Considering buying one and and only one vita or Wii u, which do you recommend? Already own a Wii, 3ds and an Xbox 360.
I like Rpg's, adventure, some platformers, etc.
Many thanks

Wii u because of the IP from Nintendo, if you like going mostly portable than vita for sure. But if you like to be a bit mobile but just in the house then wii u for sure.
Thats up to you depending on what games you want, but i'm sure almost everyone on here will say a Wii U.
Wii u: pikmin 3, wonderful 101, smash Bros, Mario kart, etc
Vita: tearaway, rayman legends, DOA 5, persona 4 golden, etc
I just wanted to know opinions from people who own both

Wondering if the 3ds might provide enough from Nintendo this gen, hoping it has metroid though at some point though, then get a vita instead

to be honest I'll say wait.... unless you find that one of the two already has enough games to make them worth it for you, both consoles have very uncertain futures at this time and is not sure how many games each would get going forward......
However.. both platforms is basically failures both in terms of sales and games. If you like RPGs and Adventure-games Vita is the better choice today, especially since it is regionfree and has better support then Wii U from third party (even though its not much to talk about either).
But Wii U has some promising content for the future such as X, Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem and The Wind Waker HD. So I guess it comes down to what you would prefer yourself. You can connect Wii U to a TV (woah! ), you can take Vita with you everywhere, Wii U has Nintendo, Vita has Sony... Look at the games and decide after that.
At this moment, I'd go with a Vita. It has better prospects because of the crossplay with PS3/PS4 and you get some great games via PS Plus. I'd wait with getting a Wii U untill after the holiday season and see where the thing is headed after the bigger titles hit.

Rayman Legends also on Wii U, and probably the best version. I think it is ridicilous to even make the comparison. Wii U is so much better both currently and in the upcoming foreseeable future.
I had a vita with 10 games and PS plus.... I'm over it. The machine doesn't meet my expectations. It has sooo much potential... Yet Sony seems to hold it back.... I've had my vita since launch day.
Why? The Vita is dead. Simple. Sure you'll be able to use it with a PS4... but as a whole it has a worse software support than the Wii U.
Not exactly, the Vita is at least doing well in Japan, much better than the Wii U... The Wii U is doing better globally but the popularity of the Vita in Japan kinda guarantees it would at least get some third party games from japanese developers, while the Wii U which is not really popular anywhere in the World looks like being doomed to first party games and nothing else but movie tie ins and dancing shovelware

Not really since third parties haven't given up on the Vita as the apparently have with the WIi U. Sony has been good about supporting the system, and the PS3/PS4 will make sure the Vita still gets indie games alongside the Sony made stuff, and third party games.
Still I don't think you can go wrong either way.
