So... I dunno, I'm not sure we can exactly get quite as hyped for new Miyamoto IP. That Giant Robots demo was just like: What...is...this....ok..they're slowly falling over..oh and the pelvic part just blew up...that japanese employee is looking very uncomfortable doing all this......is this really a game?
To me, it's basically sumo wrestling with robots and an early concept presentation. I think these (also counting the surveillance camera project) are very new concepts aimed at marketing the GamePad and not any major new IP. These games are not fleshed out as IPs yet, basically since they are anonymous with no main character. I doubt that this is the IP that has been in development for years

Anyone else have thoughts? Lol
My thoughts mirror the ones you expressed.
The potential of this title remains to be seen, certainly it was an early and curious reveal.
The whole thing baffled me. I can only assume Nintendo are so desperate to justify the Gamepad they're resorting to showing early ideas that are being knocked around the office. Being honest, it looked dreadful.
Pikmin 3 is a Mitamoto masterpiece. But I'm not sure how anyone sees themselves putting hours and coming back to these games even in a minigames collection.

Well I'm a big tower defense fan. I've sunk many many hours into Plants Vs. Zombies and Pokemon Tower Defense, and even simple games like Bloons TD can offer my a couple of hours of fun.
A Miyamoto developed 3D Tower Defense game is actually quite intriguing.

Yeah, I thought both projects deserved about 1-2 minutes a piece as they were barely well anything... Instead we got to sit and watch how shallow and awkward the concepts were for several minutes. I really only sat through the whole thing because I kept hoping just maybe they would show us a taste of Starfox... and yet of course Nintendo always has to find a way to simultaneously get me excited and bum me out. No Starfox. Hell, just show us concept art, and maybe a couple short videos of Miyamoto playing the thing. I don't need much. I got really stoked when they showed ONE giant hand-drawn concept piece for Grim Fandango.
Sorry to be THE pessimist, but more mini games is really the last thing I wanted to come out of Nintendo's claim to really invest in the gamepad. Give us some real content Miyamoto!
We have to keep in mind that these concepts are still very early. Who knows how they'll end up later on down the road.
And even Miyamoto said that he's playing around with several ideas for Wii U, but decided that Project Giant Robot and Project Guard would be the first early taste he'd give to the people of the many ideas he's toying around with right now.
Yeah it was shown too early but I'd love to see it devolped as a Kaiju/Mecha game where you fight monsters and destroy cities.
This and Gundam was what was going through my mind. Though what this REALLY reminds me of is R.A.D. which was very slow and clunky but AWESOME. I think, once this game has progressed, this game could be something similar. The only thing that bummed me was that the parts you change with the robot looked really lame. Imagine if it were like Armored Core or Front Mission with some in depth customization. I am slightly optimistic this will be a fun title... it's just really too early.
I was thinking earlier, what if he combined the two games? Play as a giant robot and defend a tower by fighting those other robots, but you can't just rush in... you have to be tactical as well and sneak past cameras! I don't know, haha. Fun to think about though. I'm sure Miyamoto will deliver.
This was kind of embarrassing. I expect better from Miyamoto. It just feels like he's reaching in any which way he can to use the Gamepad and this and tower defense are the results. Tower Defense looks borderline OKAY. Project Robots looked like the most ill-conceived and quite possibly the most frustrating game I've ever seen. I don't want to stand while playing games unless they're high energy action.. not slow moving awkward leaning. The more I think of this game the more critical I become of it despite knowing it's early in development. I honestly don't think it will change too much, but I really hope I'm wrong. Right now, I wouldn't pay $5 for it.
I've always wanted Nintendo to make a giant robot game, but not quite like that...
Like as said earlier it's very awkward and just looks like they're falling over. A poor presentation, maybe that's all it is, and if this is meant to be a full game then it definitely needs some work. However I'm guessing this is an early concept that just isn't fully-realized yet. Maybe it'll turn out to be something really good... ya never know.
No comment on Guard, I stopped paying attention at that point.
These are very early tests of ideas, based on a primary focus they announced to investors in January this year. To create new good concepts (even if they are built upon old ones), failing a lot on the road is part of the journey. Perhaps they wanted to get some player reactions of on the floor before they proceed?
I agree with others that think it's very early conceptually and Nintendo were desperate to show of gamepad-centric software. There is potential for Project Robot imo if done right.
Project Guard didn't interest me on paper. After the demo, I could see myself enjoying that game. LOL'd whenever one of the robot's would get spotted, throw it's arms in the air and run off.

I can see this all being done on purpose by Nintendo. As in giving Miyamoto these smaller projects. To convince people we don't need Miyamoto for Nintendo to make great games. That young developers can create something new and exciting like Splatoon, which to me looks very interesting.
