@sixrings Why? It doesn't seem to be that good. That was my most anticipated game heading towards the end of the year, but playing that demo made me feel that the games were quite shallow and I would lose interest in it quickly if I bought it.

That feeling when the XBox outsells a Sony handheld in Japan 6:1 and Nintendo outsells all Sony 3:1.

Of course, it's Japan where a fishing game makes top 10, and there's not one shooter or sports game other than one featuring Mario, and GTAV is nowhere to be found...but hey, we'll take it!

In a couple of weeks Pokémon will have overtaken Super Smash Bros.....

A lot of children got Pokemon Sword & Shield this Christmas it would appear. That's the equivalent of getting coal in your Christmas stockings.

Just look at these basic numbers should tell everyone. And this isn't with Switch Lite.

Ring Fit ends 2019 with half a million copies sold. It will soon outsell all 4 Labo Kits combined. It's a shame that the constant supply issues prevented its numbers from going any higher.

Well the game is aimed at children, perhaps the adults should just stop moaning about it.

If you add digital sales from all the other weeks, it is very likely that Sword/Shield has already surpassed Sun/Moon's lifetime total of 4 million copies. Very impressive numbers.

@Porky I rather get coals cause then you could survive the winter. It gets cold during the winter so those coals comes in handy when a snowstorm hits and you need something to warm up the fireplace. Even better, they are perfect for a winter grilling as well.

I know the Xbone isn't popular in Japan but I didn't expect it to sell about 300 copies. That's incredibly pathetic

Whilst no means a bad amount, i do wish Luigi's Mansion 3 was selling more in Japan, it deserves to break a million at least, fortunately it seems to be selling much better everywhere else in the world, it's doing really well in the UK surprisingly, which i'm so happy to see.

@Octane You could say that, but I'd put money on the bet that the PSP outsold the Vita in the same time period despite not being listed in charts, and both being discontinued.

Is Christmas even a holiday wildly celebrated in Japan?

@LUIGITORNADO Not with the same significance as in the West, and with the full month+ long "season" of it, but yes, it's still a "major" holiday there, in the same way Valentine's Day is, more or less.

@LUIGITORNADO You should see some of the Christmas light setups over there via some videowalks on YouTube. (Check out Rambalac and Nippon Wandering TV.) They put ours to shame. xD (At least here in the USA.)

Even more impressive when you consider the mass hysteria and
hate surrounding these titles, of course when you consider it was only the minority on the internet and not the wider Pokemon buyers, then the fact these games have sold so well should hardly come as a surprise to anyone.

Nintendo got all of the top positions in Japan. Not in general.

@Iacobus Christmas lights doesn't mean they make a big deal out of it.

Infact the sales numbers don't indicate anything of the sort.

And actually hardware sales were down from the month before.

@Iacobus I forgot about the whole blinding of the christmas displays thing. Yeah, there's some extreme decorating there. I have envy.

@Razer It's a holiday people and public spaces decorate for, special meals are eaten, gift exchanges do happen. They have Santa imagery. It's still a major holiday that's recognized. Just not as significant as in the West where the whole fiscal and seasonal year kind of revolves around.

Let's see numbers next week. They usually drop off a cliff now, as expected.

Especially interested to see what Sony can pull out prior to the PS5, wherever that is scheduled...

@NEStalgia Unless things have changed in the last few years, Christmas in Japan is a holiday for couples. Christmas Eve is really the more important day with couples going out on dates and people eating fried chicken from KFC. What gifts are given are likely to be non video game related. New Year on the other hand is when kids get money and buy stuff.
