While technically possible in the future, I do not think gaming companies will go down that route. Not to mention the technology to make portable devices as powerful as home consoles is still decades away. But hey that's the future, we may have anti-gravity cars by then who knows.

Just look at the iPad. It's not as far as you think. You can get a decent gaming laptop for about $2,000 - $2,500 nowadays. Since technology doubles about every 18 months, we should see a gaming laptop for $500 in 3-5 years.

While anti-gravity cars may be out of the question for now, self-driving cars are becoming a reality. So you have that to look forward to.

To answer your question, no the Super Mario Bro U although similar but it cannot be fit into the Wii unless they watered down the graphics by ALOT.
You're like saying they should have release Grand Tourismo 6 on the PS3 instead of the PS4 or Dead Rising 3 on the Xbox 360. Newer consoles means more power, and it means better graphics and overall performance than previous gen games.

That's exactly my point. Do graphics mean anything to a Mario game? NO! Mario looks the same in SD as he does in HD because of his simple style.

Also, I personally don't think Gran Turismo needs to be on any console without a steering wheel peripheral. Sims really lose all meaning when you're using the wrong controls.

And as for Dead Rising... well, does Nintendo make Dead Rising games? Does Nintendo make anything that would benefit as much from a performance boost? I'd say no... not yet anyway. Not until we have a Zelda game that can match Grand Theft Auto or Skyrim in scale.

Also by your logic, EA should make Battlefield 4 for Vita or Titan Fall for Xbox 360 since it has more install base? It doesn't work this way buddy.

What? Since when does the Vita have a large install base? Only the hardest of hardcore Sony fans own a Vita, and even then half of them don't because it has no original games. As for Titanfall on the 360, yes that would actually have been a good idea, if only Microsoft hadn't payed the developers tons of money to make it exclusive to the XBone.

Bottom line is, portable devices and home consoles although does the same thing (gaming), but they are aimed at different audiences (Although I own both but that's a different story). If a person wants to buy a Wii U, they will consider a PS4/Xbone before they even think about a 3DS.

"Although I own both but that's a different story" Honestly the only bit of gaming that doesn't overlap between the people who like consoles and the people who like handhelds is mobile phone games.

I'm missing the logic here. If a person wants to buy a Wii U, they'll just buy a Wii U. If you're talking about the kind of person that wants to show off how awesome the graphics are over having any sort of real fun, then yes, go for the Xbone or PS4. Otherwise, someone who actually likes games instead of interactive movies will have to make a tough choice between a console that has very few good games, and a handheld that has a lot.

No. Just no. Since when does graphics means more to a specific kind of game? Mario deserves to be pretty too!

"Does Nintendo make anything that would benefit as much from a performance boost"

I know you are going to flame me for this, but I'm going to go ahead and said it. The upcoming titles such as X, bayonetta 2 etc is going to blow my hair away. Fingers crossed no more Iwata going "Please understand".

"I'm missing the logic here. If a person wants to buy a Wii U, they'll just buy a Wii U"

My point is, if a person wants to buy a console and having second thoughts, those thoughts will most probably be PS4/Xbone and not a 3DS. Similarly if a person wants to pick up a 3DS, they won't go "oh gee, for another 150 bucks I can get the Wii U!". I'm not saying it is impossible for some people to think like that, but majority of them doesn't.

And by the way, if gaming laptops becomes 500 bucks in 3 years, trust me I'll be the happiest man alive.

That total price only applies if you are the one buying 5 3DS'. Odds are, you're playing with people who all have their own already. And that's how Nintendo is probably looking at it. Lots of people already have a 3DS, not so many people have Wii U's. So when they have to decide which console to make a game for, which one is going to sell more copies? On top of that, 3DS games are much easier to develop and with limited features available in download play you can incentivise people to purchase more than one copy.

Thing is, I don't think graphics matter as much as people on the internet make it seem. Historically, not once has the more powerful console in the same market come out on top until recently with the Wii U and PS4, and even then it's too early to really judge.

Also, the stage textures in the Wii U version look pretty bad... just sayin'.

One is a higher resolution image zoomed in the edge of a stage and the other is a low res image of the vast bulk of the stage. Both of games that are still in development. I wouldn't read too much into it. I grabbed the first screenshots I could find.

Anyways, my comparison also assumed that the same person didn't own a Wii U between those four people or any controllers from the Wii era. Maybe shock/horror you want to play the game with someone who's not really that much of a Nintendo gamer. What about when you have more than four people? Happens a lot with something like Smash or Mario Kart. Unless it supports more than 4P multi on the 3DS and everyone who wanted to play has a 3DS the couch experience is better. You just make it so loser drops out and hands it to the next person in line. As an added bonus the people who aren't that into it can be spectators.

Correct me if i misunderstood this sentence, but... Gran Turismo 6 is a PS3 game. It haven't been released on PS4 as far as i'm aware of.

They are making the "ultimate version" of GT 6 on the PS4 as we speak. That's what I heard though, I could be wrong.

You are limited to a maximum of 5 players on the Wii U with a single console not connected to the internet. You are limited to whatever number of players the developers will allow on the 3DS, plus how many 3DS' you have. So as long as everyone has a 3DS, theoretically everyone can play.

It's true that the big screen allows for spectators, I'll give you that one. And yeah, if someone doesn't own a 3DS in your group of friends, the Wii U is probably better. Seems like I could make a whole separate topic about that though...
