Oh yeah, I forgot about Spring Mario. He sucks.

Also, the purple coin levels that are on rails (so to speak) are agonizing with Luigi's slippery soles. Miss a #@$#@%@#$ coin and the whole level is ruined. Ruined I tells ya!

you aren't kidding. it's a good thing I love the heck outta that song they use for those levels/stars, though... it's one of my favorites on the entire OST. :3

and Spring Mario/Luigi... i got alllllll the way up onto the top of that beach level with the purple coins with that freaking thing, I was bouncing around the part with the little hills around the small pool of water, and I thought to myself, 'no, i'll just keep the spring suit on so that I don't have to go back and get it again to get to the very top'... and then the next freaking coin I got, I misjudged my spring and ended up springing my way out into the open air. definitely a very FML moment for me.

also, @Adam: i know the bee suit was reused for the purple coin star in the beach galaxy that's a giant circle (there's a couple of races held there, and the prankster comet gives you a cosmic mario/luigi race), there was another galaxy where you had to use either the bee suit or the ghost suit to get through an obstacle course, and I think there was a one-star galaxy that used it, too.

The one-star galaxies ruled, and I loved all the comet challenges. I didn't find the purple coins as difficult as one or two of the races, but it could just be memory playing tricks on me.

The timing could not be more perfect for this thread.

I just got this game Saturday here in the US, and I recommend buying. I'm roughly 26 Stars into it, I can say that I will finish this game to 121 completion. It's on the easy side. However, I did find some challenges here and there.

I can't really say much as I'm only 26 Stars in, of course. It's just great.

The first 20 stars or so were a bit dull to get but after that the game suddenly stood out to be excellent.

I've completed it with Mario and now have about 70-80 stars with Luigi. The last time I played it was about 6 months ago or so... I just can't handle the fact that I have to play that one Cosmic Luigi race in that water level... The purple coin levels were hard but I thought they were hard in a good way. That one race against shadow Mario on the other hand was just irritating and annoying. It was so frustrating. I either watched that shadow running way ahead of me without much of a change to get pass him or I was ahead of him but watched him passing me during the last few seconds and it was always just nerve-wrecking to start it all over again.

I just can't make myself to start playing the game again because I know I eventually have to play that level again and I already know how much harder it will be with Luigi. I just wish I could play another "disappearing floors" purple coin level instead of that race. I absolutely loved that level.

@Airola: the only way I could beat Cosmic Luigi in the beach/water-race level (and believe me, I tried so hard to beat him the normal way!) was by jumping up onto the right-hand wall edge (it's kinda like a big shell underneath the water, holding it in... it's juuuuuuust wide enough for you to walk on) and running along that to the castle area at the end to get the star. it took two or three tries because I fell off the side, but eventually I made it and got the star.

Cosmic Luigi is just harder to beat overall. He uses long-jumps a lot... would you believe I hadn't used a long-jump at all in the entire game (the entire Mario game, I never had to use it!) until that first cosmic race in Honeyhive Galaxy (or whatever it is with the bee queen)? lucky for me i've played so much Mario 64 that picking it back up was almost instinctive. :3

You can use the speed boost rings to quickly fly out of the water. You can also obstruct comsic Luigi at the beginning.

one of the best mario games of all time despite the horrible story hahaha

I like Mario 64's story better.

"Dear Mario,
Please come to the castle. I have baked a cake for you.
Yours Truly,
Princess Toadstool (Peach)"

...and I think that was the extent of it. Yep.

Oh come on, Mario 2 takes the cake...

The whole story can be boiled down to "Mario had a kind of, but not really, bad dream."

Mario 64's story is weird. I mean a giant koopa challenges you to a race and gives you a star if you win. Shouldn't he fight you or something, he's one of Bowser's minions. On the other hand it's a game that features giant penguins and a plumber with extreme jumping ability...

Mario Land 2 is even worse. Wario is pretty much an accepted character now, but at the time it was quite weird. A manic, fatter version of Mario has taken your castle and he's determined to use all the monsters that Bowser used. Oh, OK, whatever.

And in Sunshine, can't the locals see that the blue guy looks very different to Mario?

I'd rate it an 8 or 8.5 out of 10, definitely worth getting.

I actually loved the story. It was just right; a few adorable storybook bits here and there to keep up the enchanted atmosphere, but not too much to get in the way of your adventuring.

Kinda disappointing IMO. While I was playing it, something felt "missing". Not sure what, though.

I'd give it an 8 or 8.5.

fan boiz always complain about little mistakes in a nearly perfect game... a 10/10 for sure

10/10 by this site's scoring policy all the way...98% by a percentage scoring polict... Personally, my favourite game of any kind on any console of all time. It was not only an outstanding game, I enjoyed the experience of playing through it with my family. For the general gaming public, I'd rate it number 2 in the greatest games ever to appear on a nintendo console after Ocarina (though Galaxy is MY favourite)
