Since the last one got deleted for some odd reason, I thought I'd make a new one. It was confirmed by Reggie at E3 2012 that Retro was working ... Rumors have also suggested that they're working on something "everyone wants us to do," though it was an old rumor, before the Wii U was official, so take that with a grain of salt.

What do you guys think it will be, and why do you think so? And just how excited would you be?

Metroid for Wii U and DKC for 3DS. The DKC for 3DS has already been revealed, though. Sadly it's just a port.

I hope its a new IP! I would love to see the people of Retro original ideas come into a new Wii U Game.

Project Hammer Revival
Diddy Kong Racing U
From what I see, the whole point of Retro studios (At this moment) is to revive and develop old Nintendo franchises that don't have a sole primary studio.
There have been rumours that a Diddy Kong Racing title is in the works. Considering Retro has experience with Mario Kart 7 (Which some have compared well to Diddy Kong Racing) its not impossible.
Nintendo Software Technologies, cancelled the Project H.A.M.M.E.R. title for no confirmed reason. However it may now to revived by Retro. Also, Retro is hiring people who have had knowledge in adventure games, similar to HAMMER (Including people from Vigil games, and Naughty Dog.

It could be a new Starfox, F-Zero or perhaps a completely new adventure/spinoff title. I guess its best to wait til E3.

My bet is still on a Mach Rider reboot. I think Retro is going to go with something unexpected.

I honestly would be surprised if Retro was working on that DKCR port. I think Nintendo usually has other studios handle ports, right? Why would Retro divert its resources to work on a port of a game they made fairly recently?

Personally, I hope Retro learns from its experience with Mario Kart 7 and make the next F-Zero game. Now that would be something.

Plot Twist
At E3 it unveiled that Nintendo bought back Banjo-Kazooie from Microsoft and a true 3rd installment is unveiled to be developed by Retro. Croud faints from epicness, several die from epicness, Nintendo forever banned from E3.

In all seriousness however, I'm at a total loss on what it could be... XD

I don't see why Nintendo would have any interest in Banjo-Kazooie. They could just make a 3D Donkey Kong game.

I'm pretty hopeful that it's F-Zero or Starfox, but also have reasoning why they would. Those are a couple of Nintendo's big titles, and have just been absent for too long.
DK, Metroid, and Mario Kart come up most when speculation about this happens, but I highly doubt it.

We can basically confirm it will either be Metroid, Star Fox or F-Zero...maybe DKCR2. There is no real doubt about this. The only other example anyone in reality has asked for is Zelda, which we know is being done by the usual Zelda team.

I honestly want to see them tackle F-Zero. I mean I adore the Prime games, mainly 1, but I think another team should be given a chance and Hideki Kamiya (I believe) has said he wants to make a Star Fox game so give that to him.

Of course since Retro does a phenomenal job every time, I genuinely hope we see a lot of new projects from them in the next few years.

I wouldn't say Metroid, because Retro Studios was working on that series for around 7-8 years non stop. I feel like DKCR, and Mario Kart were mainly 'in between' jobs to Retro since they didn't have anything else to work on of priority. They did a good job on everything they've done no doubt, but I think it would basically be an over use of those franchises when they have perfectly 'rested' ones right there like F-Zero or Starfox.

n a recent interview with GamesTM, Shigeru Miyamoto seemed to express interest in having a new Star Fox game made. If he's really interested, it looks like there's one acclaimed developer ready for the task.

Platinum Games' Hideki Kamiya, director of the critically acclaimed Bayonetta and Okami, had quite a bit to say on this matter at his Twitter when a follower pointed out the interview to him yesterday.

First, he Tweeted: "If they had the team that made Star Fox 64 make it..."

He then followed with: "I want Nintendo's staff to come to Platinum, stick guns at us and tell us 'You guys make a new Star Fox.'"

He went on to offer great praise for Star Fox 64, particular for its scenario and the heated battles.

It looks like Kamiya already got midway through development of his own little Star Fox. As a submission for entering Capcom, he offered two ideas. One involved wolves and ended up being the basis for Okami. The other was a 3D shooting game. However, he was so satisfied with Star Fox 64 that he thought there'd be no need to make a 3D shooter.

I really, really hope it's a new Star Fox. Retro could definitely get that series back on the right path. Second choice is an F-Zero revival.
