For Nintendo to come with a huge advertising push. As much as we've bashed them before, the truth is they had nothing TO advertise for most of this year. You can't advertise a system with only a couple unique, noteworthy game. You need a system with enough titles to cater to everyone, and you especially need a few "anchor games" that you expect the majority of your fanbase to be interested in, Nintendo's being Mario 7 Zelda.
Well, the stars are all aligning. We now have a reduced price at a time where the games are flowing. Through the end of 2013, there will essentially be 16 "unique, experiences" on the Wii U. I'm excluding 3rd party titles like Batman & AC because they're multiplat. I'm including Ray?am because it was designed from the ground up for the Wii U, is Nintendo fanbase's "type of game", and it is said to really utilize the Gamepad to be better than the other versions.
But let's picture, Mario's voice saying "Nintendo Wii U1" and then boom, we see footage of:
1 NsmbU
2 Nintendo Land
3 Zombi U
4 LEGO City
5 Monster Hunter 3U
6 NslU
7 Pikmin 3
8 Rayman Legends
9 Wonderful 101
10 Zelda WWHD
Then "Coming Soon" and you show footage of
11 Sonic Lost World
12 Wii Party U
13 Mario 3d World
14 DKC: Tropical Freeze
15 Mario & Sonic Olympics
16 Wii Fit U
"Only on Wii U" ..Again showcase the anchor games NSMBU U & WWHD as well the upcoming anchor game Mario 3d World, then you end with the 299.99 screen so everyone knows you're the lowest price out there.
That is an excellent advertisement. It will rid anyone's doubts that Wii U "has no games".
I think the onsalught of Wii U advertisements is coming, and I couldn't be happier. I am SO sick of the doom and gloom surrounding the Wii U, and as a lifelong Nintendo fan, will have a constant smile on my face over the next 3-4 years of undeniable Wii U success.
Then you are probably like most consumers, and aren't interested in buying anything just cuz it has the big N's name on it. Which is absolutely fine. And it shows you why they didn't have much to offer a consumer like you when those 16 games were 5. How many did you like then? But now they have enough that they probably have a couple games to satisfy all tastes, as well as a couple more on the way.
Well, that's a valid argument for a lot of reasons, but the point of this particular post was that they didn't have anything to advertise a year ago. Actually, it wasn't even out yet, lol. I know what you mean, though. However, it had a bunch of ports most people had and the "Launch Big 3", which was NSMBU, NLand & ZombiU. A 2d sidescroller, minigame collection & a niche survival horror game simply isn't enough to entice people.
They now have the games to entice a lot of people. That's the difference between now and a year ago.
And what if I was only interested in only 2 of those 16 games?
Then you are very selective.
Considering how many great games have been hitting the 3DS this year, I'm not going to be buying very many console games on the Wii U at their higher price point if I don't feel they're very impressive. Upcoming for this year, 3D World and The Wonderful 101 are the titles I'm interested in enough to make a purchase at this moment, but only 3D World has priority.
