinoff. I’d like to know how many sales that actually was...
Sitting behind a Fortnite bundle release doesn't scream of success... but it's a niche genre.
I played the demo and felt it was a very well produced game, really feels like a first party in every way. However, it's still a genre I don't like.
Now, if they release a version in the new year that's a little cheaper and comes with a new X button bundled in - then maybe I can be tempted.
Mine should be arriving today 😃
PS5 biggest UK launch ever, Switch still holds 4 titles in top 10, Switch boxed game sales are up 52% week-on-week. Age of Calamity had 324% bigger launch sales than the first Hyrule Warriors.
That is a good week for Nintendo if you ask me.
@TheFullAndy Thanks for the stats. I really wish this site would start reporting them as part of the posts about the charts as GamesIndustry.biz publish them weekly.
And Demon’s Souls drops out, as predicted. It’ll be a while before a next-gen title has any real legs in this chart.
@Rob3008
Yeah Game Industry Biz are my go to as well for this stuff.
I find it strange how Nintendo Life chooses not to share the more positive details in the chart for Switch and just focuses on how one new Nintendo game can't unseat massive third party titles available on all other platforms. It is strangely negative like their report last week too.
These have been a great couple of weeks for Switch considering.
Animal Crossing New Horizons need more boost...!! 🚀
@TheFullAndy,
Half of those PS5's are on e-bay, being sold for silly prices, same with the Xbox series x.
@Anti-Matter,
With 26 million and counting copies sold, I think the new Animal crossing game is doing pretty well, and we still have the holiday period coming up.
It's a unfair comparison.
1 console exclusive vs multiplatform games on PC/Xbox/PS combined.
Those five top spots there confirms how out of touch I am with the state of the current industry. IMO all those are just awful boring games from franchises that have been doing the same game yearly. I would love for this open world first person craze ends soon so we can have a breath of fresh air and creativity once again. Seeing those numbers I guess it will take some time at least for that to happend.
I think PS5 and Series X software could've been higher if the consoles weren't being passed around from scalper to people who then store them away until Christmas day.
New consoles but the same old games with the same tired formula, this is why I cancelled my preorder for series x and why I bought the new Hyrule Warriors. Although I've not opened it yet as Animal Crossing has made a resurgence in my play time.
Sad not to see Sakuna in the charts and for such a low debut position for HW, but this is what the UK does 🤷🏼♂️
@johnvboy
To be fair those PS5s arent being put up by the people who bought them but by the delivery workers who swiped them!
One more shout for ACNH.
Released in March, and still in the top ten.
K.K. rules!
@dugan
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe released in April 2017, still in top 10!
A competitive Top 10 is best. Long may it last.
@Anti-Matter I bought it last night for my son 😊
@TheFullAndy,
Don't believe the hype, there will be very few PS5's that have stolen, there were a lot of people realizing that these consoles would be valuable leading up to Christmas, and they also knew full well that both Sony and Microsoft were not going to make enough.
@johnvboy
Of course, I was only messing!
Show me a console launch where everyone who wanted it got the console day 1 then you are showing me an unsuccessful console.
Scalpers are scumbags but likewise they wouldn't exist if people weren't willing to pay stupid money.
I wanted a PS5 day one but decided to avoid the launch period madness and will get one next year when there is healthy stock and all the system kinks at launch have been ironed out.
Considering its a bit niche and its up against Next Gen i think its done fairly well. Playing it this morning and its so good and combat just feels and looks cool.
For a fairly niche game, No.6 isn’t bad.
@GuruOfGreatness Have fun. I haven’t stopped playing since downloading on Friday!
Quick question about Nintendo Europe.
I'm working in Russia and Nintendo games don't hit the shop on release day (they come a week or so later to the shops). If you want the game you need to buy it on the eShop. But the eShop Nintendo games are priced around 20 dollars higher than in the shops.
So, if you really want the game day one then you need to buy it at a higher eShop price (BOTW is even more expensive than others on the eShop).
Do any other regions have this strange pattern of games being more expensive on the eShop than in stores (and stores not selling them day one)?
@TheFullAndy,
Same here, will get one once the fuss dies down, and to be honest there is not much worth getting any of these new consoles for yet, happy with my humble Xbox One S, the graphics seem fine to me.
It was obvious for months that the Switch would be missing out on everything big this holiday.
Almost 4 years and 64 million base and you need to go buy a 7 year old home console if you want to play any of the top games of the holidays.... or get stuck playing another Warrior game. Just save the cash and wait for Bravely.
@johnvboy
I am ready for next gen.
60fps hopefully becoming standard (at lower res anyway which is fine by me) and the much faster loading which will be a real game changer, I can't wait! But will have to.
Fortnight? Ugggg. Why? Why....
Hyrule Warrios Age of Calamity UK retail launch sales should be ~23,000.
Animal Crossing New Horizons sales should be just under that. In fact, last week may have been the game's 3rd biggest week of retail sales in the UK, behind its launch and 2nd week sales.
Seems like the next-gen titles that are performing well are the cross-gen games that were expected to do big numbers (Black Ops Cold War, Valhalla, Miles Morales). Everything else (WatchDogs Legion, Demon's Souls, Sackboy, Godfall, Dirt 5) has been kinda underwhelming or straight-up flopping.
With big games still to come this year (e.g. Cyberpunk if it's not delayed again), we may have our first week since March that Animal Crossing isn't in the top 10.
Maybe add some cool dlc
@TheFullAndy,
Frame rates and loading times may define the next generation, as to the wider audience graphics have already reached a point of diminishing returns.
@johnvboy
Don't forget the new holy grail of ray tracing! Which I would sacrifice in a heart beat for 60fps.
Looks like Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity is primed to sell 3-4 million copies globally by the end of the year, which would make it the best-selling Warriors game of all time.
Will be interested to see how well it sells during Black Friday week. The big Switch evergreens will all get a massive sales boost via price drops and bundles, which could drown out Age of Calamity.
There, here's some money Nintendo.
Now you can add our dear Kass ~
@TheFullAndy,
Ray tracing it's the future I tell you, you know when they are scraping the barrel for graphical features, when they keep bringing tosh like this up.
Placing 6 behind a bunch of multiplats(even Spidey is on PS4 and 5) is still great. Also nice to see a few Switch games still in the top 10.
