Ubisoft has launched a companion app for its most recent entry in the Assassin's Creed series, Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag. The app is available for download on both iOS and Android devices, giving gamers a more immersive experience in Edward Kenway's Caribbean adventure.
The second screen has many features including an Interactive World Map, which allows you to set waypoints when looking for treasure, and view your mission objectives in real-time; you can also get your friends to hop on board your journey as they take on the role of your quartermaster using the app.
Kenway's Fleet is a component designed for use when you're not playing the main game on your console. Ships captured in-game can be sent to Kenway's Fleet and then sent forth into battle, collect cargo and currency and complete additional missions.
All of your game's data including mission progress and current game status is stored on the Progress Tracker. Treasure maps found are stored in the app, allowing you to analyse them and determine where you've to travel next to find the hidden treasure.
Watch the video below if you want to know more about this tool, which has been confirmed for use with the Wii U version of the game. The title is currently out in North America, and will land on European shores for Wii U on 22nd November.

Couldn't they just make the Wii U version of that app launched from the Wii U main menu and playable on the Gamepad?
@rjejr My thoughts exactly.
So does this mean that the Wii U gets a third screen experience?
We all know three screens are better than two!
@rjejr that make the wii u option in a unique experience, and they don't want that.

@mercurio2054 They already do if the Wii U can use 3 screens now.
Still need to get this game! Black Friday is coming up soon though! I wish they would update the Call of Duty app on iOS to support WiiU though.
@rjejr I think the best function that could of used the gamepad for was it to simple have the Treasure Maps displayed on the Gamepad so you could reference it while still playing.
Seriously, is there anything more annoying than checking your phone while playing games?
Anyway, the crazy thing is the average phone won't provide a big enough map to just glance at, unless you keep it in your lap the whole time. Doesn't even seem remotely useful.
@ACK Last I checked a couple days ago, it's only available for tablets, with smart phone support coming.
@willobee OK, that makes more sense than squinting at a phone screen... However, it just makes the app all the more pointless. The tablet market is much smaller and it seems even more obtrusive to have a tablet next to me while I game.
@ACK - Better not get a Wii U, you'll have a tablet in your lap the whole time
I think this is meant as a companion app, something to do at work, or during your mass transit commute, not to do while you're playing the console game. That's the way I read it anyway.
MS probably just paid them to do this so somebody would buy a Surface.
