Video game accessory maker PDP is gearing up for the release of a brand new set of Pro Controllers for the Switch, inspired by the classic GameCube controller design.
Designed with the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in mind, these controllers aim to give you the edge in the game by making you feel right at home - throwing you headfirst into a state of GameCube-induced nostalgia. The controllers will no doubt suit those who are still entirely enamoured with Super Smash Bros. Melee the most, especially thanks to one neat little feature in particular.
Each design comes with the option for right stick customisation, allowing you to choose between the full-size stick usually found on the left-hand side of the controller, or the famous yellow 'C' stick from the original controller design. Both sticks are completely detachable, allowing you to switch between the two types depending on your preferred setup.
The controllers will be available to pre-order from PDP's website in the coming months and are scheduled to release in time for the holiday season - presumably at a similar time to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's launch date of 7th December.
Do you like these designs? Will you be keeping an eye out for these when they arrive later this year? Let us know your thoughts down below.

The customisable C-stick is very cool. I wonder if these will be better than the Hori ones announced the other day.
Wish the bottom of the
is yellow, instead of gray.
Not bad really, but not as customizable as I had hoped when I saw the tweet. I was hoping you could swap out the center logo as well... with many different choices. So since it was only the ability to change the c stick and other joystick, I’m left a little underwhelmed. Hopefully the quality is good at least. Never know with these 3rd part controllers. Probably better off sticking the official one...
Not a real pro controller without rear programmable buttons, but whatever floats your boat
All of these Gamecube controllers look nice, and this one fixes one of my gripes with the original, but they fall just short. Why? They're not wireless! At this point I'd kill for a GC-style wireless controller, with a decent d-pad and proper (yellow) second joystick.
That being said, these do look nice. Though it's starting to get crowded in here, between these, the Hori ones, and the first party Smash ones from Nintendo. Going to need some reviews to see which I get, if any, otherwise I'll stick to the Smash ones. Need some replacements for my GC/Wii setup.
The Hori controllers will probably be better and release a bit sooner, but might only be release in Japan.
Let's see how they shape up when the time comes though, I'll probably just stick to using the actual Gamecube controllers and the adapter I already have.
Would love the red mario one if it was wireless
God, theres a hell of a lot of GameCube controllers out there now.
But yet none are like the wavebird. Most people don't care about the tiny tiny teeny tiny lag with controllers which to be honest, doesn't exist now like it did maybe 15 years ago.
Release a wavebird update.
WIRELESS I WANT WIRELESS IS THAT SO HARD?!?!
Oooh....
I like that Blue Gamecube controller.
The wire is ten foot long!
@Appleflap Wireless is what we all want, I don't get it either.
I really don't get why none of these are wireless. I know I've said it repeatedly, but a wireless controller at least allows the choice of wired or wireless for when people are away from the dock and want to play games tabletop.
@DarkRula I feel the same way. Would be more expensive though. But I simply won't play with wired controllers no more.
All those casuals asking for wireless...
I want wireless and im no casual. Been gaming hard since atari 2600!!!
I am not at all familiar with PDP. If this were from 8BitDo, Hori or first party Nintendo, I'd be pretty interested, but who the heck are these guys? I suppose that not knowing is better than knowing and know I hate them. I used to have some MadCatz 3rd party controllers and they were trash... Ever since I have avoided anything from them.
Its wired... pass.
Beautiful.
Gah, they look ace, but why aren't they wireless?
Why aren't these wireless? It's hard to play anything on Switch dock mode with any wired controller due to fear of wired length shortages.
Everyone asking for a wireless controller can still buy a Wavebird and GC adapter, right? A Pro controller is a great option, too. Plus, the Pro controller has rumble and gryo.
I'm wondering where all this clamoring for wired gamecube controllers is coming from.
I don't like the idea I might break it. It's a great idea i'm sure but if something happens with it you won't be able to use them so bye bye controller. I rather to get a whole controller with all buttons strongly attached. with that said
Why that old fashioned controller so beloved? I missed many generation of Nintendo Systems.
@TF-Warrior
You could just take a yellow permanent marker and color the bottom of the stick, yellow. Just be super careful if you do it with the Mario or Link controller.
No interest in wired controllers anymore. Would want a wireless Gamecube style controller, but not one that mimics the design of the Wavebird. The Wavebird battery pack meant my fingers were too cramped.
@HobbitGamer The point is as I stated above. People want the option of using it even in tabletop mode, or even just docked without wires. Along with the full control-set of the pro. It's not so much wanting a Gamecube controller, it that's many people find the button layout of the GCN controller the best and would rather have that adapted for modern use.
@Francema we love it because it's nearly perfect! Every button has a different feel so there was never a reason to look down. A being the center with B, X,Y around the A button made things easier to navigate. Buttons aside, the overall shape of the GameCube controller forms well with the hands. It's the most comfortable controller of all time.
Just what I wanted
Best Buy has a pre order up for the official Nintendo brand GameCube controller adapter. I’ll just pre order that and use my wavebird/GameCube controllers!

@Regpuppy Have you checked out hyperkins?

I got it back for the WiiU to use on GameCube Ports and MarioKart, because you couldn't use a GameCube controller as a ProController back then. Asking for a good D-pad on a GameCube controller is something that probably will never happen though. It also doesn't have the classic shoulder buttons.
(My mobile will always act weird when commenting on NL, so excuse any random words put into places or poor autocorrect)
@J_C Thanks for suggestion! But yeah, tried a friends ProCube and something just felt off about it. To the point where I'd rather deal with a wire. I especially didn't like the shoulder buttons. Not that it's a bad option for everyone.
Also, yeah, the rational part of me realizes I won't get everything I want. At this point I'd accept a Switch pro-controller with a proper non-squishy D-pad, because that's the biggest problem I have with it. I've just been holding off for a special edition I liked.
Might get the Hori or PDP GC controllers in the meantime, since they can at least function on all Switch games, and would be perfect for having family over. It would be a nice throwback to when we used to play Brawl, melee, and 6 different Mario Party games on the Wii. Lol
I wonder why they dont make some wireless too. For both ”casulas” and competitive smash-players. I’d love one if it was wireless, i hate to put any wires to the switch as it’s so light I might drop the dock.
@LightyKD Thanks. Makes sense to me now!! These looks a bit cheap though, maybe the Hori ones are better.
@Francema
The last time Hori and PDP made GCN-inspired controllers, Hori was waay better.
They should have detachable wires to be truly customizable. Allows for lower input times, but allows people to play wireless for convenience, giving casual players and competitive players their preferences. The C stick thing is nice. If the triggers are digital though, I'll just pass. The Switch pro controller is a modern design and has the NFC reader and rumble and are wireless.
Also the Zelda one looks ugly.
I have a wave bird and my OG gamecube controller wired, so I don't feel the need to buy these things unless they give me something modern.
@hirokun I like your idea but let's do a compromise. Some of you may be familiar with Power A's Switch controllers and know this but, the Power A pads feature a USB port. In order for the controllers to work, you have to plug the micro end of a USB cable to the controller and the standard end to the dock. Now if these GameCube controllers had the same setup, some enterprising company could just make wireless dongles for the dock with USB power pack/dongle connectors for the controller end. That way. Hori, Power A, PDP and smash tournaments get their wired controllers while other gamers get the option to unplug the cables and replace with wireless dongles.
Does it also come with the fondant decoration removed?
Nintendo is doing a lot of these lately, first with Hori and now with PDP (again).
Hey NL, are you aware Nintendo also teamed up with PowerA for these really slick looking controllers that comes in Mario, Peach, Zelda and Metroid design?

Why is the Zelda one blue and not green?
Pikachu = yellow!
Mario = red!
Zelda = hmm, what about... baby blue? :/
I swapped out the sticks on my N64 controllers for sticks like that. They work surprisingly well.
Do they have accelerometers and rumble?
I would really like to have Gamecube controllers, but I only buy controllers with gyro sensor and HD rumble.
All of them are fugly
@molliolli182 they dont want people use it on their blue tooth on PC. It's kinda blocking i'm sure
Nevermind collecting all the amiibo, collecting all the 3rd party gamecube controllers for Smash 4 and Ultimate's where its at. XD
@JoakimZ What color is Link's tunic in Breath of the Wild? Once you answer that, you will have the answer to your question.
@SmaggTheSmug I know this was probably said tongue in cheek but honestly wired controllers have almost no market in gaming these days. Sure it's super long but that's just one more hassle having to wind it around a controller or tuck it away somewhere neatly. People don't want to be bothered with it, that's why wireless was invented. Wired is no longer practical or convenient today. And I really don't understand why they don't at least make it wireless with the option of a wire that can be plugged into it if people desire that old school authenticity.
@Baker1000 Only a bit. Progamers only use wired because they want as little input lag as possible, and GameCube controllers are most likely aimed at them. Also a wired controller has the advantage of not dying on you mid-game due to battery. Not to mention is less heavy.
@SmaggTheSmug they could offer a wired and wireless version though. I guess the wired version wouldn't shift many but for those who want it, it'll be there. There shouldn't be a problem with wireless controllers dying if you keep them charged though. You only have to worry about that if you play for hours on end, and even then you could charge while you play.
