Cheers

Actually you can do it only on Wii Mode for the time being. Here are the step how:

1. Go to Wii Mode from Wii U menu.
2. On Wii Menu clhoose Wii shop channel, make sure that your Wii U is connected to Internet.
3. Once you have accessed to Wii Shop Channel, choose a software that you would like to purchase using Wii Points.

And you are set to go.

also make sure you have a controller like the Classic Controller Pro to Play VC games, since Wii U controllers don't work.

Supplementary question: the Wii can only connect to the internet via access points with WEP security - is that the same with Wii mode on the Wii U? I've missed out on Wii VC and WiiWare because mine is WPA2 (which my 3DS and DSi can connect to but DS and Wii can't)and I was hoping that getting a Wii U would be my chance to catch up. Hopefully someone here knows as I haven't heard either way yet!

The Wii U Pro controller only works with Wii U games. The only way to play Super Mario Galaxy is with a Wii Remote and Nunchuck.

Yep. Its funny how the Wii was supposed to make things simple....yet we now we have a console with at least 4 different controller options, could possibly argue more

The Wii Mode automatically uses the same internet setup you use for Wii U. You don't need to set it up twice. And yes, it uses the same standard as 3DS and DSi, so I would assume your Wii internet problem will be gone.

Gonna need a Classic Controller Pro since I can't use the GameCube controller anymore.

It does? I was sure that it had the same requirements as the DS and therefore wouldn't work. Truth be told I haven't even tried it because I was sure it wouldn't work, but I know what I'm doing when I get home now!

That is one reason I am debating transfering my stuff from the Wii to the Wii U. I am not ready to give up my Wavebirds.
