World Wide Wii U sales For Black Friday Week: 274,179
Yup thats 274,179 Wii U units that are now out in the wild and bringing joy to people. Not bad all things considered and certanly a number to be happy about!
The 3DS sold 1,292,585 units world wide (This is Normal + XL combined).

Remember NA is the only region that has Black Friday, other regions will see a bigger Holiday boost later. PS4 launched this week in the EU. And all data besides data from JP is from VGC.

If these are considered good sales, then Wii U really is doomed.
For one week it's not bad considering there were hardly any discounts for it. Due to this I think it may still have some momentum leading to Christmas day.

Not bad??? That's not even as good as last year. Last year they sold over 400,000 Wii U units.
Ya, that was Wii U launch. If Wii U sold this much for 5 years straight, the install base would be around 80,000,000. Not saying that's gonna happen, but it's a good sales number a year after it launched and new consoles just came out.
Even if Wii U sold an average of 200,000 a week, Nintendo would be doing pretty well. They sold an average of 500,000 every 3 months after initial launch sales. Half of 3 months worth of sales in the past year, in a week, isn't bad.
If these are considered good sales, then Wii U really is doomed.

When comparing Wii U to 3DS sales it gets a bit depressing.
Edit: And the fact the Wii is still almost beating Wii U in sales when there aren't games being released for it.

And there goes all his credibility. I thought maybe Nintendo made a press release somewhere, but I guess we're still waiting on that, probably in an end of the year statement or something...oh well. Nothing to see here.
And yet nobody points out that it outsold the PS4 in America. Everyone is too focused on the Wii U being DOOOMED I guess.
I think thats down to availability of the PS4 more than anything.
Sales of PS4 from this report are almost double that from the previous week. I don't think it is availability.
In the UK most stores are sold out and are waiting to be restocked (not sure about rest of Europe), in terms of US a lot of consoles had to be allocated to the Europe launch, you're free to disagree but I'm pretty sure this is more to do with availability than anything else.
So- this is how I ended up getting a Wii U. My GF's baby daddy said last Christmas that he was getting him a new Wii. I figured he was certainly going to get the new Wii, meaning a Wii U. He goes to visit his dad and comes home with a Wii. I was like WTF? So I looked at it, looked at it, looked at it, and in mid April took the plunge and got one for myself. Not to be a snob or anything, but the CNET folks got it all wrong when they said the Wii U would be the worst Christmas gift ever..... That would be the Wii.
FWIW, Mario 3d world was sold out at Walmart today- and I saw some soccer moms looking at the Wii U. I should have pitched them on it but I was kind of in a hurry.

I gotta say it does amaze me how many people are still buying a Wii after they've been on release for so long.
Maybe Nintendo need to start emphasising in their advertising that you can play Wii games on the Wii U to stop people buying the older console.

I once corrected a woman who was about to buy a COD Black Ops 2 season pass instead of the actual game at Christmas time I could only imagine who she was buying it for face at Christmas opening the thing.
Just a few thoughts- both my neighbors kids have Wii's. I guess it has enough games- and if you are 4-10 the graphics will be good enough. If you are a parent on a budget, $99 for a Wii mini or $129 for a Wii isn't a bad deal. Funny thing is that my GF has a Wii and then I gave her my old Wii, so we have one upstairs and downstairs mainly for Netflix, so it has that going for it. That said, I think the notion that current Wii owners won't upgrade is pretty ridiculous. I think there's plenty of room for growth- and you have to factor in that there's 40m 3ds owners who are semi-Nintendo fans, if not outright.
