I held a little Wii U demo event of my own last week, and I realized that while the gaming industry is hounding Nintendo for not doing more online gaming, their focus on the local multiplayer experience is actually still relevant.
I had complete strangers laughing and beating several levels in SM3DW together for the first time, and I recognize that some people say their friends live far away, but after watching complete strangers enjoy themselves, I think people need to just make some local friends!
Hell, even though DKC:TF was basically too hard for anyone, they were frustrated together, and it was a lot of fun watching people crowd around watching other people die in levels and laugh together with them. It made me glad to see that people could enjoy local multiplayer, and I, for one, am glad that Nintendo still focuses on this core concept!
I rather play with IRL people any days but local friends is a lot harder than you think. Sure I can make a lot of friends at university but they got kids and priority. Only way to invited them over if we have an project to work on and even with project going on we tend to do it online or on Google Doc.
So far, I got my best friend who is neighbour to come over once a while. Even he admitted that too many people moved away and no one in local have similar taste as us. I thinking about creating clubs and hopefully that attract people to come.
Put in this way, I have more time playing online with my IRL oversea friends than playing local… So I still want online for Wii U so I can play with those biased IRL Nintendo fanboys.
yup as long humans can walk with their own legs and talk with each other face to face, local multiplayer will exist.
goodbyes are a sad part of life but for every end there's a new beggining so one must never stop looking forward to the next dawn

Local multiplayer should always be a thing simply because I don't want to not be able to play with someone just because I haven't dropped $450 for a system, $60 for the game, and $20 to play online.
I own a PS1, GBA, GBA SP, Wii (GCN), 360, 3DS, PC (Laptop), Wii U, and PS4.
I used to own a GBC, PS2, and DS Lite
I get a group of friends over to play game nights on my Wii U every so often. It's not often enough, for my taste, but what can you do? I don't have a license, and the closest bus stop is much too far away.
This will be very interesting, this month, though, as a friend of mine is coming in from out of town to help celebrate my 21st birthday! We're gonna get drunk and play 3D World, DKCTF, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Dark Souls II, and whatever else catches our eye. What fun~
