Firstly welcome to Mon Hun club

For beginners I would suggest you finish the "tutorial" first before trying to go online. After you finished the tutorials you can start to go online and join the "Beginner Room". Try to avoid the free channel as much as you can until you know what you're doing.

If you need help I am more than willing to show you the ways. Add me and I'll see if I can get online tonight

I say just play offline until you reach some of the large boss monsters like Royal Ludroth or something, and use that time to find a weapon you're best with. (Sword and Shield is basically the best for newbies) Village monsters have been toned down a little compared to Tri, I'm not online as often, but I might help out. I really need to try out my Hunting Horns in multiplayer at some point anyways. xD

Maybe this weekend for me, I get easily distracted by other games. lol

I say go for it if you're using small weapons that won't be troublesome to the other party members if you're not skilled, but learn to dodge it's the most important thing if you use weapons like Dual Blades.

Well the Sword and Shield have, um, a shield...which I said you might want to go with that first. Probably try the Duals next (though with those, you're gonna have to be pretty good at evading. ).

Just know you have to sharpen them...A LOT. So you have to be good at evading/timing so you don't get destroyed. Three other things worth mentioning:

-ALWAYS go prepared. Potions, Mega Potions, Energry Drinks (Especially if you're using Dual Blades) Hot/Cold Drinks as necessary, etc. If you aren't using at least a page and a half of your inventory going into a mission you're probably doing something wrong (or you're just that good/don't want to farm anything).

-Choose your armor/skills wisely. Certain Armor sets benefit certain weapons MUCH more than others. So I say choose your weapon/weapons you want to use then choose the armor that gives you the most advantages. Something like "health" or "earplugs" can be useful on any weapon (though "health" isn't that good because of eating bonuses) but something like "Focus" (improves charge attacks) is completely wasted on something like Sword and Shield which doesn't even have a charge attack.

-Every "hard" monster becomes easy once you know it's pattern (they ALL have a pattern). They only way to figure it out is to play...and die sometimes, lol.

I'd say feel free to go online once you've done some offline...just make sure you don't stumble into some elitist's room. MH elitists are known to be some of the worst in gaming...the stick up their butt is about as big as Dark Souls Elitists...and that's saying something! Otherwise, good luck!

take time messing with each weapon and see which one best suits your play style. focus on watching how the monster moves and choose when to attack wisely. knowing how and when to dodge is key in a game like this.
