Unless you've been living under a rock for the past year then the name PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds should be familiar to you, even if you've not played the game.
This online shooter has become one of gaming's hottest properties and has millions of active players. The team behind it, Bluehole, has revealed that it is working on a new IP that will be released for Switch as well as the PlayStation 4 (and yes, we know this was announced a few days ago but we've been so hammered by the flood of new Switch games that we didn't notice it).
Information is thin on the ground at present, but it has been confirmed that the game will be aimed at the Asian market, and that development is in the very early stages.

Interesting. I wonder if it is something with the same concept but based on an older time periods weapons... I doubt it, but I'm curious.
@crackafreeze Same here. While I have heard of the game I had no idea how popular it was.
@crackafreeze @brandonbwii Living under a rock too! We must have a community we don't know about
Never heard of it, but never really been a fan of shooters, except N64 Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and Halflife
Rocks are cool.
Hopefully it will be a good game, and will be available for US and Europe.
This game (PUBG) is beyond popular, and shows how you don't need Uber next generation level graphics to make a good game.
PUBG seem like one of those weird games that comes across as being both popular and hated at the same time... it's a simple concept that looks pretty fun, but I've seen a lot of glitches and luck appears to play a larger role than it really should.
As for their new project... I can't help but think of Battle Royale.
@DragonEleven PUBG is pretty much like Battle Royale just with adults instead of kids
I have a feeling more people have probably come across the game as PUBG than the full name. I really only paid attention when I saw it was up for GOTY at the Game Awards.
The reason I like PUBG is the same reason I like Eventide Island. It's the experience of starting with nothing and slowly building yourself up until you conquer the island so to speak
It could well be something based on PUBG I know Microsoft has the exclusive rights for a console version so with you saying PS4 and Switch it could be something similar just a way of getting around an exclusivity deal I suppose although it could be something entirely different
@NapalmPsalm that's an interesting idea! Like a "for honor" setting but in a Battleground game mode? Melee with just a few ranged options for bows/crossbows?
Under a rock is right. Beat everyone (BF, Destiny, Fifa, Splatoon) for Best Multiplayer Game at Golden JoyStick awards. And it still in Preview with 1 map.
Lots of fun with 4 friends - your team plans can go sideways in a heartbeat (sometimes just in the time from jumping out of the plane to hitting the ground) lol!
Interesting to see what they make. Nintendo really needs to fix online soon.
I'm not actually Asian though. Is that gonna be a problem? I mean, it seems kinda racialist - why can't it be aimed at the pasty Brits too?
Don't get me wrong though, I think I could pull Asian off...
Shame that Fortnite hasnt made its way to the Switch. Hoping thats its due to the paid early access of the pve mode and it will come over when the game goes fully free to play.
Its the only game that pulls me away from the Switch at the moment.
I think PUBG has a great premise, but the gameplay is 100% not for me. Which is why I find it hard to get too excited about this news, but hey, fingers crossed for something cool.
Lol, PUBG isn't just popular, it's the new Counter-Strike, the number one played game on Steam at any given point in time by far. Only very large MMO's have a larger simultaneous player base running at once. And that was months ago, it's still growing. It will never show up on NS, it's too demanding in more ways than one. And it has hard core difficulty compared to something like Splatoon, which is very casual by comparison.
Interesting that they're targeting the Asian market, I guess they're not convinced any console platform can catch up with PC numbers in the West. (And they're right.)
@PlywoodStick It is demanding because of bad optimalisation. The PC version runs crap too. The devs are going to roll out the 1.0 update soon, but I don't think it's going to feel like a complete game.
I'm really curious how their e-Sports is going to work.
I don't think anybody should get any ideas about this title being like PUBG's gameplay/concept.
They've also got another (not the Switch one) game that's a steampunk MMO.
Under a rock as well.
Speaking of Asian market, don't forget Arena of Valor is coming later this year.
"PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Studio"
"Aimed at the Asian market, apparently"
Must be a video game adaptation of Battle Royale...

I have no interest really in PUBG so if it is something like that, pass.
That said, more 3rd party support is a good thing.
Heard of player unknowns battle grounds along time ago and I hope they don’t mean they’re only releasing the new ip in asian countries
Super Mario Battlegrounds, hey it could happen, Mario + Rabbids gave Mario and the rest of em' guns
Another under rock here. Must be a really big rock.
@Bunkerneath I thought under that rock was a bit crowded!! 😂😂 never heard of it and I’m on the gaming sites daily!! Wow
I don't know why this is supposed to excite me, they have yet to even come close to a bug free beta, let alone alpha, and we are supposed to be excited about a new IP that could be literally anything unrelated to PUBG.
@Saego Yeah, it's still in early access, so it's not optimized yet. Still pretty amazing that in it's incomplete state, it's by far one of the most simultaneously played games on the planet at any current point in time.
Hmmm mildly interested.
