Topic: Idea for a new F-Zero Installment

Nintendo has stated that they wouldn't bring a new F-Zero game out until they had something new to bring to the series. This had me thinking and it made me almost instantly think about Captain Falcon, because he seems to be the F-Zero representative. Now what I think they could do with the series will probably bother a lot of people but I think it could work. I think they should make a game based on Captain Falcon and possibly a few other characters from the series. It would still have all the racing and be based on racing, but there could be some action/adventure side of the game as well. For example, between new racing zones you'd have to fight/puzzle your way through to the next areas, yada yada. I don't think it should be 3rd person adventure, though. I think it should be a 2D side-scrolling levels akin to Viewtiful Joe or even Super Smash Bros, with a deep combo system. Obviously this is just an idea of what they could do with the series and I'm sure some would hate it, but.. apparently they think they have to have something new for F-Zero. This isn't my personal opinion as I'd love one as it is now, but for some reason they don't think that's good enough.

Just keep in mind if they did something like this it would still have tons of racing tracks and characters to choose from for racing. The 2D Side-Scroll parts would be seldom in comparison, maybe making it 1/5 of the actual game. I think it would be pretty cool to actually explore some of the planets that we see in these games without being on a race track.. 2D might not be the best for that, but they could have really deep backgrounds like DK:TF. Just an idea. This is just for a story-mode. I think multiplayer should be left specifically for racing. Same with other modes in the game. I don't know how you'd choose different characters for story-mode racing, you just meet new characters along the way and recruit them to your cause, whatever that may be. What do you guys think of this?

I dunno. People don't buy a racing game to do much else than race. I mean, look at Super Smash Bros. It's a fighter+platformer only because the fighting aspect had platforming elements to begin with. They went on an extended an existing element.

So, I'd say they need to extend the elements that exist in F-Zero. Take multiplayer, for example. what can they extend from that? Simple. Online multiplayer. Also take into account that with F-Zero GX, you could make a custom car, so imagine if they improved on that for making even more combinations, and allowing you to use them in online matches. Speaking of GX, there is also the story mode, where you had objectives to complete in order to advance to the next part of the story. They could create a separate mode, and call it Challenge Mode, and have it ala Rayman Legends style, where every day/week, a new challenge pops up where you have to complete the objectives and compete with others online for things like best time in either full-on-racing (no AI), collect-a-thon, and perhaps even finishing with time and vehicle energy (since boosts do drain your energy meter, so obviously best time and full energy bar would grant a person 1st place). F-Zero 64 showed us that they could have a random-track generator, though they could improve from the simpleness of that version), so it wouldn't be too far off. Now, speaking of generators, why not make a track editor, like the one that was planned for the DD64 version? This would also require online so others can try out the tracks, and there would be categories like "New tracks", "Favorites" (which won't be limited to individual tracks, but even by user NNID so you can see their entire collection), "Sort by rating" (both track and user NNID), etc. Both editors (track and car customization) could make great use of the Gamepad.

You notice that most of these involve online in one form or another, and that is something the last F-Zero game did not have any online. Nintendo wants something new to throw into F-Zero? Well, online is wide open.

then it's simple, free roaming story mode, kinda like Kirby Air Ride on city trial or even GTA to a certain extent.

@Discostew I love your ideas and I agree whole-heartedly. Daily challenges for online would be amazing, especially with new tracks every day. Same with people creating their own tracks and sharing them online. I think F-Zero online would bring a whole world of options, but Nintendo is really resisting the online embrace. I'm not sure why..

When I had my idea, it was originally thought to be like a Captain Falcon stand-alone title, but then I figured there would be racing and why not just make it a F-Zero game with some action/adventure thrown in, since they act like F-Zero has to have some sort of revelation in order to come out with a new game. I'm not a big fan of Capt. Falcon or anything, but I just think they could do something with him. They already have a skill set for him and I think people might embrace a game where you play him as the main protagonist. I just want a new F-Zero game and I'm throwing ideas out there, I like hearing other ideas too and yours are great and much more fitting to the series as it stands.

Hmm… About 5 players local match, online multiplayer with at least over 8 players, use an gamepad or TV to watch an "live" event of your neighbour playing single player game including other cars (maybe you can be announcer this way since F-Zero GX is about announcing and interview XD ), maybe interview an winner of online tournament, local multiplayer, and even single player assuming you are an announcer. I agreed with @Discostew say about online, random-generated tracks, customize on the vehicle, and I want to add in track editor.

Edit: I agreed with @GuSilverFlame for free-roam racing but I'm not quite sure how that work for F-Zero though.

Umm… Care to have some gravy?

They should just make it like GTA, but in the distant future on an alien planet with F-Zero cars. Imagine trying to steal the Blue Falcon as it zips past at 1000km/h.

(This is totally not a serious idea.)

@sevex I have no idea why but its remind me of Kirby Air Ride. I stole my friend legendary ship (I have no idea why he got off) and I have so much boost that I ran into other player and KO them. A second later I realize that I went from one end to other end of the map. XD

I agree with the first idea. Captain Falcon and his Falcon Punch have so UTTERLY overshadowed the racing series that it would be the best way to get people's attention for the series again.

That's kind of what I had in mind. I mean, F-Zero is obviously an awesome game in itself, but I think they may need just a little something more to get peoples attention.. and that could well be more focus on a character like Captain Falcon and his famous Falcon PUNCH.. He'd be perfect to for 2D Side-Scrolling beat 'em up, too. I just think this could be the thing the F-Zero series needs. That and online racing, of course.

I just want an online, HD, 60fps, straight up F-Zero game. I think the fact that it's a high-speed, futuristic racing game with hover vehicles without weapons is enough to differentiate it from Mario Kart.
