Tank Troopers was something of a surprise announcement during 2016, with Nintendo showing it off for the first time in September's Nintendo Direct broadcast. The game isn't out until next year in the west, but it launched today in Japan for 800 Yen and our friend NintenDaan has duly recorded some footage.

While the game's focus is offline and online multiplayer battles in tanks armed with unusual weapons such as freeze shots and paintballs, Tank Troopers also has a single-player mode. It reminds us a bit of Steel Diver: Sub Wars.

Check out the footage and let us know if you're excited about playing this game next year - or if you're already playing it on your Japanese 3DS.
