One of the most intriguing games on the Switch's release schedule horizon is Ape Out, an ultra-violent smash 'em up that was originally planned to release next week. Sadly, the game has been delayed slightly, pushing its launch date back to 28th February.
The game is a wild mash-up of striking colours, frantic jazz music and inescapable violence, where players have to charge around destroying everyone in their path. You can build up momentum to cause even more destruction, using your captors to shield yourself from harm and cause more damage to others. In a nice touch, it even features a procedural music system which adapts as you play.
Devolver Digital's fittingly angry press release tells us that the delay has been implemented to "get 60 frames in each glorious second of the game", before going on to tell potential buyers exactly what they can do with the news:
"Consumers around the world can show their appreciation for a good old-fashioned delay by pre-ordering the game on Nintendo Switch to prove blind loyalty to frame rate."
If you wish to take them up on that lovingly crafted offer, you can pick it up on Switch for $14.99 / £10.99 / €14.99.

That kind of sucks. This really wouldn’t be a problem if consumers didn’t keep demanding for 60fps+.
Think the camera shaking would do my head in.
This is the one that had me the most interested from Alex's Feb 2019 upcoming games video.
While it's slightly unfortunate, I have so many games I'm currently playing between Switch and PS4, I don't mind the wait if it means they care about performance. Will most likely be picking this up regardless. I'm a sucker for creative rhythm games, especially since this one is jazz themed.
WOW, all that camera shaking is definitely no good for my epilepsy. Watching the advert alone made my head spin.
Having half a brain does me no good
I love that this game is "T for Teen", lol. The trailer alone had the gorilla murdering 100 people.
Love the look of this.
A 3 week delay for 60fps is a pretty good deal if you ask me.
This game oozes novelty and style. Too bad that, as has already been pointed out, it's not going to be for me due to how unpleasant to the senses it is. I had a similar experience with Electronic Super Joy on my friend's Xbox One and had to stop because it turns out (after a painful light-into-the-retinas eye exam) I'm pretty damn photosensitive. While lights are not in play here, the game is similarly hard to stomach for my eyeballs, albeit for different reasons.
Therefore, while admitting the game's strong points, it's a hard - as in, emotionally hard to define as such - pass for me.
@Dayton311
Don’t worry, they can just throw some breastfeeding in there, maybe some information on safe sex, pregnancy and stds, a couple of F-bombs, an accurate portrayel of drug addiction, and (most importantly) anything depicting the real cost of war and violence.
Instant “adults only”. 😂
Edit: Never fear, kids, any sort of freaky otaku sexually fetishized children stuff will get an “E” for everyone.
I will never understand how you throw a unfinished game out and then say oops well it was almost there...then wait for the inevitable day what patch to fix what they didn't in their bumbled first beta release, how old is this getting ?? Just stop already, if you're game isn't done then it isn't ready for release..let alone public consumption..
New echo DK character for Smash!
Oh my. I've never experienced the feeling I just felt with that camera shaking. I honestly don't think I could play this, as much as I want to.
Been really looking forward to this one since I found out about it. Feb. 28th is the first release date I ever heard for it, so I can hardly feel bad about the delay.
@AlexSora89 There's gotta be a way to disable either the screen sake or Extreme color usage. Otherwise, I don't think I could buy this myself.
@Reigestugatensho
Really, that kind of game really does a number on my eyes, mostly out of suggestion. It feels like this, all the time.
@AlexSora89 Oof I feel your pain...
@Reigestugatensho
I have, ironically enough, less problems with the flashy Kingdom Hearts games than smaller titles like this one.
