Topic: GameCube Adapter could lead to Gamecube games on WiiU?

With the release of the GameCube Adapter, you think that Nintendo would be wise enough to bring out an update for the Wii channel that would allow users to play GameCube games on their WiiU? Maybe even bring out GameCube games on the virtual console? I can only see this happening through unofficial means but then again, people kept saying that Majora's Mask on 3DS would never happen. On the other hand though, I'm still waiting on Gameboy Advance games for the 3DS...

I hope so, but i doubt it...

GameCube VC is more likely. The Wii U doesn't have memeory card ports, so you can't play GCN games from the disc, not to mention, that it won't even fit, because they're smaller than Wii/Wii U discs.

the disc sizes didn't stop the GameCube games working on the original Wii. I can get that Memory Cards would be an issue but looking at other consoles such as the early Ps3's that could allow you to play PsOne and Ps2 games, its reasonable to assume that this can be fixed so that the memory can be saved in the hard drive rather than a memory card. I dunno, I'm not an expert in programming

GameCube games fit in the Wii U's disc drive. Whether or not it can read them is another matter, but they at least prepared for the possibility that someone might try (As they did on the pre Wii Mini revision of the Wii that stripped out GCN compatibility). Speculation generally leans towards it not being able to. But in the absence of any technical data on the matter, we really don't know.

Virtual memory shouldn't be an issue. And they could even accommodate original memory cards through a USB adapter for the transfer of saves like we've seen on the PS3 for PS1/PS2 memory cards.

But if compatibility with GCN discs was going to happen, it would've been present on day 1. There's nothing in it for Nintendo to introduce the feature two years in for the Wii U, enabling compatibility for a system that has been discontinued for nearly a decade now. So it's hard to believe that they'd do anything to implement such functionality.

Even digital downloads are starting to look remote despite most folks betting early on that Nintendo would start selling digital GCN and Wii downloads on the Wii U.

Maybe they could even release the adapter to use SD cards as GameCube memory cards, that they were supposed to release in 2001.

Not bringing out the VC/remakes you want is Nintendo punishing you for selling your old systems

I do not know about the adapter being compatible, but is high time Gamecube Games were put on Virtual Console.
Some ideas
1. Super Mario Sunshine
2. Luigi's Mansion
3. Super Smash Bros. Melee
4. Pikmin
5. Pikmin 2
6. Metroid Prime
7. Metroid Prime 2
8. Star Fox Adventures
9. F-Zero GX
10. Resident Evil 4
11. Mario Kart: Double Dash!!

That would be good and you don't need the adapter given the officially licensed Hori fight pads would likely also be a good option even if you just needed to remap the buttons.

I don't see why the two would be linked; the fight pad is a GC that will satisfy the purists and button remapping will likely work for everyone else.

I think the bigger barrier will be Nintendo's apparent liking of these HD upgrades, but you'd think they'd do it for third parties at least.

I don't think there's a point in bringing the Gamecube games to the VC now. They can bring it later on with future consoles (i.e., the next console will not be backward compatible with Wii and will have both Gamecube and Wii VC). It works best with the original controller and not many will have the adapter anyway. It's not like they brought all the other VC games already, and the best Gamecube games they can also do remakes. Maybe it's just because I enjoy the Gamecube on my Wii and I bought so many used Gamecube games that I just don't need this VC.

I didn't. I have a Wii and I bought the best Gamecube games for it. Not sure what you think I'm kidding about.

You forgot about the Zelda franchise, another reason why GCN downloads wouldn't be quite as useful as they otherwise might've been. Wind Waker has a HD remaster on the system and via Wii backwards compatibility, Twilight Princess can also be enjoyed on this system thanks to appearing on both generations of Nintendo hardware back in 2006.

So those that want to enjoy the main Zelda entries from the GameCube era also have avenues already available on the Wii U to access that material.

Seeing as how little adapters Nintendo made I'd say we're not gonna see GC VC any time soon.

Either that or Nintendo better make some more adapters pronto.

Or hopefully some other company clones them and makes an equivalent. Obviously, there's a demand despite its limited usefulness.

If the Wii U is physically capable of playing GameCube games then really all Nintendo would need to do now is create a "GameCube Mode" that emulates the memory card slots and either uses the GC adapter and/or CC Pro (which would include the fight pad) for input. I suspect VC and remakes will be their preferred route though as they get to re-sell you the games.

I would buy Super Smash Bros Melee with a few Alterations (Like it will take 300 VS Matches to unlock all the characters) for 50 Bucks on the Wii U VC. I am serious about it.
