Why not Gannondork, also ganondorf is just fine. He holds a spot in the tri-force why not keep him and in every game you learn more about him if you can piece it together.

@CptNtheGameMaster: it's been done before, the good guy teaming up with the bad guy to defeat the even badder one. there would have to be some serious twistage going on in order to make that kind of thing interesting again. :3

I can't ever see Ganon fighting along side Link. Not to mention it's terribly cliche, as you mentioned. But what if Link is working for Ganondorf, pretending to be a bad guy so he can get close to him and kill him? But in order to make it all look convincing, Link has to follow Ganon's orders, some of which may bring up certain moral issues within Link? THAT might be interesting...

I'd like to see Shadow link come back, or Dark link would be cool also.or maybe just maybe Samus that would be unexpected.

Zelda's story has always been cliche, so I don't see the problem with this new suggestion, at least not on the grounds of it being cliche. But I wouldn't like them working together in any way unless it's incidental or by some sort of sudden turn of events like Vader throwing Palpatine to his doom at the last minute, except obviously without the change of heart. Anything more extensive seems like it'd require them talking to each other, and if Link ever does talk, I hope it's not to Ganon.

The Zelda Games had alot of Villains.
But not too meny Girl ones like Veran.

For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday.

Since this is supposed to be before Ocarina, I'd like them to use either Vaati or else a new villain, with Ganondorf making a far lesser appearance of some sort.

I would have to say that Skyward Sword should be the marking point for a new villain. I'm assuming that because Ocarina was one of the first games chronologically (based on popular belief and Nintendo's Virtual Console Description of the game), and that this game takes place before it, the only logical villain would be Vaati, and I think Vaati is at his best in the portable games. Point being that a new villain should arise and make the chronology even more crazy.

I'm pretty sure I think I'm funnier than I really am.

Vaati's only console outing was in a game that was basically a handheld game tethered to a console, with the same style but obviously better looking. How can we know that he's "best" in the portable games when that's all he's done? There's nothing to compare to.

SilverBaretta

@Adam: I'm not comparing to anything, I'm just saying Vaati wouldn't completely work in the console games. Vaati is not considered a main villain, and the console games are bigger-budget, deeper games than the portables. I would think having a villain that was made specifically with the more "epic" console entries in mind, would be a better fit.

Well, just out of curiosity, not trying to force my point of view on you, but how is Minish Cap less "epic" than the original Zelda or A Link to the Past? I'm not saying it's as good as those games, but I think it's the same kind of game and reminds me a lot of A Link to the Past, actually. Ganon was once even less developed than Vaati, but he made the leap to the 3D systems very successfully.

I'll probably always like Ganon more because he is more of a manly warrior figure than a sorcerer, though obviously with dark magic as well, but I love Vaati's monster form and the art style of his games. It'd be a nifty change of pace to feature him in the consoles for just this once to explain how Hyrule was rid of him once and for all, adding a bit of finality in a series known for anything but.

On a related note, there was a really cool sky dungeon in Minish Cap. Maybe that is tied to Link's new home in the clouds somehow? I have forgotten Minish Cap's story entirely, so I don't know if that dungeon figured in much or if it was just another dungeon that they thought would be cool to place in the sky.

Oh, don't worry, I think the 2D entries, Minish Cap included, are very epic in their own right, but the standards set for the 2D games and the 3D games are different, and I think a smaller-time (at least at the moment) villain would be less appropriate for the standards set for the console entries.

The 2D and 3D games are certainly different, but as I mentioned, Ganon is a man of 2D origin himself. So why is it that, at the moment, a 2D villain can no longer successfully become a 3D villain in your opinion? I certainly don't think you're alone in thinking this way, but I just don't understand personally.

Come on, friends,

SilverBaretta

@Adam: I suppose it's because I'm thinking in the way of recent Zelda games. If i take into account the ENTIRE series, then yes, Vaati has a good chance in making the jump, if he is implemented well into the 3D universe we have come to know and love. But looking at the more recent console entries (Majora's Mask excluded), they have been very traditional in casting the main villain Ganon as the main enemy, and since Ganon shouldn't actually exist in this particular game, seeing someone like Vaati, who hasn't truly been fleshed out on console, would disturb the balance of the 3D universe as he normally shows up in the 2D portable games. So while I can definitely see and accept Vaati as the possible villain in this game, I just don't think it would stick to what Nintendo has established as far as the 3D games go.

NotEnoughGolds

I still think Fierce Deity should be the villain.

Rensch

It's not gonna be Ganon. Eiji Aonuma said the game takes place before Ocarina of Time. That's the game wherein Ganon is still an ordinary human and obtains the Triforce of Power for the first time. This grants him the power to become the Evil King and return in other games. Since Skyward Sword takes place earlier, most likely even before Ganon is born, it's impossible for him to be in it. Vaati is possible though. Many suggest that games that feature Vaati, such as the Four Swords series and the Minish Cap, take place sometime early on in the timeline. Skyward Sword apperently takes place sometime early on in the timeline as well, perhaps even before all the older games.

I actually think that Ganondorf would be cool because the story could be the whole beginning of the plot that Ganondorf put on Hyrule. And wouldn't it be cool to feel like you are having a real sword fight with THE Ganondorf.
