Because that's exactly what it looked like last year. Now it has 100 premade levels and boatloads of new possibilities. That said, even if I had a Wii U I personally wouldn't pay $60 for any 2D platformer, let alone a Mario one with terrible controls galore. But for $40 on 3DS, count me in.

Because a lower price changes the "terrible controls".

No, but being a 2D Platformer that could have existed on the N64 or Gamecube should influence price.

Terrible controls just deters me from 2D Mario games in general.

What terrible controls? Mario can turn on a dime.

The only Mario game to ever have bad controls was the original.

By controls I'm not talking about how responsive the game is, rather how the control scheme itself is designed. It was fine when it was created on NES. You only have 2 face buttons, a D-pad, and Start/Select. But in an era where there are 4 face buttons, 4 triggers, and an analog stick, the control scheme of 2D Mario games is utterly archaic. There are literally 3 different commands simultaneously mapped to the B-button (as in, when you press B, all 3 can happen)--in a 2D Platformer in 2015. That doesn't make sense, it's clunky design. The solution is simple. Do what 3D Mario games have been doing for years. Switch to analog run, and change the "hold" button to a "grab/throw" button (as in, you don't have to hold the button to hold an item). If you want to keep digital run, then map the button to a trigger, so they player isn't jamming their finger across two buttons and controlling the game with their knuckle.

Why are people assuming it'll cost less on the 3DS?

Thinking about it aside from the new Yoshi game which came with an Amiibo my last 3 3DS games I got retail (STEAM, Zelda: Majora's Mask & Pokemon AS) which cost around the £26-29 were more than my last 3 Wii U games (Splatoon, Captain Toad & Rayman Legends) which were £15-£23 and aside from Rayman they were all pretty much day one buys.

At least in North America, the ceiling price of 3DS games is $39.99 (aside from Persona Q). The ceiling price of Wii U games is 59.99.

Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F

I thought the controls for the original were fine (unless you were talking about the 1983 arcade Mario Bros. game) But Super Mario 64 DS also bad controls.

Oh, yeah. The D-Pad on the DS clearly wasn't suited for Mario 64. Anyways, I would, but only if it was different from the Wii U version, like having assets from the handheld games (Mario Land, Mario Land 2, New Super Mario Bros., New Super Mario Bros 2).

There is nothing here...except for the stuff I just typed...

Controls are kinda off topic here, guys.

@VeeFlamesNL I was thinking the same about NSMB2's art style. It could be unique to the 3DS version.
