Topic: Wii U failure linked to Wii's downfall.

As we all know, the Wii U is nearing failure. We also know that the Wii bowed out of the competition three years early and sales fell of a cliff. Both suffered extreme game droughts due to lacking third party support. You know what else they have in common. THEY ARE BOTH UNDERPOWERED MACHINES WITH GIMMICKS.

When I upgraded to a PS3 from a Wii, I was shocked at how clear and vivid the games looked on my HDTV. I felt like I was free from the evil clutches of the Wii remote and SD graphics and poor online. I never ever wanted to return to Wii again after witnessing the PS3. But I fell into the trap of Off-TV play. The Wii U is much improved from the Wii, but with graphics which are lesser than the PS4 and XBO, and lack of third party support (most notably EA with BF4) really demises it's value.

There is a reason why people are waiting for price drops, people want Nintendo games, but they don't want to play it on underpowered hardware. See the GameCube with it's amazing tie ratio. It still got most major third party support and superior multiplats such as Sonic Heroes 60fps edition (Even SSX by EA had exclusive Nintendo characters). Nintendo might have lost, but it's fans won in the end.

Next generation. I think Nintendo shouldn't make a console/handheld hybrid, but a $499 console that strives for power.

hm....... the WiiU can't be considered a failure until it's discontinued because only after that it won't be able to recover.
and if Nintendo starts making expensive consoles for the sake of power I'll become a PC gamer(but that's just me so this part doesn't count)

I kind of agree. The Wii brand fell into irrelevance with the mainstream since Nintendo let the system die early, and when the Wii U came around the Wii name didn't mean much to the populus. On the other hand Nintendo's dropping of the Wii U early hurt its relationship with the core gamers who didn't know what type of support the system would have
A few more this into the the Eii U amid the delays and clearly unimpressive launch line up it begged the question what was Nintendo doing developer wise with in the two years where the Wii really wasn't supported.

Plus I feel a lot of gamers wbi started with the Wii on both the Casuel and more core segments of gamers went to the Xbox/PlayStation/mobile and never looked back.

Nintendos folly was not having a consistent message internally or externally when it came to who they're target market was. Without the pivotal third party support they couldn't spread they're resources to appeal to both market segments properly.

I watched it when I was like 7 and didn't know what was going on. I just thought it was boring.

I watched it again as a 30 year old and now I understood everything that was going on. I just thought it was boring.

I agree that the end-life of the Wii, and the launch of the Wii U have both been handled rather...shoddy. I can't completely agree with the gimmick claim though. The Wii mote is awesome. Does every dev use it in an awesome way? No. Have you played Metroid Trilogy on the Wii? Smooth like butter, I don't wanna play a shooter any other way. I'm still on the fence with the game pad. I think it's a great concept, I just think it's a bit half-baked in it's current form. The off-TV play distance is really short, and I do think the touch screen is going to seem a bit out-dated rather quickly in comparison to other touch screen devices over the next couple years.
I do agree they need to just merge the two platforms together - portable + home console. The current state is just too cannibalistic.

Blade Runner is amazing. Rutger Hauer is da man. So is Harrison Ford I guess.

That's actually what's rumored right now, it's also rumored that it will feature "super backwards compatibility" by simply just making the OS more powerful each gen.
