No not really. I just dislike the New Super Mario Bros. series.

Why?

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.

Hate to say it, but unless they don't change things up to a big degree, I'm sick of the "New" Mario games as well.

@NintyMan To be fair, 2D Mario bosses never were that spectacular. A safe guess is, that you have a few pre determined patterns to go with, and can slap these routines to a certain enemy and / or Boss character.

@Octane Thats what im talking about. But those few gimmicks wont be enough, if you already have a game with endless replayability. I bet you wont buy a 50€ just for rotating platforms in stage one, would you ?
Also, just look what people are doing with Smashs limited stage builder already. You can expect quite a lot of ingeniuity from some folks out there.
And thats pretty much what exites me the most about Mario Maker.
If it has a good and active community, its puts Nintendo to the test. It forces them to leave the safe haven that has been the NEW series and try to top the what i would almost call "indie ingeniuity" from the community.
They need a reason for people to want the next game, and that cant be achieved by "hay, its the same again".
That worked, as long as they were the ones making these games, but now you get your fix via the community. Just look at the Lunar Magic community. Some people created fantastic Mario games, some even rivaling the originals.

@NinjaWaddleDee I hate to say it too, but you DO sound like a horrible person :/ The NEW series was great, and i get where youre comming from, as its wearing really thing, but they arent bad games in any way shape or form. And i would welcome another one, although something new would be way more appreciated.

I'm guessing they'll do Galaxy 3. And hopefully package it with HD versions and 1&2.

What'd be great though would be a 2nd Mario 64. I loved the idea of explorable levels, instead of extravagantly disguised corridors (most of galaxy)

It's dangerous to go alone! Stay at home.

I really don't want Galaxy 3. I found Galaxy 2 pretty boring after playing through all of the first. I would rather see something like Sunshine or 64

3D graphics with 2D gameplay? That sounds like a fun project for Mario Maker

I'm sorry guys. I don't mean to sound like a horrible person, I just feel like Nintendo is getting pretty lazy nowadays. :/ The NSMB series is definitely not the worst I've ever played, but I really think Nintendo needs to stop making it after Mario Maker. It's like Nintendo's COD pretty much. Copy-paste everything from the last game, but with slightly new powerups. I can't be the only one who thinks that the music, graphics, story, power ups, world designs, and levels are uninspired right?

I mean sure, it handles BEAUTIFULLY, but then again, so do tons of other 2D platformers in this day and age. I'd much rather be playing, Shovel Knight, Tropical Freeze, Yoshi's Wooly World, Kirby's Return to Dreamland, Rayman Legends, and Little Big Planet, then another NSMB game. All of these games I've listed have incredible music and graphics, or world designs that make them stand out from NSMB's stupid whistle theme.

It's almost the same reason why I don't want a Galaxy 3, or a 3D world 2 either. Nintendo need to CHANGE the formula. I even have a couple ideas for them to change the NSMB's formula:

  • Change the graphical style, maybe have it hand drawn or something.
  • Orchestrated Music
  • Different playable characters that have different physics. (Like SMB2 USA, or SM3DW) Bring in Peach, Rosalina, Wario, Waluigi, etc.
  • Let us ride Yoshi as long as we want.
  • Make the multiplayer less intrusive to other players.
  • Give us a different story. Heck, why don't you let us play as Bowser or something? A 2D platformer where you play as Bowser and his minions would be sick!

Soooo that's why I dislike NSMB. It's not the worst game ever, and I probably overreacted, but I really hope Nintendo gets their act together with the Mario series.

^ You make some good points. I would love to see those ideas come to life. I don't like the music either, which for me is pretty darn important.
But like some already pointed out, there is a big chance for Nintendo to step up their game with Mario maker coming out.

How is Mario Maker a sign of Nintendo getting lazy nowadays? Isn't that a sign to want to change the formula?

I guess I was misunderstood. I meant they were getting a little lazy by rehashing the NSMBs series, but Mario Maker is a great step in the right direction. Which is why I want it to be the death of NSMB.

Octane

In defence of the New Super Mario Bros. games (ignoring New Super Luigi U, as it was nothing more than glorified DLC), all four games have been released on different platforms. Sure, it may look like rehash to some, but it gave everyone an opportunity to play a basic 2D Mario game, regardless of what Nintendo platform they were on.

I personally don't want to see another Wii U Mario platformer until it has a new core gameplay mechanic. Because they decided to release what should've been like a decade's worth of retro Mario platformers in the span of 2 years. if that's not until 2017, so be it.

But yeah, it's likely gonna be 2016 if I had to guess.

The Mario team should work on a mario64/Banjo style platformer with these guys.

OK, I'm not going to lie, but I agree with you. I'm a huge Mario fan, don't get me wrong, but NSMB is just... stale. I love some of your ideas (the Bowser one would be a Day One buy).

The 3D series is amazing, but NSMB is... mediocre.

You know, I do agree that the 2D Mario stuff is getting a bit heavy-handed. I LOVED NSMBU, but probably only because I was away from Nintendo consoles for 5ish years and didn't play the other NSMB titles. On top of that, the last "adventure" 3D Mario I played was Sunshine, and that was on my brother's Gamecube, and I never actually beat it.

Yea, that's right. I never played the Galaxy games. And I keep hearing awesome stuff, so I really wouldn't mind at least a re-release, and a Galaxy 3 would be fine with people who fit my description (and believe me, lots of people bailed during the Wii era). I bet Nintendo is quite aware of that, so I wouldn't be surprised to see that it is Galaxy 3.
