I'm thinking about getting Super Mario Galaxy, I've played it at my cousin's house and I kinda like it, and it looks really fun.
So sould I get it or should iI consider getting something else?

It is really fun. Personally, I wish I had just rented it. If you have a free weekend with nothing to do, rent it and play it all the way through. It is a blast, but I can't see ever wanting to play through the whole thing again. Some levels are just boring, and the game is too long for repeat playthroughs.

I enjoyed it, dunno what else to say since Adam pretty much said everything. (though I did play through it more than once, but that's because I have too much time on my hands, lol)

I have too much time, too, but I also have too many games (got to love the VC!) for this to be a problem.

I'd buy it. That'll give you more time to get all the stars as both Mario and Luigi (which can be frustrating but is ultimately a great way to extend the game). Then give yourself a few months and replay it, like I'm doing now. An immediate replay will probably bore you, but it is a game worth picking up again down the line. I love it, and I think it's my favorite Mario game overall.

It took me a week of off-and-on play to get all the stars. It was a lot of fun, and the soundtrack is amazing, but (like Mario 64) it's going to be a while before I'm in the mood to play through it all over again. Some of those stars (Luigi's Purple Coins, anyone?!) were just freaking painful to get. XP

@BellGoRiiing, Chicken Brutus: ha, i don't even want to know how many lives it took for me to get through that the first time, and then to get it again as Luigi... DDDDD:

I thought Super Mario Galaxy was fantastic. Now was it the "be all end all" many predicted, probably not. But it's still one of the best platformers I've ever played.

Plain old gamer :)

Actually it didn't take me nearly as long with Luigi, because thanks to my millions of deaths as Mario I had a pretty workable path in mind. It was still $@*#%&@ hard though.

Nintendo did an evil, evil thing by putting a time limit on that level. You don't get ANY time to rest on that level anyway, so the clock is meaningless...it's just there to ramp up your anxiety and put you even more on edge, meaning you're more prone to make stupid decision and fall into pits because you're going too fast. It was purely a psychological choice to put a clock there, and it's MEAN.

What was the worst for me was the first time I got that star to appear as Mario... I hadn't realized that it appeared all the way back at the beginning. I should've known, of course, but I was all the way back in the corner farthest away from the start platform and I hadn't bothered to save myself a path back to the beginning via green tiles. D:

Have you ever seen a grown chicken cry? You would have, if you were watching me as I came to that same realization...

The thing I've hated the most about the 3D mario games is having to collect coins to get stars. However, Galaxy is worth the money, as it is a lot fo fun, and looks awesome. Luigi's Purple Coins and the Manta Ray level from Sunshine would have to be the two levels I've had the most trouble with out of any Mario game!

It's great - I would not listen to Adam, because :

1. DO you really have time to beat the game in a weekend?

2. I have beaten it many times, and 121'd it with MArio and Luigi - great replay.

3. Broke it out for some kiddies today - and what fun they had, in fact it made it fresh for me to hear them geek out.

Great game, hope we get a direct sequel.

Also, Adam it seems odd to me that the only disc channel game you have held onto is Smash Brothers, and yet you are so eager to invest in VC/Wiiware games that you cannot dump - at least not without dumping them AND your wii.....

Hardcore, casual = marketing. The real divide is between arcade and narrative games.

Adam

I would always listen to Adam. But don't listen to weirdadam.

But yea, if you don't have an entire weekend to devote to the game, buy it. I was just saying IF you did. Fortunately, I work at a university, so I have no shortage of time off. Then again, if you already beat such a long game and got 121 stars with both characters, I'd say you have more free time than I do.

I share the hope for a direct sequel.

About my personal game collection, I like games that are either multiplayer or can be beaten in a short time frame. VC and WiiWare (I have only a few WiiWare games, and don't like most of them) are perfect for this. Old games tend to have more realistic notions of how much free time people have to play them in. I can't put in the amount of hours it takes to beat Galaxy more than once. 120 stars with Mario and a few with Luigi was enough to tire me of the game, but that's just me.

Oh, and about "dumping" games... If you sell or trade in a retail game, you are going to lose at least $10 in the deal, which is the most a VC game would cost anyway, so there's no need to get rid of downloaded games. I know my game collection is odd, but it makes sense in its own way. I have only so much time for games, and only so much money. This approach meets my needs the best.

Mario Galaxy is amazing, easily the best game on Wii (in my opinion at least), and one of the best platformers I've ever played (3D or otherwise). The only things I didn't like about it were Spring Mario and Luigi's Purple Coins. I lost a good 100 or so lives on that sucker! And now I have to do it all over again with Luigi and his slippery controls!!

More than that I figure, at least if you do it the easy (GameStop) way. Figure $50 game is prolly $40-45 used. You get at most half of what the used price is in STORE CREDIT or less in CASH, So you'd probbably get $20 cash maybe and $25 credit. Net loss of $25-30 and that's if you traded it in immediantly. And yes, I did not figure in 10% cards or other promotions.

On topic: SMG is a great game that I myself need to find time to go through agaian and actually 120 it.

Oh yeah, I forgot about Spring Mario. He sucks.

Also, the purple coin levels that are on rails (so to speak) are agonizing with Luigi's slippery soles. Miss a #@$#@%@#$ coin and the whole level is ruined. Ruined I tells ya!

Buy the game! It is almost just as fun as Super Mario 64!
