It wasn’t long ago a video starring legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk alongside the Doc from Back to the Future and a cast of others emerged online, showing the unveiling of the first-ever “real life” hoverboard.
Shortly after the video went viral, the entire reveal – as many expected – was confirmed by the Hawk himself as a cruel but obvious prank, and that it was actually just a fun attention-seeking marketing ploy by company HUVr Tech.
This latest advancement in hoverboard technology though is completely legitimate, bringing humanity just a little bit closer to the real deal – well, sort of.
By linking the Wii Balance Board with a VR headset and demo, indie developer Cratesmith has been able to recreate a scene from Back To The Future: Part 2, incorporating the iconic hoverboard.
Unfortunately, the whole setup is still in testing, but the developer has teased that it may make it publicly available soon. In the meantime, check it out in action below.

Neat. Not my kind of thing though, I hope we can one day have a racing game using the steering wheel that incorporates VR. That could also be used as a drunk driving simulator, depicting realistic crashes and what not.
Very interesting- were there actually any Wii games which incorporated the balance board in successful experimental ideas, such as this? A super fast hover board game in the likeness of extreme g with big roller coaster tracks would be fantastic.
More wall breaking games please Nintendo! Make em awesome! What can you bloody well lose?!
The concept is there, looks like it could turn out to be a ton of fun. A chase scene that sends Biff into a manure truck at the end would be a blast. Looking forward to see if this ever goes anywhere.
@ajcismo I HATE manure!!!!
I question the safety of using the Balance Board while wearing this device. Still, points for tossing this together instead of just using an old game.
I really enjoy the snowboarding games I have for Wii that use the Balance Board. I find it more enjoyable to steer with my body the skis and snowboards than with an analog sick.
As for the topic at hand, I can see Sony coming out with their item balance board if their VR headset becomes successful.
The balance board is awesome
And all my dreams are now coming true
Now if we could just get our flying cars...without the danger of the engine stalling in midair...or someone needing to invent flubber.
