So since club nintendo has its special years, it states that your rank or progress resets at the end, and you can go from platinum to nothing. Now when this happens do you lose your coins? Or just your special rank?

You have to earn your rank each year, but your coins do not expire until two complete Club Nintendo years have elapsed. A Club Nintendo year is from July 1-June 30. So, if your earn coins now, they will not expire until June 30, 2016.

You lose the coins and the special rank. That's why people save their Coins until Nintendo announces amazing stuff for Club Nintendo.

To clarify, you lose the progress towards a special rank, but you do not lose the coins themselves.

If you go to your account, there's a section that tells you how many of your coins will expire iat the end of the current Club Nintendo year.

Help me understand how the Gold/Platinum status works; according to this page (http://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2087/session/L2F2LzEvdGltZS8xNDAxNzE5MTM1L3NpZC8qSlJvYVBWbA%3D%3D), you need to attain the status by June 30th, then they announce the rewards in July? So if I'm 60 coins away from platinum, I'll probably want to reach that status by the end of this month?

Originally I thought the status affected the rewards available throughout the year, and this late in the cycle (ending after June) I shouldn't add any more coins to my account. But it seems that I want to reach platinum before the end of the month.

The rewards available throughout the year are the same for everyone, so attaining Gold or Platinum rank means nothing until the end of the year, June 30th.

Special rewards are announced in July for people who attained Gold or Platinum status. They get to pick one reward out of those offered for free.

Crossing my fingers the reward is Double Dash on June 9tj.

so i am 90 coins away from Platinum, with 160 coins waiting in survey's ...

but I am thinking to stick to Gold, and use the 160 to get me halfway to gold for 2015...

reason is : looking at the list of gifts last year, and I have only one gift I am interested in - digital download games for Wii U
Now it seems for 2013, you only get one gift - even if you are platinum (its just a wider choice, not an extra gift) - and being gold/platinum would not have made a difference for my choice last year (smash bros' VC for Wii)

Can anyone confirm I'm correct that its just more choice, not more gifts, if you get platinum ?

I have to do a survey for 60 coins by 3rd July. So cutting it fine (don't want it to expire) but I assume the 'reset' really happens on the 1st July ... ?

Yeah, if you just want to download a game, there's no point getting platinum, as it just gives you 1 or 2 extra options for a physical reward . . . assuming this year is similar to recent years.

It is unlikely, but we could get another figurine/stand...

I make sure to get Platinum every year, as I prefer to have all options available. This year that ends next week, I got double the coins for Platinum since I downloaded a ton of games for both Wii U and 3DS. So on July 1st I will just register a few physical games and get the rest via eShop games.

I still hate that I missed out on that.
The one year I did not make Platinum I missed out on the Mario Statue.
Every year since then hasn't really topped that, I was even for sure they were going to give out a Luigi hat for Last year.
