Can anyone tell me what happened to the Wii U Summer System Update? I've heard nothing about it since may or so. But I do saw in the System Settings on my Wii U that SpotPass would be added in a new update. Does anyone have more info?
Nothing has been announced regarding the summer system update yet, though I imagine we'll hear about it some time in the next few weeks. Wii U does currently utilise SpotPass, but from what I understand it only works while the system is powered on, so maybe that'll change in a future update.
I'm hoping for Nintendo Network and Club Ninteno accounts merged, or at least tied, w/ a Mii attached so you don't have to transfer your Mii from system to system, and hopefully a software update that allows users to transfer Wii VC games to Wii U free of charge, free of Wii Menu, etc etc...
Essentially, I'm just hoping a Summer System Update is Nintendo catching up w/ the times.
It ain't easy being cheesy...

I think it will be phenomenal. This update will probably combat most of the complaints many have had for the past 8 months, including, but not limited to:
Faster in-game load times
I'm thinking better accounts, more headset/headphone options, 3DS connectivity, media, more friend/communication options etc. possible updates could happen by the end of the year.
It'll probably be after Pikmin 3 comes out. Who knows, though...
A Nintendo Direct will probably happen before Pikmin 3, which will show off more games, more about Pikmin 3, and the update.
If Japan gets Pikmin 3 before the update, I think it would be pretty reasonable for us to get Pikmin 3 before the update as well.
It's pretty up in the air right now...
