Topic: NSMBW what character instead?

I would love to play as a goomba. He's such an awesome character.

About Toadette, she appeared in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Super Mario Galaxy according to wikipedia, so it would be time for here to get a bigger part in a Mario Game.

BTW, Toadette is related to Toad, so it would have made sense to replace the generic toads with those two.

I think they should've used Waluigi and Wario, plus should've made it so only certain characters can do certain actions or things.

But Waluigi and Wario are bad guys, why on earth would they help Mario and Luigi to get the Princess back?

Well, they're Nintendo, they can think of SOMETHING!

I'm not sure that any other characters in the "Mario Canon" would really fit the game's style. However, if we could extend the roster of characters into any character that's been in a Mario game (not including the SSB series), I'd have to go with Donkey Kong. It would've made sense since it's possible to throw and lift players/things in the game.

I have to say that toad and toadette makes the most sense for me. Wario and waluigi would work, but think about how much taller waluigi is. It just wouldn't look right if they had to make him shorter.
@Digiki I notice that you like to make me look like I'm lying, or scared, or something along the lines of that. It's nice to know that I have people like you out there who really like me!

I was thinking about Donkey kong also, but It would really look out of proportion I think. Imagine how muscular DK is, and can you imagine him in a penguin or propellor suit?
As for Goomba and Koopa,
a) they are pretty weak, and can't even jump
b) how would you incorporate that into a storyline? Make them rebels against bowser or something?

@110percentful You definitely have a point, but other than Toadette, DK is the only other choice that makes the most logical sense. And besides, changing tie colors would be pretty awesome for suits.

@vegetablejuiceninja I really can't think of any other characters in the main mario series that would work. Maybe a shuyguy, but those are normally villians also.
Really, the characters that I consider THE main characters are Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, DK, Wario, Toad, and Bowser. I don't consider Koopa and Goomba characters, they never really do anything important [except for in the sports games]

A few ideas that I felt would've been great.

1. Instead of it always being Peach getting kidnapped, you'd get to choose which character and then play as the others. The storyline would be different depending on who was kidnapped.
2. Playable characters - Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Toad, Peach.
3. Have unlockables (different suits, outfits, characters ie....Rosalina) that are obtained by spending the star coins you've collected.
4. Get a little crazy and make some of the other Mario characters such as Wario, DK, and Waluigi as some of the bosses you must defeat to get to Bowser.
5. Last but not least..................online would be interesting now wouldn't it?

That's it, back to what you were doing.

If they made it (or they made a sequel) so that each character has unique abilities then I would support Donkey Kong.

I would want special abilities for a boo. I love boo, and I always play as him when possible.

Wario and Walugi. WAH HA HA!

I wish nintendo would make a game where you play as bowser and the koopalings, and have to fight mario. As an end boss, after you defeat mario, something could happen that deefeats bowser, resulting in a win for mario again. That way you get to play as awesome characters, and you have to win to lose!

I think the toads work fine. If you replaced them with any of the other characters, excluding maybe toad and toadette, you would have to alter the controls for those other characters so it felt "right". If that had happened the differences between characters would have no-longer been cosmetic.

Think about it. Donkey Kong is a LOT stronger than Mario and Luigi so you would expect him to be able to pick up heavy objects and throw them with more force. Wario is heavier and so moves slower but has more momentum. Daisy and Peach are more elegant and tend to float to the ground. Imagine the sight of Daisy wall jumping, doesn't work. After we get past that we end up in the absurd. Goombas and Koopas? how would you explain how they can all of a sudden move like Mario? How do you differentiate between an enemy and player 4? Doesn't that make it even harder to track where you are?

Excluding some of the other toads, who don't match a traditional 4 player colour scheme, no other character makes sense. If they invented two new brothers for Mario and Luigi or some other random character it might have worked but then we would be complaining about that instead (people already complain about Waluigi). The toads fit the spec and the game is fun so quit complaining about it.
