We're into the final few weeks before the festive season - that's another month of shopping before some much needed downtime to wrap up the year. Nintendo's had a fantastic 2017 with the launch of the Switch, and is naturally hoping to finish it strongly.
Perhaps due to the different shopping habits in Japan - some of the biggest Japanese hardware sales come in December, whereas the 'Black Friday' phenomenon makes November the big month in various Western territories - Nintendo is just now pushing a major new ad campaign for the Switch in its homeland. The festive-themed trailers show people enjoying the Switch in various ways, wrapping up with a festive get-together.
They're arguably a bit cheesy - we're not sure about the song, frankly - but they do get the job done. The first focuses on young gamers and their families, while the second shifts to trendy young adults. Check them out below.
Do you like these Japanese commercials for the Nintendo Switch?

I don't know what it is, but I always seem to enjoy Nintendo's Christmas commercials!
Time for a December NINTENDO DIRECT to tell us all about Nintendo Online Subscription and all the new stuff you can buy for SWITCH the day after XMAS!
Haha that song is terrible. But I’m sure it seems cool to people that don’t really speak English but recognize enough fun English phrases to find the song enjoyable.
Not bad.
But right now, I just wanna play some Resident Evil Revelations on Switch. Gosh dang Capcom lit it on fire with this one. RAID mode here I come!
Joy Con Bells, Joy Con Bells, HD Rumble All the Way
Oh what fun it is to shoot Bokoblins in the face, HEY!
Okay... 2 different commercials.
One is for Kids, one is for Young adults.
My comments :
Kids : Minecraft on commercial ? Well, better Nintendo put Dragon Quest Builder or Portal Knights.
Young Adult : FIFA again ?? Why don't Baseball for Switch ??
The short Japanese voice over at the end is saying "Anytime, anywhere, with anyone. Nintendo Swiitch."
Nintendo still doing EA's job for them
Cheesy??? You might be expecting too much (or too little)...
The song? It is quite suitable for the purpose of the clips: cheerful, festive, getting the joyful feeling perfectly across.
The clips themselves are really well done. Besides the fact that Nintendo is promoting Nintendo ('s newest wonder), the company is also saying: hey, games are cool and all but they sure as hell do not replace traveling, getting together, playing sports, visiting family, enjoying meals, or having foreigner friends. Healthy relationships can benefit from quality gaming.
The closing is fantastic, いつでも,どこでも,だれとでも. anytime, anywhere, with everyone.
Cheesy? I do not think so. I find "Hey there lovely people, it's Alex from NintendoLife here" quite more so...
The song is a bit cheesy, but i love that if you listen closely to the last half of the song you can hear the theme from arms under the song!
@Anti-Matter because the whole world loves soccer and baseball is a niche sport.
@SanderEvers @okeribok
If me, i would rather choose Baseball than lousy soccer sport.
@Anti-Matter thank god it's not up to you.
I would've chosen monopoly 😉
A nintendo family orientated commercial that’s actually good? Awesome!
Someone should buy that child a protective case, his Switch wont last 5 minutes the way he slings it into that bag, ungrateful little so and so. No sense of value the youth today.
And how on earth did that band of miscreants stay up all night playing Switch with only one small bottle of water between them? I await the Ridley Scott directors cut, which shows them in preparation for a hard gaming session by juicing up on some high glucose Mario Cereal.
@Anti-Matter The only important Baseball game today is the MLB The Show series, and that is a Sony first party exclusive. Every other Baseball franchise failed and it's dead sadly.
I just want some Xenoblade this christmas
How to Write a Christmas Number One:
Take the opening bars from a nostalgia-tinged town theme.
...Wait.
Throw in every inane, feel-good lyric from American pop music in the last 30 years and GET THE PARTY STARTED!
@BensonUii @elreins
Haha leave @AlexOlney catchphrase alone! It is very British, it's basically ironic as is his general sense of humour. It's cheesy but in a self aware way.
The second one is kinda creepy though. With the slow motion screaming.
@Oscarzxn
The Only Baseball games that caught my interest just only these :
I have NO Interest with Realistic Baseball games whatsoever.
I prefer Cartoonish Baseball games with Power Up System.
@Anti-Matter so there's only one baseball game that caught your interest and that's on the Wii and you wanted Nintendo to show that in the commercial. I'm glad Nintendo didn't show off a Wii game on the Nintendo switch commercial 😉
(NintendoLife says:"They're arguably a bit cheesy".) Nope. They are very well made.
That looks nice. Wish I had friends who played video games. Haha.
They gave Fifa a highlight. They should at least show RBI Baseball 17, the 7th best sport game on Switch.
@1UP_MARIO
Well, too bad.
There is no more games like Little League World series anymore.
The last series was the 2010 edition on ps3 & xbox360, and that was worse than 2008 / 2009 edition on Wii.
But these Baseball games from Konami, even though looked cute, but still couldn't impressed me. Still not convinced enough.
@jancotianno
And Nintendo should promote a New Boxing games for Switch.
That genre is Very Rare to be talked about.
I believe the success of ARMS could inspire developers to create Boxing games with JoyCons motion play.
But, i don't want UFC.
No no no no.....
@Anti-Matter Nintendo needs to promote their games that will most likely sell well to the masses. Baseball doesn't sell that well and is quite niche. Remember Nintendo needs money to run so they will follow the money not the games you like 😉
PS4’s holiday message: Strap your ass to the couch, you’re not going anywhere.
I was saying to my wife last night how I liked these commercials and wished that Nintendo would do something similar to them in the USA.
Theyre so sweet.
Really hope to see more tv switch ads here in uk
Pretty cool.
@okeribok @SanderEvers @1UP_MARIO But the commercial only airs in Japan, where baseball is the most popular sport in the country.
Soccer/futball is like the equivalent to Hockey in America. It's popular, but no where in the same league as NFL and Basketball in America.
@jbopatrick oh? Ok. Well, Nintendo thinks they should start liking soccer
