It's sad if Nintendo is really considering a name change, just because some people, are frankly, too "stupid" not to realize that it's a new console. And if this is Nintendo's problem, then the problem will remain if they stick with the Wii name with their only option is to call it Wii 2. Wii the Next Generation.
Not only does the 3DS come with an SD card, but it also happens to come pre-installed with one, additional dimension.

I feel kinda the same way but to a greater extent...I didn't really think the whole name thing was too much of a problem until my uncle was curious about my 3DS. I tried to explain it to him and make him realize that it's the next handheld from Nintendo and not just another DS revision and...well he did finally understand....after like 10 minutes of trying to make him understand. And I'm still not convinced he really truly gets it! My point being: The name is fine, but instead of causing alot of confusion among the stupid people people who don't get it, why not just change the name and get rid of a huge problem altogether that can be so easily avoided? Nintendo and other people might not like it but the problem is just too easily avoided to not consider, with great thought, a name change while you still can. That being said: come oooon Super Omega Nintendo

To explain why I suggested Nintendo Wiindow, here are the reasons: 1- The Wii part shows you that you will still have the Wii experience you know and love. 2- The other window part shows that new gaming possibilities window is opened for developers to create better games.

alot of these names made me literally laugh out loud....
but if they do rename the system...I think the revolution would be an awesome name. I just hope there are some revolutionary concepts with the system all around.

I got it! Just call it Nintendo Wii. Because this wii U is just what the original Wii should have been. The nintendo corporation should say sorry to everyone for being money hungry because they want us to buy upgraded wii's.
I don't like Wii U, but then I never liked Wii as a name in the first place. It's a bit of a difficult situation, because if they drop the Wii name they could well lose sales from the casual market, however keeping the Wii name will cost sales from the hardcore market. Let's face it, the Wii is not well-respected by most non-Wii gamers. I think that if the next PlayStation was demonstrably far superior to the next Xbox, a lot of Xbox players would happily migrate. However, Nintendo have a harder job in attracting these consumers because of the stigma of Wii as a casual, gimmicky console.
My tentative suggestion would be something like "Wii Revolution" - this keeps the Wii name but "revolution" suggests a radical overhaul, which is what the hardcore crowd need to be convinced of.
Wii U or Wii 2 is going to be seen as "just another Wii" in most people's eyes, unless they take the time to properly research the product, which a lot won't. Of course, the name certainly isn't too important, a good marketing campaign and launch line-up will do 99% of the work. Just thought I'd chip in my opinion since, you know, I like talking about stuff.
The Super Nintendo Wii would stir up some nostalgia for people like me who've been around since the SNES days so I guess that is why I am biasing towards that name. Though SNW as an acronym doesn't really have the same ring as the SNES when said aloud (Sness vs. Snew?). Someone said earlier "Why does it have to even include 'Wii' in the name?" and I'd agree. It doesn't really. The Nintendo Ion sounded pretty cool but every time I think of that I think of the Saturn Ion which brings about bad thoughts economically for Nintendo just like that part of GM's automotive branch...Without getting too into the names, I really don't think I'll care too much about what they name it, since we've already been through the Wii as a name. The Nintendo Vector sounds kind of cool though. Vector drawings are done on tablets commonly, which would remind people of the tablet function, plus it sounds a little more interesting than the Wii to be honest.
