Od, how do you know there are 6 levels? Did someone online post it? Or is there something on the title screen that I'm completely missing?

@iphys Different enemies need to be hit different numbers of times, and the upgrades do make it take less shots. You don't need to shoot them to any real "beat," a la collecting the black dots in Void.

So far it seems really awesome. I'll admit I'm a bit disspointed, but I just set my expectations waaaaay to high becayse of my extreme love for Runner. I made it past level 1 on my first try (in Nether, but still), but I'm having quite a bit of trouble with the level 2 boss. Definetely not as good Runner (IMO), but (as far as I can tell), better than the other 3 IMO.

By the way, I just looked at the names of the songs on the soundtrack. That's gettin' me excited.

i love this game so far, more so than runner. it makes me think of sin and punishment on the atari with a healthy dose of acid thrown into the mix. those of you using the classic controller are missing out, the wiimote rules for games like this.

I tried with the Classic Controller, and it's way harder to aim directly at the enemies, so I think the Wiimote is the way to go.

Beat the first level, and I like it a lot so far, especially the music. Only tried out the wiimote, and I doubt I'll be trying the CC anytime soon.

I'm going to give the wiimote option a chance soon.

So far, the Classic Controller has worked very well for me. I am setting the controller on my lap, and holding the sticks very lightly between my thumbs and index fingers. This allows a greater range of precision, and also keeps the sticks from wedging into the 8 way guide that is built into the controller at the extremes of movement.

I'll (try) the Wiimote next time

i'm amazed you guys started with anything else! it's simplifies everything so much for games that require independent movement and aiming for each hand. i learned that lesson when i tried sin and punishment 2 with the CCpro, and shan't be making it again anytime soon. and if you think otherwise you can go shan't yourself.

back to the game, one thing that's bugged me a few times is that you'll want to press up or down to move along the rail but it only responds to left-right movement. it's one of those things you have to get used to i guess.

when it comes to killing bad guys, they'll die after being hit a certain number of times, but they don't actually explode until the beat. if you watch carefully you'll see that they stop moving once being delivered enough hits, so you can then ignore them and move on to the next and they'll blow up on their own. time to try the level 2 boss again...

Thanks for the advice -- been very confused about why it sometimes seems to take so much more damage for things to die and why they only seem to die on beats.

I don't know why they couldn't also recognize up/down for the rails -- so annoying when you're playing a boss on a steep rail and you have to hit left/right when you're thinking up/down.

The level 2 boss gave me a really hard time because it was so hard to even look at it with all the junk you have to watch to avoid, so it's hard to see what actually damages it. The level 3 boss was a complete joke after that. Now the level 4 boss is giving me problems.

@romulux: good to know, thanks! that'll save me some time; i'd noticed they explode on the beats but thought i had to keep shooting them until then.

@iphys: i'm with you -- that second boss was a pain in the tail because i kept wanting to hit up/down instead of left/right. i wound up having to turn my hand sideways with the nunchuk just to remember which directions to hit. :/

anyway, it took me some time to get used to Commander Video having only his core as a vulnerable spot -- just keep that little red patch from being struck by anything and he won't get hurt.

not sure yet whether i prefer Commandgirl Video or Junior Melchion most as a helper. i know Meat Boy helps with bigger, stronger blasts, but i can't say that i'm a fan. it just seems so slow compared to the other helpers.

also, i haven't tried the CC yet because the Wiimote/Nunchuk combo is working out quite well for me, really. i like the freedom of arm movement it offers :3 i like got through to Level 3 yesterday, and i'll probably continue on after work today. i really do hate shooters, but this one's pretty fun so far :3

Aaaaaaaaagh I got this close to beating the level 2 boss today but now I have to homework, lol. Still seeing beats in my head, though.

i didn't have any problems adjusting to left/right instead of up/down, and man oh man is the wiimote much better, thanks rom and iphys

Oh yeah and CommandgirlVideo FTW!!

Yesterday I beat level 3, but I haven't attempted level 4 yet. I actually like Meat Boy the best as a helper, the reason is that his lasers actually destroy enemy bullets, so effectively it is a shield and a gun.

finally got it today...made it to level 4 before I died. I'm enjoying it so far, but as expected the rails can be kind of a pain for effectively dodging. Definitely an interesting concept though--so far I'm enjoying it more than Runner, but I've only put maybe 35 minutes into it.

It seems like it's set up like the first three (with three levels), except they have separated the levels for bosses, and to make it easier. 1 had an easier boss, 2 was harder, 3 was easier, 4 was harder. I imagine 5 and six work the same way as well. And the music from 1+2 are very similar, and same with 3+4. So I'm sure that's how they set it up.

Loving it by the way. Giga mode is awesome, and it feels that CV is in his most vulnerable state in the series, seeing as he goes down a level after every hit. Yet he is also the most powerful he's ever been. I guess that's what anger does to you.

this is why i love the B.T series -- everyone has their own way of interpreting its elements. i hadn't even thought of it that way before. :3

also, Giga mode is definitely good times.

Giga is mind-blowing, agreed.

I think that the open-ended messages are an integral facet of the series as well. My interpretation so far is that CV is blinded by his passion in this installment; he wants to destroy Mingrawn Timbletot so much that he will also obliterate anything that gets in his way, regardless if he is invading his "enemies'" natural habitat and provoking them. Especially with that first boss, who seems confused as to why he is fighting CV. It makes you wonder what would happen if CommanderVideo tried to work together with the things he is killing instead of doing just that. Another theory is that the adversaries in this game are being possessed by Mingrawn and have no choice but to attack CV. Maybe they are asking for help if only he'd just listen.

Anyway, I swear these games have the best story ever.

Woah, reading those things about what this game "really means" was kind of amazing. All of them could be right as Gaijin has regularly stated this game is supposed to explore the darker sides of the Bit.Trip series. Od has a good point. What are all these enemies? What are they doing there? Why is CV fighting them? Did Mingrawn aquire a bunch of minions that he's sent into space to shoot bits at CV? Or is something else going on? Hard to say.

I finally got past level 2 and am at level 4 now. Level 3 was relatively easy but level 4 is quite hard so far. I've made it to the boss but not very far into the boss before he killed me. It seems like each 2 levels kind of represent one (longer than usual) level in Beat/Core/Void, but with a mini-boss tossed in halfway through. I'm lovin it though.

By the way, JUST Giga mind blowing? Try Giga with CommandgirlVideo as a helper!
