So I read the article on Excitebots not coming to EU (sorry eu all), and I decided to play snoopy video game editor and check out the rest of the site - and I found an article on Zelda. I translated with google, and here's what I got:

Zelda has always been synonymous with RPG art, a first-person shooter will be? According to this source are not so unthinkable as one might initially believe. Thus was Shigeru Miyamoto, head of Nintendo and spiritual father of Zelda and Super Mario series, starting at the time of Ocarina of Time expressed the wish to develop an offshoot of the story from the first-person view narrates. Nintendo reported concerns but why Miyamoto a detour in the purchase and took his idea of a first-person shooter in Metroid Prime realized. His hopes had he not been buried: "I think that the Zelda series many great, unique ideas are needed. Consequently, the team now that these ideas can be found." Possibly, the upcoming E3 2009 new insights. We are excited and are sharp on your opinions. Post them in the comment section!

Reading between the g(oogle)ibberish, apparently Miyamoto has expressed interest in taking Zelda to the first person? Ready to rage?

Oh, I hadn't noticed the article was translated at first, and I was about to discredit it simply for the atrocious writing. I think you're misreading the mistranslation, though. Miyamoto had almost nothing to do with Metroid, to my knowledge, and all he says in this article is that Zelda needs new and unique ideas. And it certainly does, but first-person perspective is not specified. I'm not sure if it'd be better or worse than the current camera set-up, but if they did do it, at least it'd be different. The series is getting stale.

Perhaps, but: "Miyamoto [...] expressed the wish to develop an offshoot of the story from the first-person view". I must say it's difficult to make sense of the translation.

Zelda in first person... Hardly

Yes, that's referring to Ocarina, I believe. Since it was the first Zelda in 3D, they have said long ago that first-person was discussed (maybe even prototyped? I don't think, though). Who knows though.

Machine translations are hysterical. There was this site I heard of once upon a time, and it would translate text automatically through multiple languages and then back into English to see how much was lost in translation. It's pretty funny. Go here to give it a swing.

Believe it or not, that translation could be much worse!

In agreement with this source you are not ingualmente inconceivable, since she could she herself believed being at the outset. Nintendo returned the valid interest, but because Miyamoto in the first place took a rotation in the purchase and its idea from an artilleryman everything in the perfection of Metroid executed. Their hopes were not buried: " Load that the series of Zelda very to a large extent, the necessary earth ideas. Therefore the group, now these ideas can be found." here; The probable directions new the following one of E3 gave 2009. We are moving and the hair, this its opinions is indicated. Annuncilo in the commentaries of the section!

My favorite parts: Miyamoto gets his ideas for Zelda from an artilleryman (translated from "shooter") and "We are moving and the hair." Yes, the hair. Definitely.

I think I heard there will be some sort of mini-game thing that will take place in FPS, or a weapon like the arrows. But i cannot see Zelda being a real FPS game.

Hahahaha that translation is AWESOME. So, if the article is referencing quotes from 10 years ago, I'm not worried.

Crossbow Training 2? I wouldn't mind that. Crossbow Training was surprisingly fun, though nothing amazing.

Every fanboynerd lamented when they heard metroid prime was in 3d and not 2d. To this date metroid prime has not been surpassed as the king (queen?) of 2d to 3d transition. If Miyamoto is indeed bringing a zelda fps it's will be the best fps ever and revolutionise the rotten corpse that is fps today.

I could see that being interesting if the game focused on shooting with a crossbow and featured more infrequent sword combat using Motion+. Show us something new, Nintendo. Link deserves it.

I'd simply not buy it. If a game is either in first person or requires more shooting than any other action, I usually ignore it. I thought I was safe from most of those games in Nintendoland.

@Adam: you read my mind. i wouldn't mind having some Motion+ swordfighting in a fps zelda... combine it with some shield-thrusting and dodging-out-of-the-way goodness and i can see myself playing the heck out of it.

Oh yes! But unless they restructure the game completely so that it's more stage-based, full-motion combat would get tiresome, so putting such combat elements interspersed between less demanding crossbow-shooting situations would make a lot of sense, actually. Or if the shooting idea is bad, they could go all Shadow of Colossus with a large open world to explore and make combat simply less frequent altogether in a more minimalistic approach. Ah, the possibilities.

NO that would be sooooo lame! All Link has is a sword, bow, and bommerang, that just wouldn't work.
IT would get old way to fast, and the lack being able to see everything would get annoying.
That would crush me! =(
