Sega has released a new trailer for the upcoming Valkyria Chronicles 4, which launches on Switch later this year.
The trailer focuses primarily on the game's combat system, which looks set to build on the good work seen in the previous titles. It's also clear from the footage that this sequel will benefit from much larger maps, as well as enhanced visual effects such as weather, dust and gunfire.
In terms of mechanics, things look very similar to what has gone before, but the trailer does show off one significant new feature - the ability of armoured transports to pick up soldiers - all set to Hitoshi Sakimoto's gorgeous soundtrack from the first game.
Valkyria Chronicles 4 launches on Switch and PS4 in Japan on March 21st, with a worldwide release - which also include the Xbox One - coming later in the year.

This is absolutely a day one buy for me. I’m missing this in my life...
Anyone know if Japanese version will have English subs and text?
Man! That's great. I had no idea about this game coming to Switch. And in two weeks?! Nice!
uhh... i hate to break it to you guys. but this game is due to released in summer 2018 for switch. and March 21, 2018 only on PS4.

Never played a game in this series. Hopefully it comes with a demo so I can try it out.
OMG, I had missed that this was coming to Switch! I'm so happy. I loved the first one (2nd was OK, but so gimped by being on PSP). Had been wondering how I would ever find time to play it on PS4.
@abbyhitter You can nab the original on Steam for pretty cheap during sales. I bought it for $4, I think. And it's close to becoming my favorite tactical RPG.
I will pick this up, does anybody else also want a new advance war game?
Now this I like.
Can't stop thinking "Fire Emblem and Valkyria Chronicles on the same console"!!!
Incredibly excited for the game. I'll be getting this for Switch unless the reviews say the Switch version is significantly inferior. Portability is a stronger selling point than graphics for me with this series. I really wish Sega would formally release VC 3 in English in some fashion. It's by far my favorite entry in the series, and I wish more people could experience it.
I played some of the first one on PS3, what I played was excellent. Can't wait for this game.
Love the first on playstation. Played the second on ps vita. No western release for the third. 😣.
Will play this one on the switch. Happy times.
This is great were going to have more strategy games on the Switch.
@bstie1198 I would love to see VC3 in English also like see the VC trilogy on the Switch as well.
Oh man, I didn't know it was coming this soon. Now I really have to get cracking and finish Mario+Rabbids.
This looks lovely.
I think this might be my most anticipated game of the year after that video. I want it now.
This looks pretty awesome. Is it a game series that you need to play the others before this one though?
Fire Emblem
Valkyria Chronicles
Mario Rabbids
Same console. Let that sink in...
Didn't except this so soon, but i'm not complaining Wonder why eShop does not tell this coming yet.
E: In Japan, just noticed, well good can be wait.
I'm just a bit down seeing how little the series evolved from previous entries. But is good that they got rid of all the teenager nonsense of the second one, though. People, if you are into tactical RPGs Valkyria series are mint!
@JaxonH Now we just need a new Tactics Ogre to call it Perfect!
It was a very pleasant surprise when this was announced for Switch. I am looking forward to it for sure!
The first game, which I played on PS3 long ago, is one of my favorite games of all time. Sadly, I wasn’t as big of a fan regarding the sequels being on PSP. I hope this upcoming game recaptures some of the magic for me!
@Cronopi If I recall correctly, one review of VC2 referred to it as “Saving Private Ryan meets Saved By the Bell.”
@MagicEmperor That's actually a pretty accurate description! VC2 was really... not so good, which made VC3 not be released in the West. Which is unfortunate, because it is a FAR better series entry in every way. At least VC4 is finally making a return for the series!
Yep, definitely another good reason to get a Switch for RPG fans! I'm still going to wait on SMT5 and such, though... library should be nice and bulky by then.
@PlywoodStick Haha! Yep, I played VC2. I LOVE the first game, but the sequel... erm... Just my opinion, but I kept expecting VC2 to go, “Nah, I’m just messing with ya! Here’s the REAL true-blue sequel!” I never did play the third game, because of that reason. Hopefully I will... someday.
Hyped!!!
I still think it's a business mistake to call it 4 tho.
Yes yes yes! I forgot this was coming to the Switch I had just figured I would get it for the PS4, but this is the sort of game that’s much better to have on the go.
I have been going since it’s inception that the Switch would be the go to for RPGs, this year seems to be a good start.
Never played a VC game before... this looks like it plays like Steamworld Heist in 3D. Am I far off? I see what appear to some real time elements with the tank thing, but otherwise everything seems to be largely turn based.
It's been a long time since I've played Valkyria Chronicles, I'm excited to dive back in.
In excited for this game, but I won't really be playing it on the Switch this month seeing as it only releases on PS4 now and on Switch in the summer.
