It might be 2019, but somehow people are still discovering unreleased games on the NES.
YouTuber Stephan Reese, also known as Archon 1981, recently acquired the NES game UWC from a former Nintendo employee. If you've never heard about this wrestling title before, that's because it was never actually released. The name is reportedly a placeholder title for WCW (World Championship Wrestling), which was purchased by Ted Turner in 1988, according to Kotaku.
Around 1989, SETA submitted this game to Nintendo of America and it was never actually made available to the general public. There's no information about what exactly happened. All that is known, is the Nintendo employee who previously had the game was originally given it for testing purposes because they were a fan of wrestling.
Reese intends to share the ROM online in the future. For now, though, check out direct footage of the game in his video below. It looks and plays as you would imagine and includes popular wrestlers of the time such as Sting and Ric Flair.

Looks like a wrestling game I would have enjoyed on NES. Interesting.
Wow! Incredible!
UWC = Ultimate Wrestling Champions
@Quarth I read that in the voice of the Smash announcer when you beat Classic on 9.0.
Holy cow. This actually doesn't look that bad! I love seeing new games that were unreleased on older systems. Perhaps because it showcases some awesome skills that developers had back then, or maybe because I like to broaden my horizons with what could have been. I would love to see more footage from some secret unreleased SNES games!
Interesting how dormant games on older systems are being revealed after all these years.
On a side note props to the guy for releasing the ROMs to the public instead of charging for it.
It's a shame they cant release it through a service like PSN or Switch eShop. I would love to play this game
I think I will go with it is a game made by someone and is wanting it to be noticed and put it in a cartridge claiming what it is when it is not.
Nintendo would be all over this considering their whole rights thing as this even though now released would still be Nintendo property.
I call bs.
Beautiful Bobby Eaton! I don’t think he was ever payable in any other wrestling game outside of CAW’s.
@Dirty0814 I don’t think it’s Nintendo’s property. It sounds to me like it was a third party game submitted to Nintendo. I don’t think they care about some 30 year old game they don’t even own.
@Dirty0814 Keep in mind, SETA did just go under, and this wouldn't be the first unreleased game of theirs to show up since that happened. Could be a hoax still, but there's at least a reason it's showing up now.
Looks quite good. Shame it never came out.
@Not_Soos That's extremely fitting, because surely this unimaginable find is more incredible than that extraordinary feat?
"I've got this one of a kind game, I think I'll give it to a guy on YouTube instead of auctioning it for thousands of dollars!" Either a hoax or a very questionable choice.
An even more shocking story would have been "functional wrestling game discovered on Nintendo Switch"
Road Warrior Hawk versus Bobby Eaton! It's half the Road Warriors vs half the Midnight Express! Gonna be a slobberknocker!!
Woah! Cool finds like this are always super interesting to see.
@Dromosus
Ha! That’s true! Man, if they could only get the wrestling games from N64 rereleased as legacy content.
@rdrunner1178 That would be great but licensing would probably be a problem. I'd love some firepro on switch though.
@retro_player_22 Universal Wrestling Corporation.
It was the actual Business entity name that WCW operated under.
@daruncic
It wasn't given to him. He specifically said he bought it from someone that worked at Nintendo. I'm not saying that makes it legit, but money was exchanged for the cart.
Great find and looks like a decent game but its theme cannot top the pulsing chip-tune melody of Nintendo's Pro Wrestling!!
Interesting how the camera switches when out of the ring, and you’re then looking through the (now invisible) turnbuckle back at it. That was really visually confusing at first lol, but I know they did it for a cleaner look.
What an amazing find!
Pretty amazing!
Just want to shout out to WWF Warzone on the N64, what a time to be alive. Commentary by Vince McMahon and JR! The Rock from when he was a heel! Smashing big ole' CRT TVs over each other's heads! Perfectly executed.
Amazing how good it looks. Better than tye WWF games (that were alright for it's time) Gameplay looks as good as PRO WRESTLING & TECMO WRESTLING
Looks better than most indie games on the Switch
