I've seen many people complain about the two toads, and even IGN [not that I like or trust them] said that it was unoriginal to just have 2 unnamed toads as extra playable characters. Anyways, what character[s] could replace the toads? I haven't thought of any character that would make sense in anyway. Anyways, I think it's kind of wrong to complain. The reason I say that is because at least with the toads 4-player is possible. Leave a reply saying what character you think could take the place of a toad!

I don't really care if they used another character. Daisy does spring to mind immediately, though, if I were to think of another character. It doesn't matter to me. Just remember that lots of people love to complain.
My sis thought the two toads was stupid at first. Guess who she always picks to play as when she's second player? (And it's not Luigi).

Put Peach and Daisy in overalls and caps and let them have a moment in the spotlight too, instead of making Peach the plot coupon again and not even using Daisy. That's getting really old, especially since we know both these girls can stand up for themselves...

I don't care if it doesn't make any sense, but I was wanting Wario & Waluigi. (I know that they wouldn't want to help out, but they do both like fame and glory.)
Nintendo was too worried about making each character equal, which is why they just threw in some generic toads. They could have atleast given them some names; IGN even came up with some.
would'a been nice if they'd'a gone with a different plot that would have allowed Peach to be playable (a la SMB2us). her jumping/flying might've been interesting gameplay-wise in this one. :3

i agree with wario and waluigi, and i would have been fine with them even stretching proper physics to give them the same properties as the other two brothers, if they wanted all things equal. or even the two toads would have been fine, had they done toad and toadette. she's made an appearance for mario kart, why not a platformer? and it would have given the girls a playable character....

I though it's very uncreative to use two generic, nameless toads. Why not use Toad and Toadette? Still two toads but with much more character and fans of the series are familiar with them. My sister love Toadette so that would have been awesome for her.
An other possibility would be to use Baby Mario and Baby Luigi, but that would have to involve a different storyline why they are there. It would be great for a possible sequel though. Let Bowser kidnap Peach and Baby Bowser Baby Peach and then let them come together. Give the babies different abilities (like crawling through small spaces or something like that), it would add some extra depth too.

I don't mind the two toads. They could have included toadette / an option to change the toads colour though.... or maybe an unlockable character (like Daisy) if you beat the game.
Who the hell are Daisy and Toadette? They aren't canon.
Edit: Oh I guess Daisy was in Super Mario Land. But Toadette is a Mario Kart/Mario Party character only Edit again: IS Super Mario Land even considered canon?
@NotEnough: depends on what you consider Mario canon. sure, they've never been in a platformer, but they're off-shoot mainstays. Mario Kart, Party, Tennis, Strikers, Baseball, etc, etc.... so they're still a real part of the extended Mario universe... just as is Donkey Kong.

Yeah but generally Nintendo doesn't integrate characters the other way around. They'll bring Mario to a Mario Party game, but not a Mario Party character back to a canonical (platforming) Mario game.
I don't consider party and sports games to be canon. Daisy's not even from the Mushroom Kingdom so that's out. Using SMB1/B2J/B3/World/64/Sunshine/Galaxy as a character base, there really aren't a whole lot of choices other than the Bros. and the Toads... maybe MIPS
