So about this time two years ago Nintendo reeling over how they were unprepared for the realties of HD development announced that the were going to start working with Various third party companies leveraging the IP of both to help the Wii U. The first of these title announced was Shin Megami Tensi X Fire Emblem and funnily enough the one we have heard the least about. The games that I can remember so far that took from this initive.

The aforementioned cross over game between Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensi.

The Sega three that encompassed Sonic and Mario, Sonic Lost World, and the infamous Sonic Boom. Sonic Lost World was noteworthy for having two free DLC levels that were based around Legend of Zelda and Yoshi.

We've seen two games made with Tecmo Koei. The biggest one was Hyrule Warriors which took the patented Zelda world and put it with Lu-boo voodoo. Than we got some horror goodness in the form of Fatal Frame that hasn't made it over too America or Europe yet.

You have the Platinum Games Duology of The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2.

Nintendo decided to fund Devil's Third from Vahalla

The biggest collaboration has to be with Nacmo Bandai games. They've worked on Wii Sports Club and Super Smash Brothers among other things. They have the first two third party games that utilize Amiibo as well. From a game perspective they have three games currently announced for the system the Takio drum series, the nwly announced free to play game Project Treasure, and Pokken Tournament.

I have to say so far the collaborations have been successful, next I'd try to get the Fire Emblem game out and further work with Namco. Get a new Baiten Kaitos or tales series. I'd than try to get more partnerships with western third parties and jp guys like Capcom.

We need more diversity. Jumping from Bayonetta 2 to Smash Wii U is insanely fun.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

When I get a Wii U, I'm definitely interested in Wonderful 101 and Bayo 2. Maybe I'll like Pokken Tournament too. Can't say the same for Hyrule Warriors, Sonic, or Devil's Third though.

Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F

Yes, in the form of TW101 and Hyrule Warriors. I found Sonic Lost World kind of 'meh', but I've never really been into Sonic. Not really interested in FE x SMT. Fatal Frame looks interesting, as does Project Treasure. I'm looking forward to Devil's Third, for sure.
I left Bayo out because I've yet to get it, not for a lack of interest, more a lack of funds.
Curious as to what other collaborations are in the works.

Hyrule Warriors is fantastic fun, and I'm sure that SMT x FE will be well worth the wait. (just gives me more time to enjoy the other games, like Smash!)

I'm also very intrigued by Project Treasure and hyped for Pokken Tournament.

I would say yes, but since collaboration games are based on Nintendo franchises (Hyrule Warriors, Puzzle & Dragon SMBE) or have DLC based on them (Bayonetta 2, Sonic LW) in order for them to simply get recognition from the Nintendo audience.

If Devil's Third and Project Treasure launch without them, then they will be collaboration efforts without the need to pander to an audience.

Um, let's see

2 games on my favorite games of 2014 list
arguably the best part of a recent Sonic game
the Ninja Gaiden creator still gets to make games

Yeah, I'd say this might've worked out well.

Yeah, I hate it when other people like the games I like. Ruins my enjoyment.

I hate it when Bayonetta 2 gets to exist.

That being said, it is kinda pathetic that there is a possibility that people went from meh to BUYIT because Bayonetta 2 went from the sequel to one of the most highly acclaimed action games to the sequel to one of the most highly acclaimed action games WITH A LINK COSTUME!1!!!!!1!1

...also your post disappeared so you turned me into a double poster. You jerk.

When you (and wherever that other poster went to) manage to actually get the point, I'll be here to counter. Until then...

Your point as I understood it was silly, which is why I singled it out (then deleted because I figured it was needlessly confrontational, but it's been quoted in infamy, so I'll live with it).

Bayonetta 2 is no less of a game for having a Link costume. Nintendo added it because people would like it. Namco adds cameo/guest characters to almost every collaboration they do (including Smash! Pandering to Pac-Man fans!), and Koei Tecmo includes Ayane as a playable character in like 90% of their games. Big deal. Fans get a kick out of it, but woe, at the cost of your sour grapes.

As for stuff like Hyrule Warriors, maybe I'll address that after we have a lengthy debate about the 10 or 20 other Warriors crossovers that came before it.

And if your point is anything other than "these things happened, so my enjoyment is lessened," then it's entirely irrelevant to the topic, so I guess there's no real point in addressing it here anyway.

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

Should i explain my point? Because it doesn't seem you've grasped it when you mentioned Super Smash Bros. & "enjoyment."

When the OP mentioned "successful" in relation to collaboration projects that came to mind. Its not relevant to the title, its linked to the OP. Edit: Nah, its relevant.

You missed my last sentence. I'm operating under the premise that you're actually posting on topic. I know what your point is, but it's not relevant to the topic, so I'm willfully ignoring it.

I'm aware that Nintendo has in some way contributed their own IP to every project in which they've published, co-developed, or both, and they have done this to broaden the appeal of the games to their own built-in fanbase. Every Japanese publisher does this. It's a culture thing. Japan loves mascots and costumes and that sort of thing. It's really a non-issue that someone outside of the intended audience finds it deplorable.

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

TingLz wrote:

I'm implying that their success (if there is any) is linked to their inability to let the majority of these collaboration projects stand on their own two feet.

Bolded: Which is what exactly? The last sentence? No, Devil's Third and Project Treasure hasn't launched yet so that throws that out the window.
Every Japanese publisher? No.

Hyrule Warriors exceeded expectations, very nicely done and the fact that my 11-year-old daughter likes it is the icing on the cake. Smash has turned out pretty well, my kid likes it better than me (surprise) and I really enjoy playing tour and classic mode with her. I'm up for anything Fire Emblem so I hope that title hasn't been canned as rumour suggests. Looking forward to seeing more about Devil's Third; hoping it will be more interesting than the numerous Call of Duty and sons out there.
